2015 School Year Field Day hosted on November 14th

Saturday, November 14th, was the grand opening day of the 2015~2016 school year school-wide NEHS field day. Despite the chance of rain all the field events proceeded successfully due to the nice, balmy weather. The opening ceremony of the field day started out with students and teachers from each class marching in with their uniquely designed class t-shirts along with creative props, movements, and chants. This demonstrated every class¡¦s distinguishing characteristics and the outgoing, lively nature of the NEHS students. This year¡¦s power dance was performed by the IBSH high school students. As soon as the music started playing, all the IBSH high school students danced along with the rhythm of the music. Although the dance moves were simple, all the students appeared like one person dancing due to the unified dance movements. Afterwards, the radiant cheerleaders from IBSH performed, followed up by the inauguration of the PTA president. Throughout the morning, events included middle school and high school class relay, teacher¡¦s relay, and various field events. Each and every one of the contestants tried their best while the loud and enthusiastic cheers of the people formed a symphonic music. In addition, there were the fun games of the teachers and faculties, in which the players had to form a circle and use their feet to kick the soccer ball. Although this might seem like an easy game, all the players had to show their teamwork in order to control the soccer ball and win the game. The excitement was at its peak during the last field event of the day - 400M relay as the representatives in each class sprinted across the field hoping to get the champion trophy. Field day came to a successful end after the closing and awarding ceremony.

Love the old and the young. The 26th Flea Market held by Hui Chu Society.

In the morning of November 7th, on the red brick square of Hsinchu Science Park, a flea market was held by Hui Chu Society. This society was made by a group of wives of Hsinchu Science Park workers in 1990, and its purpose is to hold events for their children and to encourage people to learn and grow. This compassionate group of people brought the good habit of selling used goods from the United States to Taiwan, and holds flea markets annually, donating the earned money to social welfare units. This is the 26th year they've done this, and NEHS has always been part of this event. The middle school department of NEHS, led by Ms. He of the Discipline section, collects used goods and sells them on the day of the flea market. The total amount of money earned was given to Hui Chu Society for them to donate to four social welfare units: Hsinchu County Association for the Blind, St. Joseph Home, The Unique Atayal College, and Åw©I¨à. Aside from this, the Chinese Music Club and the Street Dance Club of NEHS also brought excellent performances, and through the means of community service shows what they learned in their respective clubs. NEHS wholly participated in this event, and by using the resources at hand, we were able to spread our love. This can be said to be the best manifestation of group spirit!

Christmas Shoebox: Year-End Warmth in the Winter

After you buy and wear a pair of new shoes, what would you do with the remaining empty shoebox? Ever since the creation of the "Christmas Shoebox"event held by the radio station "The Music of IC"in 2010, over 20,000 shoeboxes were sent out, and this year they further added a computer system to the mix in the hope that the children can receive suitably customized gifts. Our school IBSH has promoted this activity for many years; every year, the simple-looking shoebox is not only full of useful stationery and daily essentials but also overflowing with the benefactor's effusive magnanimity. Since the beginning of the school year at 2013, the middle school department has been actively participating in this activity every year, in hopes of personally experiencing the truth of the proverb "It is more blessed to give than to receive"by giving out warmth in the cold winter. This year, we continue to hold the charitable "Christmas Shoebox"activity and expect students to put their hearts into marshalling felicitous kits made especially for high school girls. In the light of its success, the Kindergarten Department also hosted the event, allowing the school's young children to chip in by trying their best to cough up something warm in time for the winter. With each department setting an example of a good deed for others to follow, the school wishes to inspire more people to open up their generous hearts and spread the love around Taiwan!

Excellent Performance at the International mathematical and science Olympiad for Primary School

The 12th International Mathematical and Science Olympiad for Primary School (IMSO) was hosted in Mankok, Thailand, between November 1st and November 7th. The IMSO was created by the Indonesian Ministry of Education in 2003, and is hosted by the Thailand Ministry of Education this year. There are 376 students competing in this year competition, representing twenty countries. The competition questions are divided into mathematics and sciences, and all questions are within the content and knowledge learned in elementary school. The test asks short answers, free-response questions, and experiment questions. All test questions are written in English and the students are asked to answer in English. Led by National Tsing-Hua University’s Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management Associate Professor, Dr. Ming-ChuanChiu, the Taiwan representative team is made up of nine elementary students. Of the nine, six students are from IBSH. They are Chu Lei Ho (5A), Yun Chen Tseng (6A), Austin Ma (6A), Albert Lin (6B), Kai Yan Tsung (6B), Theresa Chu (6B). Supervised by, Ms. Christina Hsiao, the Taiwan Representative Team won an impressive two silver medals and two copper medals.

Ms. Christine Yin and Mr. Dao-Ren Hsieh Win Excellent Lesson Plan Award

These past few years, the Department of Education has been pushing for the professional evaluation of teachers. One of the skills these advanced evaluators must possess is the ability to create a lesson plan. Dao-Ren Hsieh, a teacher of the experimental department, participated in the University of Taipei¡¦s ¡§2014 middle and elementary school teachers¡¦ professional development of evaluating excellent lesson plans¡¨ drafting competition, hosted by the Department of Education¡¦s teaching and art sections. Hsieh¡¦s lesson plan centers on the theme of ¡§treasure-hunting in the chemistry of life--precipitation,¡¨ and it reflects upon teaching through four different aspects: ¡§lesson design and teaching,¡¨ ¡§class management and guidance,¡¨¡§research development and studies,¡¨and¡§spirit and attitude of dedication.¡¨ On the other hand, Christine Yin, a teacher of the bilingual department, presented three-years worth of lesson planning. Yin followed the curriculum recommended by the common core standards to create the IBSH Curriculum Map, focusing on students learning outcomes. She analyzed the results of the standardized CTP4 examination and the AP Calculus tests, among others, in order to implement countermeasures of increasing teaching efficacy. In course design, Yin presented her College Board-approved freshman AP Calculus syllabus as well as her ninth-grade geometry and twelfth-grade calculus thematic designs. These teachers¡¦ lesson plans were truly amazing. After passing the school-wide preliminaries, the province-wide semifinals, and the nation-wide finals, the two teachers both won honorific mentions in the individual category, well-deserved indeed.
