Papa Ciccio :¡¦)!
Papa Ciccio is my correspondent’s
favorite pasta place! For three consecutive days, we planned to
go there for lunch, but always found that it had closed already
when we got there. On Thursday, we finally got our pasta, and
ate by the riverside with other correspondents! We enjoyed our
meal under the warm sunshine—I still can never forget the super
creamy taste of the pasta, no wonder it was her all time
favorite. It was also interesting knowing that many of the
French correspondents?belongings have fallen into the river at
least once (and it’s probably still in there). Anyways, it was
one of the best moments I’ve had in Strasbourg!

Weekend Hike
My homestay family took me hiking
with their friends on the second day of my stay! We arrived at a
small town, the designs of the houses were eye-catching like any
other Alsatian homes. Soon, their friends arrived and we headed
towards a small path along the river that led us to the
mountains. Two rainbows greeted us along the path and marked the
start of our adventure. At first the trail wasn’t so bad as we
were walking mostly on stone; however, it started raining, the
paths got steeper and we were walking on moss and mud :(!
Luckily we stopped by two medieval castles, and my homestay
father told me stories of these ancient forts! The journey
downhill was even more of a challenge and I accidentally slipped
several times. Although the four hour hike was exhausting, it
was truly a memorable and refreshing experience!

School Exchange Program
Âù»y³¡ 9B ³¯¤ßËi
This is the first day we go to
their school and it’s so beautiful. The structure was very
different from Taiwan. In Taiwan, the buildings are really
simple and basic, but in Strasbourg, their school is like
buildings from the 1900s. The school we exchanged with is called
Lycée International des Pontonniers. Created in 1902, the school
is nearly 120 years old. A teacher showed us around the school
and talked about its history. After that, we had a History class
and the teacher explained to us the history of Strasbourg. The
class was really interesting and I learned a lot in those two
hours. In the afternoon, we had a field trip, and she took us
around Strasbourg, showing us the famous Cathedral and La Petite
France, which means small France. My friends and I took a lot of
pictures during the trip because the scenery was so beautiful.

Âù»y³¡ 9B ³¯¤ßËi
Today we had an English class in
the morning with two other exchange students also from Taiwan.
The English teacher was so interesting! She engaged with the
students a lot and was so entertaining. We all had fun getting
to know each other a little more and reading the poem she gave
us. We had French class in the afternoon and had a field trip
going around the city of Strasbourg. The teacher split us into
two groups and gave us a paper full of directions in French
since he thought we all have basic knowledge of French, which
most of us do not. Nevertheless, with the help of the students
that do know a bit of French, we were able to work it out and
overcome the difficulties and struggles we encountered. I guess
this is why people say, teamwork makes the dream work .

When we actually got to attend
school on Monday and get a glimpse at their school, we were all
blown away. It was located next to a winding river with willows
lining it. The school itself was built like a European manor,
with spires and mosaic windows. Inside, the banisters for the
stairs all had ancient, intricate designs of flowers and vines,
and even the floor tiles had patterns of varying animals. It all
seemed to be straight out of a fairytale. I was so envious of
the students there, getting to have class in a literal castle.
So why was my correspondent so dismissive of this seemingly
perfect school?

French class:
The teacher expected us to have a
higher level of French, and we disappointed him quite a bit.
Nevertheless, he still took us out on a nice stroll around the
city, where we had to finish some tasks. We visited a Chanel
store and asked the price of a bottle of makeup. We visited a
bookstore and tried to ask the storekeeper about where some
books were placed. I myself learned only a few words from the
entire class, like Gauche (left) and Droite (right), but I still
had a great time.

During the five days of school
activities, I pretty much wandered through every street in
Strasbourg: We had some classes in the UNESCO ?Lycee des
Pontenniers? where we experienced the life as a French student;
We learned French while maneuvering through the streets of
Strasbourg and Colmar, where we learned how to cooperate even
with differences with culture and developing friendship; We
payed a visit inside the Conseil de Europe and the European
Parliament, where we discovered the importance of gaining global
literacy no matter what age you are; We went uphill and visited
the Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, where the snow gave us lasting
memories that we would never forget. At night it was just as
busy as I was in the daytime: I went to a professional
basketball match with Eric and Victor for the first time in my
life; When I feel bored, there is always someone who’s willing to
accompany me; We went to a Laser Quest game, where everyone
played so enthusiastically; And after the farewell party on the
last school day, we had a party in Daniel’s host family’s house,
where we forgot all the sorrow of our trip coming to an end.
