“Embracing one’s passion in the career path”。

Regional High School Health Promotion Conference took place at
NEHS on May 27. Over one hundred high school hygiene and
sanitation personnel from Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli and
Lien-kang participated in the event. Professor Liu form the

the autonomy in students and faculty in monitoring their own

create a healthier campus.
STUDENT COUNCILS’
LEADERS INSPIRED BY “MAYOR FOR A DAY”
Presidents of both “High
School Department Student Council” and “Bilingual Department
Student Council”, Hsu Jia-Kai and Benjamin Hsu, each had the
privilege of being a “Mayor for a day”. They each accompanied
Mayor Lin of Hsinchu City for one day throughout his entire
schedule and learned first-hand what it took to be a leader in
the real world. Hsu Jia-kai was amazed by Mayor Lin’s amazing
problem-solving capacity, great leadership and endless energy.
Benjamin Hus learned that having a clear mind, using great
wisdom, and aspiring for efficiency were essential to accomplish
all that were required of a Mayor in just one day. Thanks to
Mayor Lin and Director Chiang for arranging such meaningful
program for young leaders to learn form a seasoned statesman. It
is certainly a once-in-a-life time experience.
ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT
STUDIO: A GREAT SUCCESS
The second Elementary
Department Studio was held in the Gym on May 2. The exciting
event featured a film that documented the major activities
throughout the school year. The film was shot by a team of
Elementary Department students under the guidance and assistance
of teacher Mr. Chu. The shooting process took eight months. Mr.
Chu helped edit the film, dubbed the background music, and
orchestrated the entire stage show for the playing day. The
documentary took the audience on a sweet trip down the memory
lane, and students and teachers were especially proud when they
found themselves in the film as well. Thanks to the hard work of
Mr. Chu and the camera crew, a lovely memory was saved and
relished.
MS. LEE’S MORNING PE
PROGRAM WON FIRST PLACE
Ministry of Education’s
award on outstanding physical activities for morning has
announced Ms. Lee of the Elementary Department a first place
winner. Ms. Lee has implemented an early morning physical
program between 7:20 to 8:05 daily. Students join on a voluntary
basis and enjoy a variety of sports and activities. The purposes
of the program are to improve students’ physical health and
exercise abilities. The various exercises keep students
motivated, and the monthly physical check-up results reinforce
students to press on. As a result, students became healthier,
more energetic and better-disciplined, and the program received
good words from all. Congratulations to Ms. Lee for the honor
and hooray for the students for their perseverance. The award
and recognition from the Ministry of Education are
well-deserved.
EVENTS THAT TAKE THE
SUMMER HEAT AWAY
Summer days on NEHS’s campus are punctuated with lovely
mind-refreshing events. On May 21 the Shi-men Elementary
school’s famous diabolo team put on a show of fabulous skills.
The team had been awarded Best Performance nationwide in 2007,
and their mastery of the diabolo that day met with great
applause and admiration. On the same day, a touching speech was
given by Dr. Chen on “Embracing one’s passion in the career
path”. Dr. Chen is a renowned composer whose work has been
well-received both nationally and internationally. She shared
her personal experiences in pursuing her dreams and encouraged
NEHS students to bravely embrace their passion in their career
path. Yet to come is the celebrated scholarly choir, the Harvard
Krokodiloes, who will be singing at NEHS on June 11. The
Krokodiloes, composed of 12 members, is Harvard University’s
oldest a cappella singing group. They tour worldwide for over
200 shows each summer, and this June their celestial voice will
resound in the Gym of NEHS even long after they are gone. We
look forward to the lovely event. ▲TOP
