Ms. Katy O'Briant

I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and had the opportunity to live in many beautiful places in California. After taking time off from school to marry and raise two wonderful sons, I finished my college education at the University of Houston and then taught English at the local high school in Magnolia, Texas for three years before wanderlust struck me and I decided to seek out an overseas teaching position. I love teaching and traveling and so teaching abroad is the perfect job for me. This adventure marks my first visit to Asia and also my first time to live on my own. I hope it will also be the opportunity for many other lessons and experiences. I am excited to be joining such a diverse and dedicated staff and to have the opportunity to work with so many wonderful students.

Ms. Grace Lin

Salutations! My name is Grace Lin and I am from sunny California. I still find it unbelievable sometimes that I am living in Taiwan, of all places, and teaching at IBSH. My love of traveling and teaching coexist in the perfect mix - what more could I ask for? As much as I grumble about the daily grind of my profession, I always chuckle and smile over the ridiculous little things that I overhear from the kids. The IBSH family is simply amazing, and I am having a ball getting to know my colleagues, room parents, and kids. My family is originally from Taiwan, so I am excited about coming back to learn about my roots and being immersed in all that this rich culture has to offer.

Ms.Hannah Miller

I’m from the United States (Orlando, Florida…home of Disney World, sunshine, and gators), and I have a bachelor’s of science in elementary education from the University of Central Florida. I am one of the current IBSH Grade One teachers. I love: canoeing, SCUBA diving, running, biking, hiking, swimming, taking part in manual labor service projects, ultimate frisbee, coffee, reading, journaling, fellowshipping with friends and family, laughing, and playing the guitar. My favorite book is Captivating by John and Staci Eldridge. Current personal goal: run a half marathon in two hours. My current spiritual goal: start studying the Bible more in-depth. My favorite subject in school was: Physical Education. My favorite subject to teach: Science. My favorite animal: the lion. What I love about Taiwan: how dedicated the Taiwanese are to recycling, the mountains, and extremely kind people. The thing I miss most about home besides friends and family: my church and canoeing down my favorite Springs river. My favorite food: peanut butter sandwich. What I love most about teaching: making learning fun and helping my students think critically. Random fact about me: I can do the splits.

Ms. Sheryl MacLeod

My name is Sheryl MacLeod and I am very excited to be joining IBSH this year. I am originally from Nova Scotia, Canada but have called Taiwan home for the past 12 years.I am a graduate of Dalhousie and St. Francis Xavier Universities, and have been teaching since 1996. Before joining IBSH, I taught in Hsinchu and Canada. This year marks my return to the classroom after 3 years in Administration. I believe that the classroom has to be a place where everyone is comfortable and willing to learn. I want my students to love coming to school. This year will be an opportunity for my students and I to learn and grow together. For leisure I enjoy hiking, reading, and spending time with my family. We enjoy traveling through Asia and seeing the beautiful scenery in Taiwan

Ms.Lory Peroff

Aloha IBSH! My name is Lory Peroff. I am very happy to be the new fourth grade Humanities teacher. My husband and I just moved to Taiwan from Hawaii where I taught as a fifth grade teacher for 4 years. ?Prior to teaching in Hawaii, I taught in many countries all over the world including Uzbekistan, Tonga, and Ghana. In addition to my passion for teaching and traveling, I truly enjoy reading new books, running, swimming, and surfing. I am so pleased to have moved from one beautiful island to another. ?In Hawaii, we greatly value our “ohana” which means family. ?I look forward to learning and growing with my new IBSH ohana.

Ms.Joanna du Toit

My name is Joanna du Toit and I will be 3B’s homeroom teacher for this school year (2010-2011). I am Canadian and I have taught for more than five years in various Asian countries and most recently, I spent three years teaching at Hsinchu International School. I believe in establishing an interesting and supportive learning community within my classroom and I will ensure that each student experiences encouragement and mutual respect in my classroom. I anticipate a fun-filled year that will challenge students to do their best as we embark on this rewarding journey of learning together.
