High School Department Chen Yongjing, Luo Fangchen, Cheng Peichen, and Chou Guanshu won second place in 12th National High School Taiwanese Humanities History division.

Seniors Chen Yongjing, Luo Fangchen, Cheng Peichen from Class 1 and Chou Guanshu from Class 3 won second place in the 12th national high school humanities history division award. These four high school students have spent almost a year to finish the research paper composed of almost twenty thousand words delineating the worship of the Wood Carved Earth God in temples around Hsinchu Science Park. Under the encouragement and guidance of history teacher Ms Chen, they have done research, analysis, and surveys of the Earth God temples in the Jin Shan district on how the local citizens have worshipped them in the area. Special thanks to teacher Ms Chen¡¦s guidance, hard work, and research with these students. The national high school Taiwan humanities award is the only social and humanitarian research paper competition in Taiwan. Focusing on high school students, the competition aims for the local research and arrangement of the fields covering humanities, including History, Geography, Language Arts, and Culture.

7th Grade Class 2 Tseng Yuan-rong wins second place in individual and group International Young Mathematicians Conference

Representing 56 high school teams, 78 middle school teams from 18 countries, the International Young Mathematicians' Convention 2012, IYMC-2012 was held at Lucknow, India from December 1st to 4th. IYMC, founded by India in 2004, is a competition that aims to give teenager the opportunity to exchange mathematical talents, to promote teenagers from every parts of the world to develop friendship and, at the same time, to discover potential mathematical talents. Under the packed schedule of the competition, the contestants must complete and respond the team relay, team event, individual event in English. 7th grade class 2, Zeng Yuan, with brilliance in Mathematics and English won silver medals in the individual event and the team event.

IBSH Matthew Liu, Ray Chu, Brian Chen Won 2nd Place in the 14th National Internet Programing Competition

The 14th National Internet Programing Competition started at the beginning of December, and IBSH students 12A Matthew Liu, 12B Ray Chu and 10A Brian Chen won 2nd place in the high school group. The National Internet Programing Competition was held by the National Science Council along with the University of Taiwan, and the questions were mainly algorithmic types with a strong emphasis on the way the question was solved. Questions included types like finding the shortest path or dynamic programming, well suited for students who enjoy taking on the challenge of programming. 25 teams were chosen from all the original competing teams for the final round, which was held in the network information center of the University of Taiwan, where the teams have to solve six to eight questions within five hours. Although the competition is made up of three-man teams, each group only has one computer, so not only does this test the members?programming ability, it also values the members?teamwork and time management skills.

High School Chinese Teachers Including Wenrong Li, Anying Lin, Qiuwen Chen, and Mengfang Xu Invited to Write for the United Daily News column

Recently, because the entrance exam has about the same amount of modern and traditional Chinese test questions, and since the multiple choice questions have similar answers, many students believe that it is harder to understand modern Chinese than it is to understand traditional Chinese. In order to assist the middle and high school students in solving this issue, the United Daily News publishes a ?Middle and High School Students Modern Chinese Appreciation?column every Saturday in the educational edition. They specially invited NEHS High School Chinese teachers including Wenrong Li, Anying Lin, Qiuwen Chen, and Mengfang Xu to write for the column. The self-publication’s content discusses topics such as free-write essays, novels, new poetry appreciation, winning the approval of many students and even adults.

NEHS becomes the 2013 school year chair of the Hsinchu-Miaoli Area High School Vocation Application and Admission Committee

NEHS became the 2013 school year chair of the Hsinchu-Miaoli Area High School Vocation Application and Admission Committee for the first time, and our school will be in charge of enrolling students for vocational education. A preparation meeting and the first committee meeting was held on December 18, 2012. The meeting moderator was Principal Huang while Dean Liu of the Office of Academic Affairs, Registrar Lee, and others were responsible for planning the meeting and discussion topics. A total of 73 people including: the Hsinchu-Miaoli Area school inspector, members of the Education Department, as well as principals and deans of other high schools attended the meeting. The implementation of the plan, organization regulations, work schedules, and 12 other important agendas were discussed in the meeting.

Various departments of NEHS celebrate Christmas with many exciting activities

As the year 2012 came to an end, the various departments of NEHS arranged a series of exciting celebratory activities. First, the Office of Student Affairs of the middle- and high-school departments planned many performances from December 21 to December 24 from the string orchestra, symphonic band, guitar club, chorus, and pop club, in order to celebrate the holidays and spread Christmas cheer. The teachers also had a powerful tap dancing performance that was well-received. The annual Christmas Concert, planned and decorated by the bilingual department parents, also took place on December 22 (Saturday). The event was kicked off by the joyous music of the bilingual department's orchestra. The "Call Me Maybe" video arranged and filmed by Ms. Marina Lin, which featured the entire faculty of the bilingual department, received overwhelming applause. The school also succeeded in attracting over 60 alumni to participate in the first back-to-school event for alumni. The elementary department allowed the students to put their thankfulness into action and share their warm feelings with the world during the holiday season through various activities such as a music concert, play performance, singing contest, video watching, and writing thank-you cards. The children in the kindergarten department expressed their feelings by preparing and sending shoeboxes full of charity gifts.

By collecting gifts together, the students, teachers, and parents helped the children Jingshih Village and also learned and practiced the spirit of sharing and caring.
