實中複合式餐廳正式供應午餐 嘉惠師生
本校委外經營複合式餐廳案已於7月25日與得荔企業有限公司簽約完成,並於八月卅日正式營運,將為實中師生提供至少三年之餐飲服務。本校午餐供應方式包括由廠商中央餐廚供餐至教室食用(國小部)、及廠商在本校廚房烹調供應之外帶、外送餐盒(高、國中及雙語部)、自助式午餐,以及麵食、簡餐、飲料等,並有早餐之供應。感謝家長會慨贈一套RO純水機,並更新一座鍋爐,且積極參與學校午餐委員會之運作,對全校師生在校之用餐,較諸以往將更有保障。由於廠商初次與本校合作,在營運初期尚有不盡如意之處,相信在學校行政同仁及家長的溝通與監督下,不久即可漸臻理想,讓實中師生、家長們不再需要為午餐費心。

實中承辦2007年亞太地區地理奧林匹亞競賽
首屆「2007年亞太地區地理奧林匹亞競賽」於7月12日至17日在實中舉行,計有來自墨西哥、日本、馬來西亞及我國之四隊共16名選手與賽;國際地理教育學會(IGEO)主席Mr. Henk Ankone以及中國地理學會執行長賴進貴教授並蒞臨指導。本次競賽之特色在於「首次使用GPS精密定位系統完成地理實察任務」,出題的巧思及高科技之運用,深受參賽選手肯定。活動於7月17日圓滿結束,感謝新竹市政府、世界高中、旺宏電子及大華技術學院等單位之熱心協助,以及各老師、行政人員及學生志工之熱烈奉獻,使此一國際青年學子之學術競賽圓滿成功;並期待不久將來實中能再有機會承辦如此精采盛會。實中園地學生記者之詳盡採訪與報導請見內文第5-11頁。

化學金牌 物理雙銀 實中再添奧匹殊榮
2007年國際奧林匹亞競賽,實中學子迭創佳績。高三4班何應佑同學勇奪化學科金牌獎,而甫於六月畢業的校友楊岡昀及吳張祺同學則雙獲物理科銀牌獎。楊岡昀與吳張祺兩位同學目前均就讀於台灣大學,在學術領域中更上層樓。特此感謝施建輝老師及陳元彰老師之用心指導,並預祝何應佑同學明年順利進入心目中的理想學府。

國小部榮獲新竹市科展團體組冠軍
新竹市第二十五屆國民中小學科學展覽,於96年6月1日於光華國中舉行。今年計有國中、國小組共一百四十六件作品參賽,本校國小部榮獲團體獎甲組第一名(劉如加、洪素惠老師指導)。科展之目的在激發學生探究科學興趣,並提昇科學研究風氣;實中國小部學生歷年參加科展均表現優異,今年再獲團體冠軍獎,充分展現科學教育之優良成果。

國小部陳如華老師 榮獲新竹市SUPER 教師獎
新竹市第五屆SUPER教師獎於6月10日公開頒獎,本校國小部陳如華老師光榮獲選為國小組SUPER教師,師生均與有榮焉。SUPER教師獎之宗旨在鼓勵並肯定具有創造力、影響力、生命力的SUPER教師,陳老師教學專注認真、抱持理想,以熱情和愛心,帶領學生踏入自然探索的領域,獲此殊榮,實至名歸,特此恭賀!

全方位英語戲劇營 高國中學員獲益良多
本校九十六年度高中職社區化適性學習社區合作專案計畫—『英語戲劇營』於8月下旬在第一會議室舉辦,分高中(20日至22日)及國中(23日至25日)兩梯次,計80學員參與。在國際知名之巡迴劇團Covenant Players之指導下,學員們在肢體動作運用、發音及詞彙加強、舞台表演儀態、眼睛表情訓練、臺詞情感表達及角色個性揣摩方面,均得以互相觀摩切磋,而提升英語表達能力及表演技巧,獲益良多。

思源科技創意大賽 榮獲佳績
由思源科技教育基金會主辦的2007年思源科技創意大賽,總決賽於8月25日在逢甲大學舉行,共有台北、新竹、台中、高雄四區通過各地區複賽的19支隊伍參加競逐。實中團隊表現出色,在「數學專題」項目,高中部同學組成的「小學代表隊」獲銀牌,「貝塔隊」則獲銅牌,「創新超越隊」獲佳作。在「科學統合競賽」項目,「嘰咕帕隊」獲佳作。思源科技大賽總是在溽暑中奮戰,感謝施建輝、陳金楓、林秋月、林淑真、莊添丁、顏貽隆及葉佐欽老師犧牲假期用心指導,以及同學們堅持不懈的努力,為實中增光。(得獎名單詳見榮譽榜)
 

NEHS LUNCH SERVICE LAUNCHES ON AUGUST 30

The NEHS lunch service was successfully contracted out on July 25 to DELICACY Enterprise, and has been in successful operation since August 30. The lunches have been provided in three different ways: lunch served in the classroom (Elementary Dept.), lunch box-takeouts to the classroom (Junior, Senior High and Bilingual Dept.), and the eat-in-diner, which provides set-meals and drinks. Breakfasts are also available in the morning. Many thanks to NEHS PTA for the generous donation of the new Reverse Osmosis water purifying system, which will help ensure the quality and sanitation of the school lunches. Thanks to all students, teachers and parents for their patience and understanding during the beginning of the operation. With the supervision of the NEHS administration and supportive parents, we believe that lunch time will soon be delightful and stress-free for all.

ASIA-PACIFIC REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY OLYMPIAD HELD AT NEHS

The 2007 Asia Regional Geography Olympiad, a first regional competition in Asia, was held at NEHS during July 12 to 17. Sixteen contestants from four countries (Mexico, Japan, Malaysia and ROC) participated in the contest. Mr. Henk Akone (Chairman of the International Geography Olympiad) and Mr. Lai from the Geographical Society of China Located in Taipei graced the occasion with their presence. The unique feature of this year's competition was the unprecedented integration of“the GPS application into the field test operations”, which was highly applauded by all contestants. We thank the Hsinchu City Government, Hsinchu World Senior High School, Ta Hwa Institute of Technology and Macronix, Inc. for their support and assistance. We look forward to hosting another of such grand event in the future (details on p.5-11).

OLYMPIAD GOLD AND SILVER MEDALS GLORIFIED NEHS

Several High School Department students won glory in the 2007 Chemistry and Physics Olympiad. Senior Ho Yin-yo received Gold medal in Chemistry, and the recently graduated alumni Yang Gang-yun and Wu Chang-chi both received a Silver medal in Physics. Yang Gang-yun and Wu Chang-chi are both freshmen at the Taiwan University this fall. Thanks to their teachers, Mr. Shih Chien-hui and Mr. Chen Yuen-chang for their most-valued guidance, and best wishes to Ho Yin-yo on his college application in spring.

ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT WON CHAMPIONSHIP AT SCIENCE FAIR

The science team at the Elementary Department has once again brought honors to NEHS by winning the group championship at the 25th Hsinchu City Science Fair. The Science Fair aims to inspire and promote students to explore and research in the field of Science. This year the fair took place on June 1 at Guang-Hwa Junior High School. Among the 146 projects entered, the NEHS Elementary team brought home the honor of the Championship of the Group Award. Thanks to teachers Ms. Liu Ru-jia and Ms. Hung Su-hui for their dedication and to the students for their hard work. What a great manifestation of the excellent quality of the Science Education at NEHS!!

MS. CHEN RU-HWA HONORED AS SUPER TEACHER OF HSINCHU CITY

The 5th Hsinchu City Super Teacher Award was presented on June 10 to Ms. Chen Ru-Hwa of the Elementary Department. The purpose of the Super Teacher Award is to encourage and recognize teachers with creativity, influence and the power of life. Ms. Chen is a devoted and passionate teacher who enjoys leading her students in exploring nature. Receiving the Super Teacher Award is a tangible testimony to her exemplary teaching quality. Congratulations to Ms. Chen for the great honor!

ENGLISH DRAMA CAMP POLISHED BOTH PERFORMING AND ENGLISH SKILLS

The 2007 English Drama Camps, held during late August for Junior and Senior High students respectively, witnessed a total of 80 students practice their dramatic and English skills. High School camp took place on August 20 to 22, and Junior High camp followed on August 23 to 25. Under the instruction of the renowned performance group “The Covenant Players”, the students had a marvelous time acting upon their dreams through the Seven Basics of Performance. They performed a few different plays and lived the excitement of DRAMA.

HGH SCHOOL JUNIORS AND SENIORS PERFORMED OUTSTANDINGLY

IN SPRINGSOFT SCIENCE COMPETITION
The 2007 Creative Science Competition, sponsored by the Springsoft Education Foundation, held its Nationwide Finals on August 25 at Feng Chia University. Nineteen teams competed in the finals and NEHS students won great honor. In “Mathematics” category, the NEHS High School team, “The Elementary Representatives”, won a silver medal, while“Beta”won bronze, and “Creativity and Going Beyond” was named “Good Work”. In category “Science Integrated”, the “Ji-gu-pa” team was mentioned as “Good Work”. The challenge of the Springsoft Science Competition was always aggravated by the sweltering summer heat. Thanks to Mr. Shih Chien-hui, Mr. Chen Jin-feng, Ms. Lin Chiu-yui, Ms. Lin Shu-jen, Mr. Chuang Tien-ding, Mr. Yen Yi-long and Mr. Yeh Zuo-chin for their hard work and dedication during the summer holidays, and to the students for their unconditional perseverance. Your efforts have made us proud!!
