國樂、弦樂、合唱三樂團 參加全國音樂比賽 均獲殊榮
本校國樂、弦樂、合唱三樂團於三月份代表新竹市參加九十一學年度全國音樂比賽,各場比賽都表現優異,連獲佳績。其中,國樂社奪得高中職團體
B 組絲竹室內樂特優,弦樂團鋼琴五重奏、鋼琴三重奏獲得優等、弦樂四重奏獲得甲等,合唱團混聲合唱獲得甲等。各樂團在指導老師的帶領下,長年利用課餘、週末的時間勤奮地練習,為個人、社團、學校、及新竹市均帶來極大的榮耀,在此恭喜團員們努力的成果一再受到肯定,也特別感謝劉江濱、蔡幸娟、魏思偉及張玉燕老師的辛勤指導!
北市建國中學與本校學生 交換訪問
為促進數理資優生認識不同學校的學習文化,開拓自己的學習視野,並和他校的數理資優生交換學習心得,台北市建國中學與本校進行跨校學習計劃。兩校各選派八名高二學生於四月二十一日至二十四日進行交換訪問。建國中學的八位學生將有三天與高二四班共度,一天全程參與雙語部十一年級課程。本校赴建國中學訪問的學生有高二數理實驗班學生六名及雙語部十一年級學生兩名。此計畫將促成兩校學生對於三個不同學習環境的認識及學習方式的激盪,在此預祝這十六位交換學生都有豐盛的收穫,也竭誠歡迎即將來到本校訪問的八位貴賓!
國小部黃可凡 新書發表會 順利成功
國小部六年七班黃可凡同學於去年暑假花了二十三天的時間翻譯了全本《夏綠地的網》。此書為美國兒童文學經典名著,作者為E. B.White。出版此書的聯經出版公司特於三月三十日下午在台北市該公司舉辦一場新書發表會。會中聯經林載爵總編輯、羅曼菲教授、新聞局李副局長雪津、本校戴校長及多位學者專家都對黃可凡的譯作讚賞不絕,引起各大媒體專題報導。本期實中園地特別登載黃可凡為這本新書所寫的譯序,與全校師生共享她翻譯、出版此書的緣由、歷程、以及生動、傳神的文筆! (請見內文第9頁) 本校圖書館業已館藏數本《夏綠地的網》,歡迎同學借閱。
國小部六年三班熱門舞群 奪得新竹市冠軍
國小部六年三班十人舞群於三月十五日參加在建功國小舉辦的新竹市兒童熱門舞蹈比賽,以充滿動感、活力的優美舞藝,從全市十五隊來自各校的菁英隊伍中,脫穎而出,奪得高年級冠軍。六年三班舞群,繼去年度有八名男生參加新竹市第三屆熱門舞蹈組比賽,奪得第二名佳績後,今年再度出擊,由十位男女同學花十天的時間編舞排練,再由該班導師余郁苹及數位家長密集指導,一戰奪魁,打敗眾舞蹈班高手,成為今年舞林新盟主。復於本校二十週年慶生會中,應邀表演,更是贏得在場貴賓、師生的一致讚賞,連連叫好!
數位設計比賽 多方位呈現實中之美
為慶祝實中二十周年校慶,並鼓勵同學培養資訊應用之興趣,本校「資訊教育發展委員會」特於三月初舉辦「實中之美數位設計比賽」。參賽者非常踴躍,共收到
112 件作品,其中極多佳作,俱以不同角度呈現實中風貌,頗見師生攝影及數位設計、影像處理之功力。評審會議是由本校生活科技與人文藝術各領域共

高中部數學競賽 邀請高中生一起玩數學
中學部數學科教學研究會與教務處定於五月十日舉辦高中部數學競賽,以提昇高中生數學學習風氣,並鼓勵團體互助合作精神為宗旨。命題範圍在於理論數學、代數、幾何及組合等四個主題;比賽項目有六人團體賽、團體思考賽及個人賽等。教師們精心設計所有題目,一定好玩,歡迎高中同學於四月二十五日前踴躍報名。國中部同學則可經由任課老師推薦參加。詳細報名辦法及競賽規則,請見教務處公佈欄。
雙語部慈善晚會 樂聲飄揚
為籌募慈善基金,雙語部少扶社及
Key Club 於四月四日在活動中心共同主辦年度慈善晚會。雙語部七至十二年級學生熱烈參予,不但購票入場,更包辦了所有的表演節目,及幕前幕後的工作。同學們一面用餐,一面欣賞舞台上同學們精采的現場表演,有樂器演奏,歌唱表演,遊戲活動等,隨後由一個小時的舞會為這場慈善晚會畫上圓滿的句點。同學們一起度過了一段充滿樂聲的美好時光,更高興能把當晚門票收入全數捐給世光教養院,為那裡的孩子們奉獻一些心力!
國小部二年級寵物展 超級可愛
國小部為配合二年級生活課程「常見的飼養動物」單元,特於四月十一日上午首度舉辦了一場別開生面的寵物展覽。從國小部一樓一直延伸到圖書館前的走廊兩側,總共有四十二位二年級的小朋友,大方的展示並介紹自己的的寶貝寵物:小狗、小貓、鍬形蟲、孔雀魚、血鸚鵡、龜及鱉等。觀賞的小朋友則在各班導師的帶領下認真地參觀各寵物,充滿了喜悅與好奇,不斷地問各樣的問題,小主人們也都耐心地一一解答。小朋友,小寵物,都可愛極了!
THREE STUDENT MUSIC CLUBS BRING GLORY TO NEHS
The NEHS Choir, String Orchestra, and Chinese Orchestra clubs represented Hsinchu City in the 2003 National Music Competition in March. Each group performed fabulously.
The Chinese Orchestra won the highest honor
possible in their category. The
String Orchestra's piano quintet and
trio each received the ranks of
outstanding achievement, while the
quartet and the choir were
awarded recognition for excellence. Congratulations to them and special thanks to all the coaches.
JIEN GUO HIGH SCHOOL AND NEHS PLAN STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM On April 21 through 24,Taipei's Jien Guo High School and NEHS will have a math and science
gifted students exchange
program which allows
the students to experience
different educational environments, broaden their exposure to science, and exchange views on learning. The eight
students from Jien Guo High School will
spend three days with the students
of H2-4 and one day with the Bilingual Department
juniors. The group of eight
eleventh graders selected from NEHS
will be comprised of six Experimental science
class students and two Bilingual
students. We believe the selected students will
have a wealth of stories to share when they come back, and we welcome
our eight visitors to NEHS.
SIXTH GRADER HUANG KE-FANG'S BOOK RELEASE GRABS MEDIA ATTENTION
Elementary Department sixth grader Ke-
Fang Huang spent twenty-three days last summer translating E.B.White's children's classic Charlotte's Web into Chinese, and her excellent translation was declared fit for publishing. The publisher of her book,
Linking Publishing Company, held a book
release for the young authoress in Taipei on March 30. During the event, Editor Lin
of the Linking Publishing Company, Professor
Man- Fey Luo, Deputy Director- General
Cher- Jean Lee of the Government Information Office, Principal Tai, and
several scholars all gave high praise
to Ke-Fang's translated work. Several major
newspapers reported the event. In
page 9 of this issue, we have
included Ke-Fang's preface, in which she
shares her translating experience in
her lively writing style. The NEHS library
has added copies of the translated Charlotte's
Web to its collection and encourages students to read the translation by their fellow student.
ELEMENTARY DEPT. STUDENTS WIN DANCE COMPETITION
On
March 19th, ten students from the class
6-3 in the Elementary Department
competed in the Hsin-Chu Children's Dancing Competition
at Jian-Kuo Elementary School and won first place. Their enthusiastic, lively,
and enjoyable routine set them apart from outstanding
teams from fifteen other schools. The team were invited to perform on school anniversary, accepting hearty applauses
for their wonderful performance.
NEHS DIGITAL MEDIA DESIGN COMPETITION HELD SUCCESSFULLY
As part of the celebration of our
20th School Anniversary, our school held
“The Beauty of NEHS Digital Media Design Competition” in
early March. Winners were chosen out
of 112 entries. The judging committee, composed of eight teachers from the
fields of science and technology as well as arts
and humanities, spent three hours
of debate before announcing the winners. The winners

HIGH SCHOOL MATH COMPETITION INVITES STUDENTS TO REVEL
IN THE WORLD OF MATH
Hoping
to promote interest in mathematics and the spirit of teamwork among
high school students, the Academic Affairs Office
will hold a high school mathematics
competition on May 10. The competition
is divided into the six-person team round, the team thinking round, and the individual round. The
thoughtfully designed problems include
material from mathematical theory, algebra, geometry,
and combinations and are sure
to provide challenging fun. High school
students are encouraged to sign up before April 25 at the Academic Affairs Office.
CHARITY NIGHT: A MOONLIGHT FIESTA
Interact
Club and Key Club co-hosted Charity Night on
April 4th in the gym to raise
money for charity. Bilingual students from grades seven to twelve participated enthusiastically, buying tickets to donate money, performing on stage, and volunteering for stage crew. Teachers and
students enjoyed live band music, instrumentals,
singing, and the “Dating Game” while
supping on pizza and chicken wings. The one-hour dance afterwards ended the evening on a high note. All donations went to Lux Mundi Nursing Home.

Elementary Department
second graders held a pet fair
on April 11th as part
of the life science “Common Pets” curriculum.
Forty- two students displayed their
pets from the first floor of the Elementary
Department all the way to the library. They brought
puppies, kittens, beetles, peacock fish, parrots, turtles …etc. The masters dutifully
answered questions about his/her own pet and each student regarded the animals with curiosity and amazement.
