Reflections on Our Visit to NEHS on March 22
by Students from Kosaka Town, Akita Prefecture, Japan

Words from Mr. Ray Chin regarding those students' visit to NEHS:
Six Japanese students, coming from Kosaka junior school, visited NEHS on March 22, 2005. They were led by Tina Shang, one graduated student from the bilingual class of 2000 in NEHS. The trip is sponsored by Kosaka Office and Kosac International Society. The purpose is to promote an international outlook among the youth in Kosaka. The six students are Kimura Aoi(Grade 7), Hashiba Naoko, Metoki Manani (Grade 8), Kimura Hisano, Murakami Erika (grade 9) and Katahira Yuki (Grade 11). Our Bilingual Department students had a good time to interact with those guests. They asked many questions about Japan, and enjoyed the chance to be a good friend to those visitors.
The following are some feedback we got from our Japanese guests. We are glad that they enjoyed their visit and we truly hope they may visit us again.
All the students at NEHS were kind, cheerful, and lively. It was very different from school in Japan. But even though I was surprised and puzzled by many things it was still very fun. Students in Taiwan study many times more than students in Japan. They are much more passionate about studying. It was only one short day but we got to play sports and study together. Thank you very much.

During Activity I had a great time playing badminton and basketball. During other classes we saw a test, watched a video, exchanged questions, learned Chinese. It was fun because the teachers were all very interesting. I really want to visit Taiwan again.

Everyone was cheerful and high-spirited so it was fun to be together. Seeing classes conducted in ways totally different from Japan was a good experience. I wanted to converse more with everyone but couldn't express myself as well as I wanted. I need to study harder! Everyone was really approachable and friendly. I hope to have another chance to see everyone, especially the people I had fun playing basketball with. Thank you! Please send me letters:

I was surprised by so many things. NEHS was really different from my school in Japan. For example eating snacks during class and bringing video games to class would definitely not be allowed in Japan. I was really jealous! All the students were cheerful and lively, so being with everyone made me feel happy too. I welcome everyone to visit Kosaka, so please come!
                                                   ∼Naoko Hashiba

There were so many different and startling things but everyone still managed to study seriously during class. (Well, of course, it's still a school...) Eating snacks and drinking drinks during class would be impossible in Japan but everyone was doing it as if it was normal. At my school, we aren't even allowed to bring drinks in PET bottles. When I saw people drinking from them it made me feel a little nervous. Maybe everyone brings their own drinks because you can't drink the faucet water in Taiwan. In Kosaka, the faucet water is very clean and you can drink it the way it is! When you come to Kosaka, please try drinking the faucet water! It's really tasty! If you want to try homestay, please come to my house!
