DEBBIE CHANG AND OTHER BILINGUAL STUDENTS RECEIVE EARLY ACCEPTANCES TO THE TOP COLLEGES IN AMERICA

Six seniors from the Bilingual Department have received the much-sought honor of early acceptances to some of the leading colleges in America. These honorable recipients are Debbie Chang with her early acceptance to Harvard, Emily Yu with both Pennsylvania State University and Rutgers, Angela Liang with Purdue, Mindy Chou with Pennsylvania State University, Pan-Yu Chen with Knox University, and Chaussie Pan with the University of Washington. The school applauds these students for their achievements and wishes them a bright future.

ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT STUDENT YEI SHAN WINS SATELLITE-NAMING COMPETITION WITH ¡§FORMOSA II¡¨

In the national satellite-naming competition sponsored by the National Space Program Office, elementary student Ye Shan's submission "Formosa II" successfully won the hearts of the judges and received the honor of becoming the name of the second Taiwanese satellite. Along with this great honor Ye Shan received 100,000 NTD and a trip to America in January to witness the launch. 

FIRST ANNUAL SUNSHINE SPORTS COMPETITION KICKS OFF

The First Annual Sunshine Sports Competition was held in the morning of December 27 at the school gym. It was primarily sponsored by the Bilingual Department PTA and supported by the Bilingual Department and Elementary Department in order to provide proper athletic activities. Principal Wu and Bilingual Department Dean, Ms. Christine Huang, expressed their gratitude to the Bilingual Department PTA for sponsoring this event. All participants were very enthusiastic, with over three hundred students competing in basketball, badminton, table tennis, tennis, and soccer games. All participating students had a wonderful weekend and received a free T-shirt. 

ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT CONDUCTS A SERIES OF "THANKSGIVING" EVENTS

The Elementary Department decided to make December the "Month of Thanksgiving." For the whole month, teachers and students participated in a series of carefully planned "Thanksgiving Events" including telling stories and singing songs that reminded everyone to think about the true meaning of giving thanks, creating a "thanksgiving tree," and writing thank you cards. To wrap up the celebration, a Thanksgiving Party was held on December 25. During the party, many students expressed their gratitude to their teachers and Dean Tzeng Liang-huei thanked students for the warmth and happiness they brought to their teachers. This month of thanksgiving has truly made a difference in each of the students' and teachers' hearts.

THE CHINESE ORCHESTRA CLUB OF "THE NATIONAL TAICHUNG SCHOOL FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED" PERFORMS AT NEHS

On December 12, the Chinese Orchestra Club of the National Taichung School for the Visually Impaired, led by their principal Mr. Chang Tsi-chang, performed nine songs at our school gym. The club was established in 1991 in order to support musically talented but visually impaired people. After the prepared program of eight purifying and touching songs, the audience demanded an encore and the concert ended with the ringing applause of those in attendance. 

BILINGUAL DEPARTMENT CHRISTMAS CONCERT¡GA MEMORABLE EVENT

The Bilingual Department's annual Christmas Concert was held on the evening of December 20. Parents, students, and teachers gathered in the school gym and celebrated Christmas. Emcees Linda Huang, Christopher Lo, Gloria Lan, and Thomas Jeng spread the Christmas spirit to the six hundred and fifty people sitting in the audience. After hard work and practice, the performers, including teachers and first through twelfth graders, gave twelve outstanding performances including singing, dancing, acting, and tae kwon do. After the performances, everyone had a great time during the dance. The Christmas Concert was truly a memorable event.

HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT ENDS THE YEAR WITH A DANCY PARTY

On New Year's Eve, the Experimental Department Student Council held the End-of-the-Year Dance Party. Head of the student council Yang Cheng-yu, activity council head Peng Hai-rong, Sun Wan-shuan, and many other High School Department students transformed the gymnasium into a fairytale-themed dance area. At six o'clock, two hundred excited students filled the dance floor. Under the spell of "Beauty and the Beast" songs and the guidance of Principal Wu's outstanding dancing skills, the students had an unforgettable time.
