Happy 29th Birthday NEHS!!
On March 21st, NEHS celebrated its 29th
anniversary. The ceremony began with the wind orchestra
performance of lively melodies, followed by the Principal's
opening speech. Gifts were presented to the teachers who have
been in this school for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years respectively
to thank them for their hard work and contribution. Shortly
after, the performances began with the Elementary Department's
class 507 with the song ¡¨Warm Warm,¡¨ the dance competition
champion class 601's entrancing dance tracks, and the cute
kindergartners' dance, causing the crowd to break out in a huge
round of applause. The ceremony ended with performances from the
Bilingual Department's charming and mesmerizing D.Co,
enthusiastic Cheerleaders, and CBC's breakdancing. The school
anniversary continued on with a charity fair with booths selling
various items. The library also held a book fair and an
exhibition titled ¡§A Plan to Cultivate Creativity for the
Future¡¨. The Elementary and Middle School Departments homework
display caught the attention of many teachers as well as parents
and guests. The food from exotic cuisine workshops also caused
many watery mouths. Big thanks to the Administrative Bureau's
vice director Du Qi Xiang for wishing for the school to enjoy an
even brighter future and to achieve success in its plans for
school's expanion. (Please look to Page 15 the list of teachers
that were awarded.)
High School Senio's and Junior's Class 4
Unite to Win Silver Medal in Hsu Yo-Xiang's Physics Debate Cup
Senior’s Class 4 Bo-yo Chen, Yi-xiang Hsu,
Wei-Chi Huang, and Yi-xin Shih joined forces with Junior’s Class
4 Zi-yi Wang to enter the Hsu Yo-Xiang’s 4th Taiwan Young-Student
Physicists Tournament (TYPT) and to win the silver medal in this
national competition. In TYPT, high school students must solve
complicated science problems, then present them in a convincing
fashion to be debated during the “Physics Fights.?Instructor
Yi-fan Lai pointed out that the participants required
outstanding English and Physics skills as well as determination
and perseverance. The participants stayed after school to work
to complete the 12 experiments required by the competition. Then
they recorded, organized, and analyzed the data to complete
their report. The open-ended topic and the fact that the debate
was held in English made this competition was an extremely
challenging one. Congratulations to the participating students
and many thanks to the teachers who were so helpful.
NEHS Receives Special Recognition from the
Ministry of Education (2011 Disaster Prevention and Campus
Construction programs)
In order to implement the Campus disaster
prevention plans, our school reviewed the disaster prevention
check records and previous drill in order to make the best
preparation in case of emergency. Now we have a systematic
management and are able to amend our campus Disaster Prevention
and Response Program. NEHS received special recognition from the
Ministry of Education in the 2011 Disaster Prevention and Campus
Construction programs. Not only did we compose an actual script
based on major disasters that have occurred recently, but we
also developed a systematic response for different situations of
the disasters. By having drills and speeches , NEHS has become a
safe learning environment for students.
School Homogenization Scheme Hosts the
Teachers¡¦ English Learning Workshop and Student Broadway English
Music Drama Camp
In order to enrich the high school English
teachers' professional knowledge and ability, to enhance the
professional growth of teachers and teaching effectiveness, and
to construct a regional inter-school strategic alliance learning
system of peer support and teacher partnership, NEHS is
undergoing a School Homogenization Scheme by hosting the "Read
Like an English Teacher" workshop. This workshop will invite
IBSH teacher, Mrs. Ruth Poulsen, as a lecturer. The workshop
focuses on reading short stories and also shares the experience
of English teaching. The workshop is conducted in English. In
addition, to enhance high school students?English listening,
speaking, reading, writing, and application ability, the
Homogenization Scheme will also go through a four-week English,
"Broadway English Music Drama Camp.?This camp will invite IBSH
teacher, Ms. Marina Lin, as an instructor. The camp will present
an adaptation of the musical “Miss Saigon.?While learning
English, the participants will also learn how to sing in the
musical. (See page 15 for details.)
The Guidance Office Will Hold a Series of
Life Goals Discovery Activities
The Guidance Office will hold a series of
life goals discovery activities this semester. The first will be
the ¡§Dream Bulletin¡¨activity held from March through April,
which encourages 3rd-year junior high students to boldly declare
their wishes for the next half year. Teacher Bingchun Wu has
been leading students during guidance class to use words and
pictures to illustrate their life aspirations in order to help
them organize their education goals and increase their
motivation to learn. He encourages students that, as long as
they are willing, they should ¡§believe in themselves and give
everything their all.¡¨ Soon after the¡§Stories of
Dreamers¡¨activity which will be held on April 11. This activity
invites parents and community leaders from many career paths to
visit 2nd year junior high students during a Wednesday afternoon
to introduce their careers and share their thoughts on them.
Among the careers represented are business management,
publishing, community planning, food and drink (restaurant
service), creative writing & literature, and the biomedical
fields. Next, there will be a ¡§Viewing Garden of Dreams¡¨
activity, bringing NEHS 8th graders to various vocational high
schools to experience courses geared towards career paths and
discovery. This is done in the hope that students will better
understand the technical and vocational education system and
make better plans for their lives in their last year of junior
high.
