Seniors Shine in Year 102 University Entrance Exams

The Year 102 University Entrance Exam score was release on February 20th; our school has 142 graduates taking the exam. Despite increase in the difficulty in math and science subjects and decrease in number of students receiving full score, two of our students still managed to thrive in this challenging circumstance and received full score (seventy-five points). Furthermore, twelve received seventy-four points, fifteen received seventy three points, and at the same time eighty four percent of our students received national topmark sixty six points, in comparison to less than eighty percent last year. Thank the teachers for their guidance and eternal love and congratulate the seniors who have received high marks in the exam. Wish the class of 2013 to have a smooth transition to their dream colleges.

IBSH inaugurated the E.W.Scripps¡¦s national Spelling Bee

This is IBSH¡¦s inaugural year to join the E.W.Scripps¡¦s 2013 National Spelling Bee. It is a prestigious annual U.S. spelling bee contest that has its roots dated back to 1925 and has several movies, books, and documentaries made about it. A total of 101 of our hopeful students from 4th - 8th Grade signed up and after two rounds of competitions it dwindled down to three finalists - two 6th Graders (Dana Chiueh, Clara Fang) and one seventh Grader(Ninnie Chiang). As IBSH is the only school island wide that has joined this competition, the three finalists from our school will represent Taiwan and will fly to Shanghai for the third and fourth round of competitions against the schools in China on March 23. There, they will join approximately 40 other finalists and in the end, only one student will remain standing. That winner will be the representative of the ¡§Greater China Region¡¨ and continue his or her journey at Washington, D.C., U.S.A. and compete against the best of the best from around the world as well as the best spellers from American schools across the U.S.A. They will all compete in the Finals to be the eventual champion speller, which will all be televised in the US on ESPN.

Professor Cheng from NHCUE Giving Speeches

To be in line with the features enrollment, our school's "Plan for Fostering Imagination and Creativity" has invited Professor Hong-Fei Cheng from the National Hsinchu University of Education to give speeches on February 27 and March 6. The topic will be "Professional Growth and Action Narratives of Teachers". Also, Professor Cheng will lead participant teachers in 5 action study workshops, in order to solve problems in education on-site and encourage teachers' professional development through sharing their thoughts. Professor Cheng emphasizes that this "Action and Narrative study" requires an experience of action to be the target of study. The purpose of the narrative is to recreate the action experience and, through questions and feedback from peers relying on mutual trust, enable the researcher to change his/her point of view and create a force of action. This cross-department interdisciplinary workshop will undoubtedly allow teachers to actively develop their professional education skills.
