The issues debated upon in HSINMUN XVII reflected such Multicasuality, ranging from a variety of
problems, such as those relating to mental illness, femicide, medicine stockpiling, ethnic minorities, and
human conditions in pentitaries. As delegates faced these complex issues, they found themselves looking at
these topics through different standpoints such as the political, economic, and social.

An online conference comes with a certain weight— it means that cameras will lag, calls will shut
down, notes and amendments are left unattended, and most importantly, the Secretariat and Chairs are
exposed to a completely new platform that they must tailor to be a perfect fit for HSINMUN. To cushion
against these issues, the Secretariat team did extensive research, searching for video call platforms that
would best suit the needs for every amendment, point and note. The platform used for HSINMUN XVII
was called Cisco Webex, a calling platform that allowed the Secretariat to host 12 committee rooms and 1
Advisors Lounge for the entirety of the conference. One benefit of hosting an online conference was that the
Secretariat and working team could better monitor committees, and respond to chair and delegate inquiries
instantly rather than speed walking to their committee room as they would usually do.
At the end of the weekend, the Secretariat team is proud to say that another successful year of
HSINMUN has been accomplished, and the spirit of what Model United Nations is has been upheld.
Ultimately, MUN should be a place for middle and high school students to take a stance on pressing issues
and use discourse and constructive debate by mirroring the real life ideologies of countries around the
world. Extensive work is required not just from the Secretariat, working team, and IBSH faculty, but also the
delegates and chairs that attend, both of whom must do research and preparation in order to put forth their
best in the conference. The delegate and chair training material prepared was adjusted for online use, which
helped attendees navigate the platform and debate more comfortably.
The HSINMUN Secretariat team (Parliamentarian Mollie Cheng, Secretary General Ellen Ryoo,
Deputy Secretary General 1 Alex Chen, Deputy Secretary General 2 James Lee, Deputy Secretary General
3 Sophia Zuo) are extremely thankful for all of the external support that has gone into HSINMUN to make
the event run so smoothly. To teacher advisors who assisted and played instrumental roles in the process:
Ms. Crystal, who handled the much of the financial communication and helped with the digital platform
logistics, Mr. Krystal and Mr. Ketcham, who both helped oversee communication with other schools and the
organizational process in general,? thank you for the work and attention paid to the success of HSINMUN
XVII.? To Dr. Allen Lien, who took time off of his crowded schedule to tell the participants of HSINMUN
his inspiring story and wisdom. To the working team, all of whom consist of busy, talented students that have
taken time off of their schedules to make sure committees, the approval panel, and conference issues are
smoothly handled. Regardless of the context next year, this year’s outcome proves that despite a shift in pace,
              HSINMUN’s stride will remain unbroken.
