Hotels are the ideal place to spend your holidays at.
The moment you enter, you are met with fancy furnishing,
friendly service, luxurious amenities, and delicious food.
However, behind the smiles of the employees and the
comfy sofas are hard grueling work. In order to maintain
the quality of service, hotel managers have to deal with
many issues and things that can be hard to handle. Ms.
Eva Wu is a hotel manager currently working at Hotel
Royal in the science park that shared with us some of her
experiences in her occupation.
Wu started with the disapproval of her parents, but she still decided to continue her path as a hotel
manager. As the hotel manager of Hotel Royal, Wu is faced with numerous tasks to complete each day. As
hotel manager, she is in charge of quality control and quality assurance. This means that she is responsible
for the products and services produced and provided by the hospital. When a mistake happens, such as when
a bug appears in someone’s breakfast, she has to immediately fix the situation and protect the hotel from any
further complications. Another task that Wu has to do for the hotel manager is customer relations. Wu said
that at Hotel Royal “the customer is our first priority”, which means that Wu has to ensure that customers
are satisfied with their stay at the hotel. One example she provided is when a loyal customer of Hotel Royal
arrived for dinner. The staff and managers remembered his birthday was on that very same day, and treated
him with a complimentary cake and everyone sang happy birthday to him. Wu described it as her favorite
aspect of her job. The last and most important duty that a hotel manager has to do is management. Wu has to
encourage her staff and ensure that they are working efficiently and with a smile on their face.
In career hotel management, they help customers and provide services for people who go to their hotel.
They manage everything in the hotel and help people who have problems in the hotel. The staff there has to
deal with many different types of customers, sometimes they have irritated customers and receive offensive
comments from them. The staff have to have great personality and social skills, for example, they have to be
considerate, compassionate, patient, active, and kind towards their customers no matter how rude they are.
These characteristics are significant for being a hotel manager so that they can please their customers.
Hotel management or a job at the hotel is not what it seems like on the outside, even though it seems
like a high pay job it is not and you have to deal with bad customers and deal with accidents like Covid-19;
you should only work as a hotel manager if you have the passion. In conclusion, being a hotel manager is a
daunting but rewarding job. Even though you have to complete many tasks and manage lots of people, you
get to see customer’s happy faces at the end of the day.
