Congratulations! NEHS wins the 10th Macronix
Science School Award and Principal Award. Seniors Ji-ru Chen,
Jinglun Lin, and Shou Fu Chen took 1 Silver Medal and 2 Wins.
The 10th Macronix Science Award Ceremony was
held on December 10th. 20 applications were selected out of 618
others from all over Taiwan. Ji-ru Chen, Jinglun Lin, and Shou
Fu Chen from our school used the projects ¡§I want to fly high
and far-Investigate the propagation mechanism of fern spores,¡¨ I
want ¡§Sunlight¡¨ and ¡§Protection¡¨-Investigation of Anthocyanin
position and function along with the preparation of magnetic
sensitive gel to win a Silver Medal and 2 Wins, quite an
impressive feat. This accomplishment has allowed our school to
accumulate enough points to be in the top 3, winning the School
Award and Principal Award. Special thanks to teachers Hui-Qing
Ping and Dao-Ren Hsieh for guiding the students. Macronix
Education Foundation established the Macronix Science Award in
2002, aiming to stimulate high schoolers to take an interest in
the natural sciences and experimental sciences to foster
critical thinking skills, and to develop the spirit of
diversified learning.

graduate Jun Yu Liao attends ¡uU19
National Youth Innovation Contest¡vand
wins the highest honor award.
U19 (Under 19) presented the awards on the
11th of December at Asia University. Under intense competition
with 1388 contestants from all over Taiwan, 6 winning
masterpieces,14 excellent works, and 15 judge-recommended awards
were given. A total of 32 groups and 70 people won awards. With
“The Window of Rescue? Jun Yu Liao won the highest honor award
and 150 thousand NTD. Made out of special glass, “The Window of
Rescue?illustrates how glass shatters once the carbon monoxide
concentration in the room reaches an unsafe level, giving the
room adequate air circulation. The judges of U19 believe that
this invention is highly practical and can be used for business
opportunities.
The High School Department Holds An
"Exploring Nature -- Da Han River " Field Trip.
The High School Department office of academic
affairs decided to go to Loushi County for land culture
education, in order to develope the students' appreciation of
local culture. At the same time, they taught lessons in the form
of "outdoor lessons", allowing the students to have better
observing skills as well as giving them a better learning
experience. On 12/16, they held a "Exploring Nature -- Da Han
River " field trip and invited teachers from high schools in the
Hsinchu area to attend. The main part of the event was to
interview the Pearl Tribe and various aspects of Da Ti. They
also invited Davinci Melon Studio teacher Jian Yi Huang and the
Xi Kou Aborigines tribe cultural and development association
teacher Ying Lan to talk about the tribe's stories and Da Ti Old
Street's rivers, and the city's development. Aside from that,
there were also DIY to make the Tai Ya tribe's food and to
survey the land in groups, allowing the students and the
teachers to return with rewarding experiences.
Warmth in Winter IBSH and Kindergarten
Department Participate in ¡§Shoe Love¡¨ Activity
At the end of the year, as Christmas and cold
weather approaches, IBSH began their “Shoe Love--Warmth to Jian
Shi?Activity. Students from 6A, 6B, and Key Club joined with the
help of passionate parents to bring well wishes and care to the
children of Jian Shi County’s Shi Lei Elementary School. The
Kindergarten Department’s teachers and students also gathered
gifts and gave them to Jian Shi County’s Yi Xin Church and
another Church at Taoyuan’s FuXin mountain. Many thanks to IBSH
and the Kindergarten Department’s students and parents for their
sharing and care, allowing children in Jian Shi and Fu Xin to
have a warm and love-filled winter!
Each Department celebrates thanksgiving
events with vivacity in this Christmas season
The Elementary Department organized a series
of thanksgiving events last month in order to create a
friendlier campus atmosphere and to lead students in learning to
appreciate this holiday. The first event was the ¡§Thanksgiving
singing competition preliminary¡¨ and next was the ¡§Little Sun
Children¡¦s Theater Troupe¡¨ which presented a heartwarming kids¡¦
number called ¡§Loving Who You Are.¡¨ The finale, held on December
23, consisted of a singing competition and the much-anticipated
skit called ¡§Xiangxiang Has Changed!¡¨. The Christmas Concert,
hosted on December 17 by IBSH parents, was also a success with a
genial atmosphere and the highlight was a rocking performance of
¡§Baby¡¨ by the faculty. Santa Claus was also present, throwing
out candies to the audience and ending the concert with
excitement. The High School Department organized a string of
events on December 22 and 23 to welcome the Christmas season.
Besides performances from the orchestra, band, and choir, the
teachers¡¦¡§Lao Ke Ai¡¨ band and lively tap dance performance drew
much applause. Festivities aside, there was a small mystery gift
to cap off each day, spreading the holiday spirit. (See pages
