A Merry December: Shows and Activities!

As the Christmas bells were ringing and the year was ending, a series of exciting shows rocked the school. Beginning from December 20th, the Guitar Club, Pop Music Club, Chinese Music Club, and High School Choir celebrated Christmas with energetic performances during noon time for four consecutive days, accompanied by festive perforamnce of the teachers singing.

At the same time, the Shoebox of Love tradition continued, where students carefully wrapped presents and necessities within shoeboxes and sent them to elementary students far in rural or mountainous areas. Through these lovely holiday activities, elementary students were able to express gratitude and create a warm atmosphere; on December 23rd, teachers collaboratively performed a play called “The Little Screw,?hoping that the children could further appreciate the happiness and opportunities inherent in education. Last but not least, with the help of IBSH parents in planning and decorating, the Talent Show on December 30th brought about the grand finale of the month. This year, the concert was not only limited to musical performances, but included all sorts of performing talents. Students participated with enthusiasm throughout the concert from 10am to 4pm, displaying unconcealed livelihood. Additionally, the Kindergarten Department embarked on a journey of caring by choiring in a senior citizens activity center and hosting their own Shoebox of Love, where teachers and parents cooperated to gather various presents and spread the love to kids in more remote areas.

The Middle and High School Department Celebrates International Human Rights Day

Since 1950, the United Nations General Assembly has marked December 10th each year as International Human Rights Day in order to celebrate the passing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on this day in 1948. The Office of Student Affairs of our Middle and High School Department specially coordinated the commemoration of this memorable day by providing information regarding human rights issues to students. High school students could even ask for rite for Rights postcards to advocate our human rights! Middle school students, on the other hand, could probe deep into issues regarding International Child Labor Rights through presentations and worksheets. On December 10th, Ms. Wanqing Xu ended the event on a high note by conducting a visit to the National 228 Memorial Museum in hopes that students would further understand and connect to this important issue.

Elementary Department Visits Taipei School in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Led by our principal, along with some teachers and parents, 30 sixth-grade students from the Elementary Department embarked on an exciting visit to the Taipei School in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This trip is a component of our school  focus on international education, and for elementary students, nearby Asian countries that share some of Taiwan  culture are a perfect starting point for them to experience diverse cultural interactions. Before the actual visit, the students from both schools already got to know each other and even planned activities through video chatting. Following their arrival at Vietnam, the students not only experienced the local education environment but also engaged in fun activities that challenged their understanding of each other's culture, customs, science, and more. Our elementary students also took the chance to visit several well-known landmarks including the Independence Palace and the Saigon Central Post Office, gaining valuable knowledge through the visit.

Wakimachi High School Pays a Visit

On December 15th, twenty-four SSH (Super Science High School) students and faculty from Wakimachi High School, came to our school to exchange greetings and information with the students of NEHS  H203 class. The students from Japan also brought simple handmade battery-powered cars for a racing game. Special thanks to teacher Qiu Yue Lin for making this program possible and to the homeroom teacher Yu Zhen Zhou for her full cooperation. The language difference did not stop the students from interacting and learning from each other; they felt richly rewarded by the class arrangement and the handmade car racing game. Even though the cold wave struck during their visit, the warm and enthusiastic H203 students successfully gave the Japanese students a welcoming reception and completed the one-and-a-half day International Exchange Program.
