NEHS CELEBRATES 24TH SCHOOL
ANNIVERSARY
Our school celebrated its 24th
anniversary on the 30th of March. The first event of
the day, which started at 8:30 a.m., comprised of delightful
student performances that brought a holiday atmosphere to the
day. Later, the retired teachers and faculty enjoyed a ten
o'lock tea party at the conference room, where colleagues had a
chance to catch up and reminisce about the past. Throughout the
day, the school fair, the flea market, and the annual karaoke
competition kept the students happily busy all day, while, on
the quiet side of the campus, the room mother told marvelous
stories to children and the library offered a silver screen
banquet for the soul. After dark, two Bilingual Department
clubs, Interact and Key Club jointly hosted the Charity Night,
which prolonged the jubilant ambience late into the night. We
would like to thank Mayor Lin, Deputy Director Yen of the Hsinchu Science Park, Principal Jiang of the National Chutung
Senior High School, and former principal of NEHS, Principal Tai,
for participating in our school 24th birthday
celebration. Let us all wish happier and more brilliant
tomorrows for NEHS.
HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT SENIORS'OIL PAINTING
EXHIBITION
OPENS AT HSINCHU SOCIAL EDUCATION CENTER
The much anticipated High School Seniors'Oil
Painting Exhibition opened on March 31st at the Hsinchu
Social Education Center. The
masterpieces of this year's senior class celebrated the fruitful
harvest of our school's art education. Portrait, scenery, and
still- life oil paintings by great artists demanded a certain
degree of skill and courage from the seniors to take on the
tough challenge of imitating. Furthermore, over one-third of the
students chose to challenge themselves with a 10F- sized canvas.
Under art teacher Ms. Hsu's undivided attention and guidance and
the full support of Principal Wu and the parents, students spent
their second semester of junior year slaving away in front of
the canvas, to finally emerge triumphantly with 120 works of
art. From learning about oil painting to emulating of great
artists and from staying in the art classroom countless nights
to further acquaint oneself with one's chosen painting, these
students wove a memory that will stay with them throughout their
lives. Alumni of the High School Department, regardless of age
or class, will be able to reminisce fondly on each brush stroke
and each struggling moment over their masterpieces for years to
come. We would like to thank Deputy Director Yen of the Hsinchu
Science Park and Division Director Kuo of the Hsinchu
Social Education Center for their
presence and encouragements to our students. We are also
grateful for Ms Hsu's guidance and our seniors' determination to
learn. NEHS is proud of you! (For details please see pages
12-14)
UNICEF’S EFFORTS RECOGNIZED NATIONWIDE
NEHS AWARDED FIRST-PLACE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
EDUCATION
The Ministry of Education hosted a 2006
National¡§Documenting Discoveries of Human Rights on School
Campus¡¨Competition, and NEHS's efforts in raising awareness of
human rights through the UNICEF fundraiser has won nation-wide
recognition and has been awarded first place. To encourage more
schools to creating a human rights-friendly campus and to raise
human rights awareness, the Ministry of Education endeavors to
select exemplary schools in this field and produce documentaries
of successful human rights education through a very rigorous
screen process. NEHS was proud to be awarded first place, and
the public television channel came to school on April 4 to
record a documentary. These documentaries will then be presented
as models to encourage a learning environment of civility and
respect. Both students and teachers at NEHS felt honored for
such recognition, and we hope that through this event we have
successfully inspired others in promoting awareness of human
rights through education.

IN SUPPORT OF PROLONGING THE LOVE OF BOOKS
NEHS CALL FOR DONATION OF USED BOOKS
Since the twelve organizations in Hsinchu
have united to push forward the charity book drive,¡§Prolonging
the Love of Books,¡¨with the thought of¡§Giving Opportunity to
Each Child Who Wants to Read,¡¨there had been a call for used
books. A¡§Book Lovers' Haven¡¨has been set up in many areas with
the goal of placing a reading haven within 750 meters (a walking
distance) of every child's home. At present, the havens are
short on books suitable for elementary and middle school
students, so the NEHS library, the PTA, and enthusiastic
volunteers jointly invited NEHS people to participate in the
book drive. Books in good condition were collected at the
library's first floor counter and the Elementary Department's
Room Mothers' Office between March 30th and April 4th.¡§One
person's book donation is a window opened in another's life¡¨,
through participating in this event, we hope to let old books
become useful once more, and to plant the love for reading in
everyone's heart.
