2006 TRICK-OR-TREAT FOR UNICEF

BIGGER HEARTS, BIGGER PROCEEDS

The fundraising carnival for the 2006 “Trick-or-Treat for Unicef” service project took place at NEHS on Oct. 21. With the committed efforts of the six participating schools (Lung Shan Elementary, Ke Yuan Elementary, Guang Wu Junior High, Hsinchu Holland International School and the Taichung American School), this year’s fundraiser spanned into a grand scale and ended with a heartening amount of proceeds to help the needy children worldwide.

The inspiriting opening ceremony on Oct. 2 connected the hearts and united the efforts of the students, teachers and parents of the attending schools. Deputy Mayor of Hsinchu city, Mr. Chen, and the deputy chief of the Hsinchu City Education Bureau, Ms. Lee, attended the ceremony and commended the meaningful project for opening the hearts of the local youngsters to the disadvantaged children worldwide. In the following weeks of October, students were educated on different topics such as “education and protection”, “food, water and nutrition”.  The Wednesday sales attracted lots of customers who emptied their pockets for a good cause. The highlight of the fundraiser, the Carnival, took place on Oct. 21 on NEHS campus. Over 60 stands drew considerable number of visitors that crowded the central hallway. The joyful and charitable spirit in the air wove the gorgeous sunlit afternoon into a heartwarming memory.

UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) is an organization that supports child survival, protection, and development worldwide through education, advocacy, and fundraising. This year’s six-school united fundraiser with its large scale required immense amount of collaboration, yet the proceeds that was sent to the United Nations amounted to a comforting 700,000 NT. Thanks to the initiation and facilitation of Ms. Levine, and the enthused support of the students, teachers, parents and administrators of all schools, the 2006 “Trick-or-treat for Unicef” brought new meanings to Halloween to many local children and adults alike.

NEHS LIBRARY PUTS ON A NEW LOOK

THANKS TO THE FUNDING OF PTA

Under the meticulous supervision of Dean Luo, NEHS Library has put on a new look. The new layout renders the library spacious and orderly, and the patrons enjoy the coziness of a relaxing reading environment. NEHS owes the renovation to the generous PTA funding of 196000 NT. With the funding, the library built lockers at the entrance for students’ and teachers’ convenience, and hired helpers in summer to organize the shelved books for easier access and higher efficiency. Furthermore, the Library Webpage has advanced into a new visage with its new design and the recently added internet resources (databases on Science, Literature, Social Studies and Arts). New facility, new countenance, new resources, the NEHS Library awaits your exploration.
