Field Day on November 10th
On November 10th (Saturday), NEHS hosted our
splendid year 101 field day. Reaching to our 30th anniversary,
the school also invited the retired teachers to the pre-field
day ceremony marching and an afternoon tea party. In the
marching, our students wore class t-shirts that showed their
enthusiasm, brought hilarious props, read interesting class
introduction, and acted exaggerated movements, all to
demonstrate our NEHS vivacity and creativity. Among all
Departments, the Kindergarten Department vibrant, youth
athletes' cuteness drew most of spotlight from the audience. On
the other hand, our alumni avidly entered the field and brought
a contagiously passionate atmosphere by brandishing each of
their university's school flags; held roses, balloons, and
¡uThirty-FungHua at NEHS¡v's flags, the retired teachers received
applause and cheers from the crowd. This year, IBSH students,
representing our school for the power dance, performed with a
youthful spirit that attracted everyone's attention. The field
day consisted of numerous intense competition, including the
finals field events and the class relay which became the
culmination of the day. The field day ended with 7 to 12
graders' faculty member 9-square pitching game and finally, the
presenting of the most spirited award. (For year 101 field day

Growing Up with the Middle-School: Our School
Convenes the Year 101 Hsinchu-district Homogenization Meeting
The 101th school year High-School adaptive
learning teaching resource homogenization meeting was grandly
held in our school’s First Conference room on December 3rd. A
total of 12 high schools, including the International Bilingual
School in Hsinchu Science Park, Hsinchu Senior High School,
Guang-Fu Senior High School, and National Hsinchu Commercial
Vocational High School, 50 teachers, and media reporters were
involved with the meeting. This post-term meeting beginned with
Principal Christine Huang’s greetings for all the schools,
teachers, principals, and media reporters of Hsinchu involved,
stressing that the objective of the homogenization project is to
help Middle-School students grow up with their guidance. It is
also for the promotion of laying the 12-year educational
foundation, promoting communication and resource sharing within
the High-School. Furthermore, it will also strengthen the
integration of the Middle-School. After Principal Huang
greetings, our school undertaker for homogenization, teacher Kim
Lin from the Bilingual Department, and the other Hsinchu-district
representatives of the homogenization project introduced the
plans of the project for this year and encourages all staff
members to be engaged with the project. Lastly, they invited all
Middle-School principals in Hsinchu to sign the letter of intent
for the cooperation of this project. (for more information see

Singapore Nanyang Girls' High School Visit
On Friday,November 11, Mr. Deng and Ms. Chen
from the Singapore Nanyang Girls' High School led 21 Humanities
Programme students to visit NEHS. The High School academic
director Ms. Liu received them with a warm hospitality and a
welcoming speech. The students listened to a presentation about
NEHS, toured the campus, and participated in Mrs. Brosseau 10th
grade history class in IBSH. The class began with the Nanyang
Girls High School students giving brief introduction on their
school and Singapore’s history, geography, and culture. Mrs.
Brosseau then followed up with a history discussion activity
where students took on different viewpoints because of their
diverse backgrounds, making the class even more interesting.
Afterwards, Biology Teacher Mr. Jie managed the High school
department’s 2nd grade 4th class as they split into groups to
introduce the sea slug exhibitions in English to the visitors.
The Singaporean students left with an unforgettable memory of
their lively and intriguing interactions. ( See highlights on
page 14)
Futuristic Vision Project: Landboat
"If a fan is blowing wind directly in front
of a boat, can the boat still use the energy from this movement
to move against the wind?" "Yes!", says Ms. Feng confidently.
She is the teacher in charge of the high-school department's
"Plan to foster creative talent." A record-breaking 60 teams
consisting of 200 students from ninth and tenth grade
participated in the "landboat tournament", which was held during
the afternoon of November 14. The students used their
imaginations and brainpower to design boat-like structures with
the best possible angle of the sails, body of the boat, and form
to minimize friction. They had to support idea of renewable
energy, design their boats creatively, and accomplish the task
of "using the sideways force from an electric fan directly in
front of the boat to propel it forward". This is the main
concept behind the design of the high school department physics
faculty's landboat tournament. At the same time, the activity
tries to let students understand science concepts better and
solve problems scientifically through the fun science
competition.
Through the Ancient Civilizations, Creativity
With History
After attending the international book fair
and seeing Germany's wide variety of board games, Mr.Chen Quan
Hua was inspired to allow his junior history class to have a
fresh twist to it. Different from the traditional dull and
dreary history classes, this school's junior's history class
broke out of the usual limits, allowing students to learn more
about the Western medieval civilizations, feel the history, and
combine history with their creative minds to create board games
of ancient civilizations that were both intellectual and fun.
Out of this came games like Greece Bingo and Ancient Egypt
Monopoly, attracting numerous heroes to join and fight over the
thrones of ¡§King of Creativity¡¨ and ¡§King of Popularity¡¨. Want
to know how the NEHS students creatively play with history? Head
to the gym on the afternoon of January 2nd, 2013 and join them
as they pass through the ancient times!
The Academic Affairs Office hosts ¡§Connect
with the World¡¨
The Academic Affairs Office of the High
School Department hosted the ¡§Connect with the World¡¨ series of
events with the National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) branch of
AIESEC (International Economic and Commercial Sciences Students
Association). They invited university volunteers from New
Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, and several other
countries. Using their noon and after-school time, these
volunteers get involved in the classes, cultural seminar
courses, and ¡§English Table¡¨ discussions. The school hopes that
exchanging ideas with international volunteers will provide a
multicultural English-learning environment in the school, make
learning English more interesting, and train the students'
abilities to communicate and connect with the world.
