國際化學奧林匹亞競賽
林穎璇再奪金
今年高中部畢業的林穎璇同學,繼94年摘下國際物理奧林匹亞競賽金牌後,95年再拿下國際化學奧林匹亞競賽金牌,不但替個人的科學歷程增添一份傲人的資歷,也替國立科學工業園區實驗高級中學的歷史再寫下一燦爛的扉頁。實驗中學創校至今,雖然高中年段班級規模小,但已共拿下19面亞太及國際奧匹的獎牌,堪稱小而美,小而強的最佳註腳。林穎璇同學再次摘金,消息傳來,雙語部及高中部師生皆以他為榮,目前林穎璇同學赴美到麻省理工學院(MIT)繼續深造,預祝林同學在學術領域中更上層樓,繼續為國爭光。
全國科展
高中部管晧、吳張祺、林昱劭獲佳績
第四十六屆中小學科學展覽會頒獎典禮於7月
28日星期五在嘉義大學舉行。本校高三4班管晧同學以「少年廷得耳的煩惱……真溶液的廷得耳效應」榮獲化學科第一名(施建輝、楊景泰老師指導);高三4班吳張祺、林昱劭以「四邊形上的『等角分點』」榮獲數學科最佳教材獎(莊添丁、李文靖老師指導)。同學及老師們全力以赴而獲此全國性殊榮,實中師生在此致賀。
2006思源科技創意大賽
高中部獲一金一銀雙銅
2006年思源科技創意大賽決賽於8月27日在台中逢甲大學舉行,本校高中部同學勇奪一金一銀雙銅。其中,數學專題競賽項目共30隊競技,實中「和棋聖王」隊榮獲銀牌獎;科學統合競賽項目共85隊角逐,實中「大師隊」勇奪金牌獎,「你敢說我不對」與「隊名記得要寫對」兩隊並獲銅牌獎。師生們在溽暑中犧牲假期揮汗集訓與競賽,如今獲此佳績,特此恭賀!(獲獎師生英雄榜請見第16頁榮譽榜)
TRML數學競賽 高中及雙語部同學聯隊喜獲北區銅牌獎
第八屆TRML高中數學競賽,於8月19、20日在台北、台中與高雄同步舉行,除了考驗學生的數學能力,也考驗隊友間的團隊與創意。一個團隊共十五個隊友,除了展現個人數學能力,每一位隊友輪番上陣,每一個人的答案都可能成為下一位隊友的題目,因此大意不得,學生們也戰戰兢兢細心完成答題。本校由高中部與雙語部數學精英們所組成的實中隊,喜獲北區銅牌獎(獲獎師生英雄榜請見第16頁榮譽榜)。
國小部榮獲新竹市科展團體組亞軍
新竹市第二十四屆國民中小學科學展覽,於95年6月2日於大庄國小舉行。今年計有國中、國小組共一百五十八件作品參賽,本校國小部榮獲團體獎甲組第二名(劉如佳、洪素惠老師指導)。科展之目的在激發學生探究科學興趣,並提昇科學研究風氣。實中國小部學生歷年參加科展均表現優異,今年再獲團體獎亞軍,充分展現科學教育之優良成果。

教師獎
新竹市第四屆SUPER教師獎於6月24日公開頒獎,本校國小部黃桂芳老師光榮獲選為國小組SUPER教師,師生均與有榮焉。SUPER教師獎之宗旨在鼓勵並肯定具有創造力、影響力、生命力的SUPER教師,黃老師教學專注認真、抱持理想,獲此殊榮,實至名歸,特此恭賀!
第二屆「萬聖節聯合國兒童基金會募款」活動
21日舉辦「化妝園遊嘉年華」
第二屆「萬聖節聯合國兒童基金會募款」活動,於10月2日假實中大禮堂舉行開幕典禮,活動在溫馨熱烈的氣氛中揭開序幕。
聯合國兒童基金會的宗旨在關懷並援助飢貧國家兒童的生存、照護、健康、發展與教育。去年實中舉辦了第一屆「萬聖節聯合國兒童基金會募款」活動,除了義賣募集$91,256元捐給聯合國兒童基金會,為世界兒童福利盡一份心力之外,學生們更學到人飢己飢、人溺己溺的關懷;萬聖節不再只記得打扮自己到處要糖,而能化私心為大愛,服務助人,藉由共同的合作與努力,讓全世界的孩子都能有一個更溫馨美好的明天。
今年第二屆的活動,獲林政則市長的大力支持,以及新竹市龍山國小、科園國小、光武國中、新竹荷蘭國際學校與台中美國學校師生的熱烈參與,在十月份前三週展開一系列的關懷教育與募款義賣之後,活動的最高潮「萬聖節化妝園遊嘉年華」將在21日(星期六)於實中校園舉行,歡迎師生家長及社區居民們共襄盛舉。感謝長官的支持與眾多學校師生的熱烈參與,更預祝活動圓滿成功。
第二屆新竹市全英語「模擬聯合國」討論會
21、 22日開鑼
實中主辦的第二屆新竹市全英語「模擬聯合國」討論會將在10月21、22日舉行。除實中師生之外,本次與會的還有新竹女中、曙光女中、建功高中以及遠自南台灣來盛情參與的台南一中。「模擬聯合國」討論會的宗旨在增進學員對聯合國之了解,培養參與學員對世界性議題的關懷,進而經由外交與合作來達成世界和平的宗旨。為確實模擬「聯合國」之議程,所有活動均以英語進行,學員扮演各國代表、聯合國官員以及各委員會主席等角色,就某一特定議題進行闡明立場、辯論、遊說、談判以至起草文件、最後通過決議等程序,以親身體驗在真實世界中主導全世界各國和平共存、合作共榮之聯合國的運作方式,提升政治、外交素養與國際宏觀。預祝本屆「模擬聯合國」討論會圓滿成功。

ANOTHER GOLD MEDAL
AT 2006 CHEMISTRY
OLYMPIAD
Ying-Hsuan Lin, graduate
of 2006 who won a gold medal at the 2005 Physics Olympiad,
brought home another gold at the 2006 Chemistry Olympiad. Such
an unprecedented honor not only wrote his scientific resume in
gold, but also painted a glorious page in NEHS history. Since
its establishment, NEHS has won a total of 19 medals at the
Asian Pacific and International Olympiad. With only a small
number of classes in the High School Department, NEHS has
demonstrated incomparable potential. Ying-Hsuan Lin is currently
furthering his study in the US at MIT. We wish him the best in
pursuing a higher honor in the scholastic arena.

STUDENTS WON GREAT HONORS AT NATIONAL SCINECE FAIR
The awarding ceremony of the 46th
National Science Fair for all high school and elementary
students nationwide took place on July 28, at Chia Yi
University. NEHS Senior High Department students won several
honors. Guan Hao placed 1st in the Chemistry
competition, and Wu Chang-chi and Lin Yu-shao won the award of
“Best Teaching Material” for Mathematics. Thanks to the hard
work of the students and their guiding teachers Mr. Shih, Mr.
Yang, Mr. Chuang and Mr. Lee. Together, they have made us proud.
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WON GOLD, SILVER AND
BRONZE MEDALS IN CREATIVITY COMPETITION
NEHS High School
Department Students brought home one gold, one silver and two
bronze medals on August 27 in the 2006 “National Spring Soft
Comprehensive Creativity Competition”. Among the 30 teams in the
math competition, NEHS placed at an honorable 2nd. In
the science category, with 85 teams competing, NEHS teams won
one gold medal and two bronze medals. These students and their
guiding teachers spent their summer in training and competition,
they deserve a big hand for their great determination and
outstanding achievements (see p. 16 for details).
2006 TRML MATH
COMPETITION NEHS 3RD PLACE
The 2006 TRML math
competition took place on August 19 and 20. This competition
puts to test students’ competency in math, as well as in
teamwork and creativity. On a team of 15 students, each took
turns in the competition, and every one of the students was an
important link in the chain of success. After a tough
competition, NEHS team received the honor of the bronze medal
for the northern region (see p. 16 for details).
ELEMENTARY STUDENTS
WON 2ND PLACE IN HSINCHU CITY SCIENCE FAIR
The 2006 Hsinchu City
Science Fair took place on June 2, at Da Juang Elementary. Among
the 158 science projects entered, NEHS Elementary Department
stood out and brought home the 2nd place in “Team
Award” category . The purpose of the Science Fair was to inspire
and promote scientific investigation and research. Thanks to Ms.
Liu and Ms. Hong for guiding the students through the process.
This recent honor is an addition to the NEHS Elementary
Department students’ long list of glory at the Fair, which fully
demonstrates the outstanding results of the curriculum and
teaching of the Science education at the Elementary Department.

ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT WON HSINCHU SUPER TEACHER AWARD
To recognize and
encourage excellence, creativity and dedication in teaching, the
4th Annual Super Teacher Award of Hsinchu city was
presented in June to several outstanding Hsinchu teachers. Among
the recipients was Ms. Kuei-Fang Huang of the Elementary
Department who won the glory as the Super Teacher of the
elementary category for her continuous dedication and
contribution to education. Congratulations to Ms. Haung!
“TRICK-OR-TREAT FOR
UNICEF 2006” FUNDRAISER HOLDS HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL ON OCTOBER 21
The heart-warming 2nd annual “Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF” Opening
Ceremony took place on October 2, in the Gym of NEHS. UNICEF
(United Nations Children’s Fund) is an organization that
supports child survival, protection, and development worldwide
through education, advocacy, and fundraising. Last October, at
the first “Trick or treat for UNICEF” fundraiser, NEHS raised
$91,256 for UNICEF, and students learned to care, to share, and
to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
This October, thanks to the support of Mayor Lin of Hsinchu
city, and the participation of Lung Shan Elementary, Ke Yuan
Elementary, Guang Wu Junior High,
Hsinchu
International School and the Taichung American School, the
fundraiser has expanded into a much larger scale. The
educational and fundraising activities went on for the first 3
weeks of October. The highlight of the fundraiser, “Halloween
Carnival”, will take place on October 21 at NEHS and all
students, parents and friends from the community are welcome to
join in on this meaningful event. We thank Mayor Lin for his
support, students, teachers and parents from all schools for
their hard work, and we wish the “Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF
2006” fundraiser a magnificent success!
NEHS HOLDS 2ND HIGH
SCHOOL MUN CONFERENCE
ON 21 AND 22
NEHS will hold the 2nd Hsinchu High School Model
United Nations conference on October 21 and 22. Students from
the Bilingual Department, along with students from four high
schools in Hsinchu and Tainan, will participate in this grand
event. The foremost goal of MUN is to increase and enhance
students' understanding of the United Nations. In addition, the
conference also serves to help students better understand the
importance of maintaining world peace and taking part in the
global community. Through all-English role-play, discussions,
persuasive writings and debates, students, posing as delegates
from different countries, work hard at reaching understanding
and consents on various world issues. NEHS is elated to once
again host such a significant event. May the 2nd
Hsinchu City High School MUN be a greater success than last
year!
