Imagine
throwing on seven articles of clothing at record speed. Now
imagine sprinting 50 meters in this weird assortment of
clothing, and then stripping them off at top speed again. This
was only the first of the six obstacle courses that made up the
Amazing Race, which the student council (BDSC), Key Club, and
Interact—hosted on October 17th to welcome us all
back to school.
The twist
to the first game, Strip ‘Em Fast, made it a hilarious
sight—contestants had to run with their arms above their
heads—but also brought about the downfall of many grades. After
two laps around the track, the 6 teams, split by grade, quickly
moved on. The Hoola! called for contestants to link arms and
wiggle through a hula-hoop. Next was the Crazy Caterpillar, and
after many unsuccessful attempts, the teams, with feet bound
together like a human caterpillar, finally tripped and stumbled
their way to the finish line.
Laughing
and cheering, the crowd ran behind the teams as they moved on to
the Charades Relay. Contestants struggled to act out items like
robot, dragon, and Pikachu. In Move ‘Dem Mats, contestants
struggled to stay dry as they hopped from one mat to another,
while balancing a huge water balloon among them.
The X-treme
Wheelbarrow concluded the afternoon: Two contestants from each
team had to walk with their arms, while two other teammates held
their legs crisscrossed. And that wasn’t it!—contestants had to
eat food, like whipped cream, from plates on the track, and yell
out ridiculously-hard-to-pronounce words written at the bottom
on the plate.
The
Amazing Race was truly an amazing race to remember. The seniors
won bragging rights—and drinks—with the other grades following
close behind. Congratulations to BDSC, Key, and Interact for a
successful first activity of the year, and to all the
contestants for surviving the Amazing Race!
