本校各部畢業典禮 敬邀畢業生家長蒞臨參加

本校各部九十二學年度畢業典禮,將於六月中旬陸續舉辦。各部畢業典禮均於本校活動中心舉行,日期時間如下:高國中部六月九日(週三18:30 ~ 21:00)、雙語部六月十日(週四18:30 ~ 21:00) 、國小部六月十八日(週五18:30 ~ 21:00)、及幼稚園部六月十九日(週六9:00 ~ 9:40) 。竭誠邀請所有畢業生家長蒞臨參與,共享生命中珍貴的一刻。

高中部羅元隆同學 獲亞洲物理奧林匹亞競賽榮譽獎

高二四班羅元隆同學,獲選為我國參加第五屆亞洲物理奧林匹亞競賽代表團選手,於四月二十六日至五月九日在越南比賽,表現優異,榮獲榮譽獎。今年共有十三國,一百零三名學生參賽,台灣代表團囊括多項獎項,在十三國參賽團隊中,僅次於中國大陸隊,排名第二。羅元隆同學資賦優異、好學不倦
,在眾高手中,表現出色,不但為自己增添了難得的珍貴經歷,更為國、為校爭光,可喜可賀!

大學多元入學方案說明會 詳盡豐富

輔導室為提供家長更詳盡的大學升學資訊,特別於五月十五日上午九點半至十一點半,在行政大樓第一會議室舉辦多元入學宣導說明會。說明會由吳校長親自主持,各處室主任出席參加。會中除由輔導室李沁芬主任介紹各項升學管道資訊並分析高三升學概況外,還特別邀請家長蔡生南女士(92級張博亭
)、溫于平教授(93級溫曉恩)以及王鳳真老師(93級劉以霖),分享其個人引領和陪伴孩子成長的寶貴經驗。在最後的綜合座談中,吳校長一一回覆與會家長所提出的相關問題,並與家長們交換意見。家長們很肯定這樣的活動,也再三感謝三位貴賓的蒞臨與經驗分享。若家長還有任何關於大學多元入學的問題,也歡迎致電輔導室(學校分機270)洽詢。

雙語部學生參加第二屆台灣小型聯合國研習營 特殊難忘

第二屆台灣小型聯合國研習營於四月十五、十六兩日在台中林肯美國學校舉行。本校雙語部共二十三名十及十一年級的學生在Mr. Keith Echerling 與Mr. Devin Kay的帶領下,與高雄美國學校、林肯美國學校及Morrison School共約八十位高中階段學生,齊聚一堂。研習營中,學生們針對國際性議題,陸續進行分組討論,更在最後各自代表不同國家進行激烈的模擬辯論比賽。本校參加學生大多認為這是很特殊的經歷,不但較為深入的瞭解聯合國的運作方式,也走出校園,結識了不少學習背景相近的朋友!

第二屆陽光青少年運動營球類競賽 勢必轟動

本校「第二屆陽光青少年運動營球類競賽」將於五月三十日星期日上午八時至十二時在活動中心及籃球場舉行。陽光青少年運動營是由雙語部家長會主辦,陳樹華及邱中正兩位老師協助辦理,每年上、下學期 (於課前及課後時間) 及寒暑假共舉辦四梯次營隊,各部學生在教練指導下一起進行網球、足球、羽球、桌球及籃球等運動訓練。此次競賽,網球、足球、羽球、桌球項目限由陽光青少年運動營隊員參加,籃球項目則特別開放給全校學生,歡迎各部男女英雄踴躍參賽。國小年段籃球比賽項目是籃下30秒投籃以及罰球線投籃;國、高中年段則為四分制三對三鬥牛賽。籃球競賽一直是本校學生非常熱中的活動,相信競賽當天勢必熱鬧非凡,精采可期。在此感謝雙語部家長會的熱忱主辦!

國小部學生感謝母親「溫馨五月情」

為慶祝偉大的母親節,國小部各年級分別進行教學活動,教師們各用不同高招引導學生深入感受母親的愛,也把對母親的愛表達出來。五年級的學生們用攝影展的方式,把自己和母親溫馨快樂的合照,加上說明敘述,於五月三日到十四日,張貼在國小部四樓教室前的展示架上;這些合照,或同遊嬉戲、或親愛甜蜜,每一幅都動人心弦,讓人不捨得移開目光。四年級的教師們亦一同設計了一系列的「我愛媽咪」活動:吹奏樂曲、童詩創作、負重行動、童言童語等。孩子們在負重行動中,從早上到校起,就得在腰間用外衣綁上三斤重的米,不論站立、坐下、上課、午休、運動、上洗手間都不能取下,一天下來,哀叫連連、妙趣橫生,直呼「媽媽真偉大」!

國二大露營 校長帶頭 鬧翻「香格里拉」

中學部於四月十六、十七兩日舉辦國二大露營,由施文彬主任帶隊,各班導師帶領共一百六十八位學生浩浩蕩蕩在苗栗香格里拉樂園進行野炊、紮營及營火晚會等活動。學生們一反平日上課考試的沉靜斯文,各個精神抖擻、花樣百出;老師們也輕鬆活潑起來,跟著學生一起天真無邪、百無禁忌。夜晚的營火晚會是重頭戲,連校長都趕來助興,帶頭點燃營火,唱歌飆舞,既瘋又鬧,老師學生玩的興高采烈
,成為國中生涯中最美好快樂的回憶!

NEHS INVITES ALL GRADUATES' PARENTS 
TO THE GRADUATION CEREMONY 

NEHS will be hosting the 2004 Graduation Ceremonies in June. Each department's graduation ceremony will take place in the gym on the following dates: High School Department on June 9 (Wed., 6:30~9:00PM), Bilingual Department on June 10 (Thurs., 6:30~9:00PM), Elementary Department on June 18 (Fri., 6:30~9:00PM), and Kindergarten Department on June 19 (Sat., 9:00~9:40AM). We hereby welcome all graduates' parents to attend and share this precious moment with the graduates.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT LUO YUAN-LONG 
DAZZLES ASIAN PHYSICS OLYMPIAD JUDGES

Luo Yuan-long, an Experimental Junior, proudly represented our school and our nation in the Fifth Annual Asian Physics Olympiad Competition. The competition took place from April 26 to May 9 in Vietnam. Luo Yuan-long performed excellently and received an honorary mention from the judges. The gifted Luo Yuan-long's notable distinctions at this year's Asian Physics Olympiad have brought glory to himself, to our school, and to the nation. Congratulations on a job well done!

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS SEMINAR 
A GREAT SUCCESS

On May 15 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, the Counseling Office of the Experimental Department held a seminar in the First Conference Room in order to provide parents with detailed information regarding multi-channel college applications. Three parents of NEHS graduates were invited to share their personal experience of guiding and supporting their children through the high school years. Parents thought the seminar was very informative and are thankful to all who shared their precious personal experience. 

BILINGUAL DEPT. STUDENTS HAVE A WONDERFUL
 EXPERIENCE AT MODEL UNITED NATIONS

The Second Annual Taiwan Model United Nations Conference (TAIMUN) was held at Lincoln American School in Tai-Chung on April 15 and 16. Under the guidance of Mr. Keith Eckerling and Mr. Devin Kay, twenty-three Bilingual Department students participated in intense discussion and debate over key international issues with approximately sixty other students from Kao-Shung American School, Lincoln American School, and Morrison Christian Academy. TAIMUN participants thought the conference was a unique learning experience in which the students not only learned the basics of how the United Nations ran but also made many new friends from similar backgrounds.

SECOND ANNUAL SUNSHINE YOUTH SPORTS 
COMPETITION TO COMMENCE ON MAY 30

The Second Annual Sunshine Youth Sports Competition is to take place on Sunday, May 30, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the School Gymnasium and Basketball Courts. The effort of the Bilingual Department parents, coupled with the skill and dedication of Physical Education teachers Mr. Chen Shu-hwa and Mr. Chiu Chung-chen, has provided students with the opportunity to promote their health and their athletic skills. Under the coaches' direction, this year's participants of the program have learned and excelled in tennis, badminton, soccer, table tennis, and basketball. The Second Annual Competition will be a chance for all the Sunshine Youth members to test their newly acquired skills.

ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT STUDENTS GIVE 
THANKS TO THEIR MOTHERS 

In celebration of Mother's Day, all grades in the Elementary Department conducted activities to show their mother's love for them and their love for their mothers. The fifth graders used photography to display their mothers' love. The fourth grade teachers designed a series of "I love Mommy" events including instrumental music, poetry writing, and many other activities. In one specific event, each student had a three-kilogram bag of rice tied to his/her belly for simulated experience of pregnancy. Finally released from the load at the end of the day, students appreciated their mothers more than ever.

EXPERIMENTAL EIGHTH GRADERS ENJOY 
A RIVETING AND MEMORABLE CAMPING TRIP

The Experimental Junior High Department took a memorable camping trip from April 16 to 17 at Miaoli's lush Shangrila Paradise Camp Site. Lead by Mr. Shi Wen-bin, Dean of the Experimental Student Affairs Department, and all of the Grade Eight homeroom teachers, 168 energetic eighth-grade students participated in various camping activities. Released from the pressure of homework and the restrictions of a typical school day, all students had a great time building campfires and enjoying the great outdoors.
