2005年NRC暑期研習名單確定
加拿大國家研究院自1997年起，除2003年因受SARS疫情影響而停辦一年，持續每年提供本校四位學生名額，於暑假期間到該研究院及渥太華大學進行六週的暑期科學研究。今年實驗部高二三班張皓瑜、高一四班呂哲安，以及雙語部十一年級諸彥傑、林晴立以優異的學科表現及具體的研究方向從申請的多位學生中脫穎而出，獲得參加此項研習的機會。在此預祝他們如同往年參加此研習的學長姐一樣，有出色的表現及豐碩的收穫。

本校承辦「高中職社區化實地諮詢輔導會議」
本校參加教育部推行「高中職社區化建構適性學習社區」為新竹市區召集學校。為共同檢視目前社區內共十二所學校施行狀況，本校特於三月三十一日在行政大樓第一及第二會議室舉辦「高中職社區化實地諮詢輔導會議」，由吳校長以輔導團召集人身分致詞並主持會議，邀請到各參與學校之承辦人員及實地諮詢輔導委員等共四十五人出席。從上午八時十分起至正午十二時，共四個小時的時間中，各參與學校不但報告施行情況、更藉由分組討論交換心得及綜合座談輔導委員的指導得以調整改進，重新加油再出發！在此特別感謝各校踴躍參與以及羅文基(教務長)、鍾香華(校長)和陳啟東(主任)三位輔導委員的懇切指導。

本校管樂隊參加「竹市千人音樂會」並與竹中共同舉辦「樂動春天－聯合音樂會」
由沈明尚老師指導的本校管樂隊代表實驗中學參與社區活動，分別參加市政府所主辦的「竹市千人音樂會」，並與新竹高中共同舉辦「樂動春天－聯合音樂會」。「海之饗宴－學生千人音樂會」為新竹市政府主辦「南寮看海月」觀光系列活動之一，於四月三日下午在觀海公園，由新竹市十四所高中、國中及國小學校共六百名管樂團員及四百名合唱團同學匯演，樂音悠揚，規模盛大。「樂動春天」則為本校與竹中兩校管樂隊聯合寒訓成果發表音樂會，於八日晚在新竹高中學生活動中心，演奏「悲慘世界」等共十一首曲目。兩校管樂隊精采的合奏，獲得在場觀眾如雷的掌聲。管樂社同學在沈老師的指導下，於平日及寒暑假均勤奮練習，從不懈怠，不但自行演練，也積極練習合奏，付出極大的心力和相當多的時間，才有這樣優異的表現與成績，值得給予宏亮的掌聲。

陳英豪教授 曾志朗教授 蒞校演講
國小部舉辦教師研習，三月份邀請到前教育廳廳長、現任考試委員及教育部推動生命教育委員會工作小組總召集人陳英豪教授和中央研究院副院長曾志朗教授分別於3月2日及16日下午在多功能教室演講「生命教育」及「人人都是科學人」。陳教授及曾教授學養深厚、幽默風趣，並具豐富的教學及行政經驗，以深入淺出的方式帶領教師們進入生命教育以及生活科學的領域，不但增進了很多相關的知識，更是見習了活潑生動的教學方式。在此感謝陳英豪教授和曾志朗教授的熱忱分享！

雙語部舉辦「董克蘊老師紀念畫展」
本雙語部同仁為紀念甫於二月初過世的董克蘊老師，特於四月六日起至二十二日止在圖書館藝文空間舉辦董老師紀念畫展，共展出董老師個人素描、水彩及油畫畫作共五十幅以及雙語部師生的數篇追念文字。董老師任教於雙語部已歷十載，擔任數學科教師，不但認真負責，更對學生付出所有心力；與同事相處多年，總是極其熱忱關懷，雖長年受苦於氣喘，卻還是時時關心同事、愛護學生，甚於照顧自己。董老師以四十七歲之芳華因病過世，同仁們懷念其平日行止，特由校長及黃芳芷主任於畫展前主持簡單隆重的追思禮儀，與同事好友們一起悼念長在大家心目中，熱情、可愛的董老師。

雙語部InterAct社團舉辦「校長盃籃球賽」
雙語部InterAct社團為增進同學運動、交流及競賽的機會，舉辦校長盃籃球賽，不但鼓勵部內同學參加，更熱情邀請高國中部的同學一起共襄盛舉。球賽於四月四日至八日午間進行，賽程激烈，共有二十隊參賽，最後由高三男生組和國三女生組以高超的球技勝出，榮獲冠軍，獲頒吳校長簽名的籃球為獎品。InterAct社團熱忱辛苦的籌辦，成功的促進了兩部同學友好的感情！

九歌兒童劇團蒞校演出「判官審石頭」
為配合藝術與人文課程並以增加學生藝術薰陶的方式慶祝兒童節，本校邀請九歌兒童劇團蒞校演出，在活動中心於四月一日上午十點半及下午兩點為幼稚園部、國小部及雙語部學童共演出兩場「判官審石頭」兒童劇。八位演員及幕後工作人員以精采的故事、生動的表演及精美簡潔的道具與燈光，不但緊緊抓住學生們的目光，更帶領著大家的心情隨著劇情的轉折而起伏。演員們還運用巧妙的問答互動讓學童們完全融入故事的情境當中，盡情的享受了一場文化盛宴。在此特別感謝家長會的協助與新竹市財團法人文化基金會全額補助此項活動，帶給本校學童一個最美好而深刻的兒童節。

國小部舉辦「寵物展」熱鬧有趣
為配合二年級生活課程「常見的飼養動物」單元，國小部特於四月八日上午八時四十分到十時十分，在活動中心舉辦了一場超級熱鬧的寵物展覽。活動由吳麗娟老師統籌負責，各班教師指導，美勞課教師也配合帶領學生製作海報。寵物展由朱建豪及張育瑄兩位實習老師主持，總共有四十位二年級的小朋友大方的展示並介紹自己的的寶貝寵物：小狗、小貓、鍬形蟲、烏龜及黃金鼠等。觀賞的小朋友則在各班導師的帶領下認真、好奇地參觀各寵物，不斷地問各樣的問題，小主人們也都耐心地一一解答。最後，小朋友們還票選了三隻「最高人氣獎」的可愛寵物，由照顧有功的小主人們代表領獎！

2005 NRC SUMMER PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS ANNOUNCED
Since 1997, the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) has given four students every year the opportunity to do scientific research at NRC research institutes and the University of Ottawa over a period of six weeks during summer. This year, Haw-Yu Chang, Che-An Lu of the High School Department, James Chu, and Erica Lin of the Bilingual Department have been selected from many applicants for their excellent academic performances and specific research proposals to participate in this program. We wish them the best of luck in learning and gaining memorable experiences this summer.

NEHS HOLDS A CONFERENCE FOR THE PARTTICIPATING SCHOOLS IN THE LEARNING COMMUNITY
Being the Convener School in Hsinchu area, NEHS has been actively participating in the Educations Ministry's "Building a Learning Community for High School and Vocational Schools" program. In an effort to allow everyone to see and learn from each of the twelve school's development and construction, Principal Wu hosted the Counseling and Consultation Conference for total forty-five guests from these neighboring schools on March 31 in the First and Second Conference Rooms. Thanks to the guidance and advice from the Counseling Committee members, the four hour long conference proved to be productive and effective.

NEHS BAND PARTICIPATES IN "HSINCHU CITY THOUSAND STUDENT CONCERT" AND "VERNAL MELODY JOINT CONCERT"
Under the guidance of Mr. Shen Ming-shang, the school band participated in the "Hsinchu City Thousand Student Concert" sponsored by the City Government in the afternoon of April 3 at Nanliao Harbor. Then, on the night of April 8, the band members of NEHS collaborated with those of National Hsinchu Senior High School during the "Vernal Melody Joint Concert," displaying superb results from their winter training. The performers received well-deserved, thunderous applause, a fitting finish for much hard work well done.

TWO OUTSTANDING SCHOLARS VISITS NEHS
The Elementary Department invited the former Minister of the Bureau of Education, Professor Chen In-hou, who is now a member of the Examination Yuan and an active promoter of Life Education, and Professor Ovid Tzeng, Vice President of the Academia Sinica, to hold a seminar for its teachers in March. Dr. Chen and Dr. Tzeng came to NEHS on March 2 and 16, respectively, and gave their humorous and intellectual speeches, "On Life Education" and "Everyone Can Be a Scientist", at the multimedia room in the afternoon. We want to express our gratitude to the two professors here!

BILINGUAL DEPARTMENT HOSTS MS. TUNG KO-YUN COMMEMORATIVE ART EXHIBITION
In loving memory of Ms. Tung Ko-yun, who passed away last February at the age of 47, the bilingual department hosted an art exhibition compiled of Ms. Tung's artworks in the library from April 4 to April 22. A total of fifty artworks including watercolor paintings, sketches, and oil paintings by Ms. Tung were displayed. Ms. Tung has faithfully dedicated a decade of her life serving the Bilingual Department as a mathematics teacher. Although Ms. Tung suffered from asthma for many years, she was always very caring towards her students and colleagues. Principal Wu and Dean Christine Huang hosted an opening ceremony for the exhibition and mourned for the passionate and beloved Ms. Tung.

INTERACT CLUB HOSTS "PRINCIPAL'S CUP" SPORTS ACTIVITIES
Retaining the spirit to increase cross-departmental friendship, InterAct brought the Principal's Cup onto the basketball courts and soccer fields for a series of competitive sports events. A total of twenty Experimental and Bilingual teams joined, with participants from seventh grade to twelfth grade. The two winning teams received a genuine soccer and basketball, both prizes personally signed by Principal Wu. These series of competitions have successfully increased cross-departmental companionship!

SONG, SONG, SONG, CHILDREN'S & PUPPET THEATER PRESENTS "THE JUDGE EXAMINES THE STONE"
In order to cooperate with the art and humanities curriculum and celebrate Children's Day, NEHS invited the Song, Song, Song, Children's & Puppet Theater to perform "The Judge Examines the Stone" in the school gym on April 1 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the Kindergarten, Elementary, and Bilingual Department students. Many thanks to the PTA and Hsinchu City's Culture and Education Foundation for sponsoring this activity.

EXCITING EXHIBITION CONCLUDES ANIMAL UNIT
Dogs, cats, turtles, gerbils, and even insects were shown off by forty second-grade students of the Elementary Department at a Pet Exhibition held in the Activity Center in the morning from 8:40 to 10:10 on April 8. The students not only enjoyed displaying their many pets and asking questions of many kinds, but also voted to choose three of the lovable animals to win the Most Popular Award!
