The Czech Exchange hosting experience was truly an eye-opening journey for me. I enjoyed getting to know all the participants,
with whom I was able to bond over our courses and cultural experiences. Considering that I was once a foreigner in Taiwan, I was
really glad to share the best parts of it within such a short time. Although with more time, I feel there is much more I can share and
help others explore. From our conversations, I have learned to appreciate the environment around me and the opportunities that the
school has provided me more than ever before.
This past week, I finally understood the importance of learning the Chinese language and cultural background. Throughout the
years, I never thought that this knowledge would come in handy for me. All along, I felt as though I was learning this knowledge
without a purpose. Looking back, I am quite proud of how far I"ve come in terms of learning and being able to teach this once entirely
new language to a new group of people. I was generally shocked when realizing the importance of building a solid foundation in
learning how to write Chinese using 部首 , the sequence of strokes, and how each word has a sound and symbol part that can be fixed
                    together to create new words.
I also would have never guessed that my knowledge of the different types of rice in Taiwan would come in handy until we
started making mochi and ate different types of rice throughout the days. Reflecting on what I was able to teach others about our
culture, I was also really excited when sharing my religious background and how much it meant for me to teach others the importance
of temples and how exactly they function.
Furthermore, as a current senior, I found it quite interesting that I was surprisingly able to balance my heavy workload with a
quite eventful weekend and extensive after-school programs. This gives me the idea that I could live an even more fulfilling life on
normal school days as well, since I was able to manage my time well.
Lastly, something that was quite shocking to me was the way people interacted on
the streets. In the past, as I am not a native speaker of Chinese, some people might have
judged me for speaking with an accent. However, as I speak English to my partner on
the streets, I have actually received quite a lot of praise for knowing another language,
and people seemed to neglect my accent.

When I was first informed that we were finally able to host the Czech students
here in Taiwan, I was excited and nervous at the same time. I was worried that me and
my partner would have major cultural differences or that it would be awkward. However,
all those worries washed away when I first got to meet her at the Orange Auditorium.
She was very friendly and easy going which made it easy for me to interact with
her. She was also very open minded and willing to try everything. Before I knew it, I
became close with her and soon she was like a big sister I never had. I really enjoyed
introducing my culture to her and seeing her surprised reactions. From feeding her with
food portions that are 2 times the size of what she normally eats, to bringing her to
scenic places, I had a blast spending time with her. The most memorable moment for me
was when she was overwhelmed by the amount of cute and cheap stationeries we had
and by the time she left, her suitcase was overflowing with cute stuff!
This program was a really enriching experience for me since she is from a culture
I"ve never interacted with. Even though we come from different countries and cultures,
we are still similar in some ways. I think this fact is quite fascinating for me. ↗兩校校長也相見歡
