IBSH students performed excellently in the World Scholar's Cup Taiwan Round

IBSH students 9A Matthew Wang and Leon Pao, 9B Jasper Chen, 10A Daniel Hoover, 10B Jonathan Pan and Michelle Li performed excellently in the World Scholar's Cup Taiwan Round. And they will represent Taiwan Region to join the WSC Global Round in Dubai in June. The World Scholar's Cup is an international team academic competition with students participating in over 30 countries. There are four events to the World Scholar's Cup: the Scholar's Challenge, the Essay, the Team Debate, and the Quiz-Bowl. The topics and questions for these events are from six different subjects: science, history, art, psychology, economics, and literature. The participants will learn the importance of the teamwork, develop the willingness to learn new things, and practice leadership.

Elementary Department Fifth-Grade Creative "Constellation Play" for Science Class

The fifth-grade science teacher of the Elementary Department, Ms Yu-Ling Wong, organized an annual constellation play to accompany the science lessons on constellations. It allows students to understand more stories about constellations through theatrical performance. Since the start of the second semester, students have formed groups to collect interesting stories about constellations, design props for their performances, and rehearse during break time. These weeks of hard work and practice are all ultimately intended to present the wondrous myths to their audience. The multifaceted constellation plays not only allow audiences to experience the rich imaginations of ancient peoples, but also help inject life into the constellation lessons in science class and teach the fifth-graders the virtues of teamwork and creativity. Bilingual Department Holds Hsinchu Area ¡§English Teacher¡¦s Reading Workshop¡¨

In order to allow high school English teachers to have a complete knowledge of teaching, to improve teaching methods and assessments, and to raise the effect of high school English in the Hsinchu area, the bilingual department will hold lectures on “Plans for and “Workshop on Reading for English Teachers  These lectures will be held on 4/8, 4/22, 5/2, and 5/9 along with two courses of basic and intermediate reading technique courses (Literacy Talk I, II) for them to observe and implement teaching ways. IBSH teachers Ms. Katherine Shen and Ms. Marina Lin were invited as the speakers, talking about how to “Integrate Media into Teaching English  allowing the participating teachers to brush up their teaching skills and to use practicing to develop a wide range of learning activities. With the goal of improving high school students?English skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, teachers achieved their purpose in enhancing their teaching methods.

Kindergarten Department ¡§ Thankful Tea Offering¡¨ Event

In the morning of Saturday, May 4th, the Kindergarten Department held the fourth  Thankful Tea Offering Event to celebrate Mother’s Day. The event kicked off with an art exhibition, where the children displayed their imaginative  Portraits of my Mother creations, each one bringing astonishment and joy to the mothers. At 9:00 AM sharp, the students carefully carried out tea trays towards their mothers in the main hallway, where they kneeled respectfully and offered them tea, causing many mothers eyes to glisten with tears of joy. Afterwards, the  Hug of Love further let the mothers feel the love and gratitude their children felt towards them. At the same time, in order to assist the oldest class in graduating successfully and moving to the elementary curriculum, the Kindergarten Department invited the elementary teacher Min Gui Xie to lead the Young Interactions topic lecture, to informing both parents and students about entering elementary school, including about preparations, the elementary school environment, self-sufficiency, and other related issues ( See page 13 for further information).

High School Department Attends ¡§Zheng Chou Yu¡¦s 80th Birthday¡¦s Praise of Music and Poetry¡¨

The sophomores of the NEHS high school department were invited to ¡§Zheng Chou Yu¡¦s 80th Birthday¡¦s Praise of Music and Poetry¡¨ held at Ching Hua University on April 10th to celebrate the poet Zheng Chou Yu¡¦s 80th birthday. Under the guidance of Chinese teacher Lin An Ying, the sophomore students used their creativity and passion to change the poem ¡§Fu Bei¡¨ into a song accompanied by the guitar. They practiced diligently after school and performed it on that day in respect for as well as to celebrate contemporary poetry. On that day, professor Zheng expresses his belief that one day, there will be world peace and wishes for this as his birthday wish for the year. The principal of Ching Hua University Chen Li Jun says that he is delighted at the attendance of so many passionate youths, further proving that the poet Zheng¡¦s works do not disappear over time, and that poetry has the ability to move through space and time to touch the hearts of the people of every generation.

High School Department Guidance Section Holds ¡§Striving Towards Love¡¨ Educational Event

The Guidance Section of the High School Department held the triving Towards Love series of educational events. They invited Ms. Luo from the National Hsinchu University of Education to lead the event. By making students discuss in small groups, practice, and take action, Ms. Luo was able to get her two main topics: kills of Helping Others: Exploring, Observing, and Taking Action and  ommunication, Conflict Resolution, Financial Management, Parent-Child Relationships, and Stresses of Families across. She arranged several topics of discussion, case studies, and books to discuss based on the students needs and relationship with parents. The first main topic Ms. Luo discussed was intended to improve the students communication skills and understand other people feeling by learning the ways to help others. The second main topic was intended to explore the impact of marriage and family on self-esteem in the modern society by discussing the students ideal image of marriage and family.
