BILINGUAL DEPARTMENT HOSTS THE LINDEN EDUCATIONAL FAIR

“High Caliber, inquisitive, and affable” were words of Kathy Harrington (Director of the Linden Educational Fair) describing NEHS students. Representatives from 34 reputable American colleges shared her high regard and were excited to meet our best and brightest. Over a hundred students turned out on October 11th to seize this unique opportunity. Students mingled with Deans of Admission and recruiters, in hopes to demystify the application process and build a rapport with officials who may possibly read their applications. The Linden Educational Fair is one of the biggest and most comprehensive fairs of its type to ever visit our school; it continues to be an invaluable experience for those interested in pursuing a post secondary education in the United States. Sincere thanks offered to all those who made it a success, particularly the senior level teachers who allowed their students to attend during precious class time. We look forward to having it all again next year. (Courtesy of Mr. Karel Van B., College Advisor)

PTS HIT SHOW “MYTHS” FILMING ON CAMPUS

“Chasing After Myths”, a general science TV show jointly produced by the National Science Council (NSC) and Taiwan Public Television (PTS), filmed in our campus on the 21st and 22nd of October. “Chasing After Myths”, is the first Taiwanese show that “challenges myths with science.” Through performing experiments, they guide audiences with basic knowledge of science to judge and disprove general myths every week. In this episode, the myths in question were, “Do CD-ROMs with higher rotation rate explode easily?” and “Is it possible to replace the fan in the PC with cooking oil as the heat sink of the CPU?”   The experiments took place first in our science lab then at the LITE-ON IT Corporation in the Science Park. Two sophomore classes from the High School Department assisted with the experiments, using scientific proofs to invalidate myths and rumors. It is well in our hopes that this will shatter the drab and esoteric impression of science, and present new means for learning general science.
