Congratulations to the Newly
Elected PTA President, Mr. Edward Huang
The first Parent-Teacher
Association (PTA) meeting of the 2014 school year occurred on
October 13, during which elections were held for new committee
members. The parents voted to select 31 new committee members,
from which 9 members were further chosen to serve on the
standing committee. Mr. Edward Huang, a parent of the Elementary
Department, was elected as the new PTA president, while Mr. Lin,
Ms. Huang, and Mr. Chen, Ms. Peng and Ms. Liu were elected as
the Deputy Presidents, and Ms. Chuang was elected as the
treasurer. The handover ceremony is scheduled for the opening
ceremony of the school¡¦s Field Day, 11/15. We thank Mr. James
Lee and the committee members of the previous year for their
dedicated contributions to the school, and hope that the parents
of NEHS will continue to support the school under Mr. Edward
Huang¡¦s presidency to sustain the cooperative synergy between
parents and teachers. (For a detailed list of PTA members,
please refer to Page 2.)
HSINMUN Steps Into Its Tenth Year
First hosted by the Bilingual
Department in October of 2005, HSINMUN is now entering its tenth
year. Over the ten years, the magnitude of HSINMUN grew from 5
participating schools in Hsinchu with 80~90 participants divided
into only two committees and councils (ECOSOC and Security
Council) to 25 participating schools from all around the island
(including Taipei American School, National Hsinchu Senior High
School, American School in Taichung, and National Tainan First
Senior High School) with more than 450 participants divided into
seven committees and councils. Topics debated include: The
Ukrainian crisis, the South Sudan conflict, mining safety, and
illegal exploitation of natural resources. What was special
about HSINMUN this year was that Mr. Chen, an experienced lawyer
from the Pamir Law Group, was invited to give a speech. Mr. Chen
spoke very highly of the participating students and affirmed our
school’s efforts to help students develop their worldviews with
this event.
Dr. Jane Goodall Visits NEHS for
the 2014 Animal Parade
The 2014 Animal Carnival Parade was
hosted at NEHS on November 2nd, 2014. On the day of the
carnival, Principal Christine Huang represented NEHS to greet
the 80 year-old Dr. Goodall. Along with 60 other student
representatives from the Senior High School Department and IBSH,
Principal Huang enjoyed lunch with Dr. Goodall and participated
in a 40-minute seminar afterwards. At 3pm, Dr. Goodall joined
1500 other representatives from 40 other organizations in the
colorful and festive animal parade, which started from NEHS and
included a Samba Drum performance. Principal Huang led the NEHS
and IBSH students around Lake Placid and the Science Park during
the parade. Costumes such as the stingray and the jellyfish were
sighted during the carnival. After the carnival ended, Hsinchu
City Mayor Ming-Tsai Hsu signed a cooperation agreement with Dr.
Goodall at the NEHS Field in hopes of promoting animal
protection within Hsinchu in cooperation with the Hsinchu City
Zoo. After the signing, Dr. Goodall engaged in a short
discussion with carnival parade participants, providing an
appropriate closing for the event. The Elementary Department’s
Television/Multimedia group further used this chance to conduct
an interview with Dr. Goodall, leaving her a fantastic
impression of Taiwanese students.
IBSH Students Win Four Bronze

Primary School
Fifth and sixth graders ( §d«aß»¡B³\µq´Ë¡BªLªé¼Ö¡B³¯ð¤¸©)
from International Bilingual School from Hsinchu Science Park
attended the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for
Primary School (IMSO), which took place from October 5th to
11th, and won four bronze medals. Following the tradition of
having a different host each year, the IMSO was hosted in Bali,
Indonesia this year. With participants from over fourteen
different countries, Taiwan hosted friendly puzzle games, which
was enjoyed by many participants. IMSO’s mission is to provide an
opportunity for students to interact and further develop their
mathematical and scientific potentials. The English-based
competition includes math and science tests, including multiple
choice, experimental questions, and lab questions.

School Library Book Exhibition in
November
To cooperate with the ¡§2014 Animal
Carnival Parade¡¨ and ¡§Meet-and-Greet with Dr. Jane Goodall¡¨ held
at IBSH in early November, IBSH set the ¡§Who Turned the Donkey
Into a Zebra¡¨ book exhibition, which was planned by Middle
School Department teacher Shu-Jen Hong, Elementary School
teacher Wen-wen Yang, and IBSH teacher Katherine Liu, into
action. Using ¡§What I Learned From the Animals¡¨ as the theme,
the Middle School Department arranged books on animals, in hopes
that the school can observe the relationship between humans and
animals with a broader viewpoint. The Elementary School
Department, on the other hand, used books related to ¡§Who Turned
the Donkey Into A Zebra¡¨ to entice students to use special and
multiple perspectives to think about a topic. With ¡§Beyond
Beauty - Taiwan From Above¡¨ and other documentaries and book
series on display, IBSH hopes to emphasize the importance of
humans and the land and environment and motivate students to
take action in caring for the environment and animal welfare. We
thank the school library for their help in purchasing books, the
workers and volunteer mothers for their help in setting up the
exhibition. We sincerely wish that everybody will make good use
of the once-in-a-lifetime chance to go to this thematic book
exhibition and walk into the library expecting a special Animal
Carnival Parade!
