The overall program was fairly satisfactory, since it provided numerous opportunities for NEHS and IBSH students to interact with Aizu Gakuhou High School students. In addition, the nuclear reactor tour and the Drosophila brain cell research presentation in Tsing-Hua was intriguing.

I learned of the cultural differences between Taiwan and Japan. Although communication was challenging, we were able to converse without any major problems. Adding on to that, some of the female students exuded an alluring and enticing aura, while the male students were fairly interactive as well. This catalysed to the bonding between the IBSH students and the Fukushima students. Being able to take pictures with the adorable and Kawaii schoolgirl excited the male students.

Despite the overwhelming positivity within the program, there are still some flaws present. The food provided was generic and could be improved by offering unique and locally-oriented food. In addition, the NEHS students could reciprocate during the cultural exchange by introducing the specialties of Taiwan.

I feel that the program was overall successful. However, I feel that we should be given more time to interact with the students from Fukushima. Besides that, I can say that I have learnt many things from this program, especially from the trip to National Tsing Hua University. I like how the University experimented on fruit flies in order to examine a simpler brain cell with the superior technology within the Universities in Taiwan. Another thing I found meaningful was when the students come to have classes with us. I am honored to be the translator for them in class when they could not understand what the teacher is asking. Also, it made our students learn about the devastating results of the 311 earthquake. After this program, I observed that Japanese students are more shy compared to the students in Taiwan. However, I feel that the students are interesting and have a different perspective in looking and thinking about things. The more I talk to them, the more I want to know about them. One guy I met was really interesting and unlike all the others, he was more active in interacting with us. His name is Hayato Ogura, he is in the baseball team in his school. He is really devoted to baseball that he decided to shave all his hair and broke up with his girlfriend. In all, this awesome experience would really be a nice memory to me.

Nao Takahashi (Fukushima)

The program helped me to think about future of living things. So I got interested in reviving extinct species by the program. I could develop logical thinking through the debate. Experiment is so interesting. Thanks to Taiwanese friend’s explanation, I could understand principle of the experiment. Through the program, I found my English skill is low. I was encouraged to study English hard. I could enjoy speaking with Taiwanese friends. I had a great time in the program.

Natsume (Fukushima)

Chemistry program is very interesting. I want to do “golden rain” again! I’m glad to do interaction between us and Taiwanese friends. We can’t speak and listen to English very well, but Taiwanese friends are very kind to talk with us. Thanks to them, our training is very good. If I had a chance, I want to take a class with Japanese friends and Taiwanese friends in English.

Ogura Hayato(Fukushima)

I enjoyed debating in English class. Although it was difficult for me to debate in English, I tried to express my ideas. Taiwanese students spoke English fluently. I was very surprised. I really enjoyed visiting National Experimental High school in Taiwan because I made a lot of friends. I learned the importance of English.
