                | In order to supplement the geography course for Experimental sophomores and to help students develop an awareness of their
surroundings , high  school geography teacher Ms.
                  Lin-Shiow
Liu organized  a field trip  for her students in the Hsinchu and
 Taoyuan  area.  Students  visited  Nanliao
                  to gain  an  under-
standing of the groin effect, toured the old Fanjiang residences
in Hsinwu  to get  an idea of special arrangement in traditional
Taiwanese  houses, and studied the  structure and
                  function of
irrigation ponds in Yangmei. The trip also took students to the
Sheng-Chi Pavilion in Lungtan as well as the old streets of the
town of  Kuanhsi  to learn more about  land development
                  and
water facilities.  Through  this  meaningful field trip, students
learned and realized that every place has its own unique tale to
 tell.  Special  thanks  to  Professor
Wei and the seniors of the
Department of Geography at NTNU for their assistance.
