Entertainment in the Classroom—Junior High
Department Hosts Fun Science Competition
On May 27 Wednsday afternoon, the 8th
grade Physics and Chemistry department hosted a competition
modeled after the Olympiad, with the hopes of encouraging
students to utilize the knowledge learned in the classroom to
solve problems. Contests include: rubber-band-powered car, Volt
Battery, King Solomon Ring, Mission Impossible, Windmill, and
Bernoulli’s Principle. Each class sent two representatives to
compete, and students not on the team could challenge others in
individual contests. In the end, Junior High 2-5 “Geniuses Stand
Out!”, 2-1 “Alpha Power,” and 2-2 “Yili and Max” won the
championship; the individual races also picked a winning team.
This activity has been going on for 4 or 5 years now. Every
year, teachers get together to come up with fun and challenging
problems and students eagerly learn, and everybody looks forward
to it.
