“READING MT. JADE” CHALLENGES READERS IN INTELLECTUAL AND PHYSICAL STRENGTHS
While the steep, rocky and dangerous Jade Mountain represents the ultimate challenge to the climbers in Taiwan, the “Reading Mt. Jade” program is a series of 5 three-hour reading workshops that challenge the intellectual strengths of the readers at NEHS. Five speakers from different fields are invited to guide the participants in reading on the Jade Mountain from the geographical, literary, geological, native and physically-challenging perspectives. The highlight of the program will be a field exploration in the fall when the participants actually climb the Jade Mountain and test their physical strengths. The idea of the workshops “Reading Mt. Jade” originated from Ms. Ling-shiow Liu, a social studies teacher of the High School Department. With the help of two other teachers, Ms. Wei-bang Jieh and Ms. Miao-ling Tzeng, the workshops have successfully attracted many excited participants. The first workshop took place already on May 20. Best wishes to the rest of the workshops and the climbing trip!
