畢業典禮 隆重舉行

本校九十一學年度各部畢業典禮分別於六月十一日 (高國中部) 、六月十二日 (國小暨幼稚園部)及六月十三日(雙語部) 晚間六時三十分起在小操場隆重舉行。典禮會場由雙語部金仁初老師帶領多位同學設計佈置,要為同學在實中的美好回憶再添一章。典禮中,戴校長、在校師生、及家長都將為畢業班同學獻上深深的祝福和期許。離情依依,祝福無限,本刊也特地為這群即將離校的同學製作畢業專刊,祝福畢業同學們展翅高飛、前程遠大。

實中校園網頁即將呈現新風貌

扮演校園e資訊流通角色的實中網頁,即將於6月中旬展現新風貌。新版網頁不僅外觀樣式煥然一新,在網頁資訊的更新管理介面上,更提供分層管理、線上維護之功能,使行政資訊的呈現更加即時效率;在使用者互動介面上,除了瀏覽畫面改良為多層次的框格架構,並增設網站論壇等線上互動功能,期能廣納家長及關心實中朋友們的高見美意,使實中創新超越的辦學理念得以永續經營。實中校園網頁網址:ttp://www.nehs.

管樂社期末發表會 樂聲悠揚

本校管樂社七十位社員在沈明尚老師指導下,於六月八日星期日晚間在小操場舉辦一場別開生面的戶外星光音樂會,跟全校師生一起分享一學期來努力的成果。當晚演奏的曲目有真善美、加勒比海組曲、Holst第二組曲等十首大家耳熟能詳的流行樂曲。樂音悠揚,準確流暢,引得觀眾在夜空下陶醉神往,進入一個美好的管樂世界。終場由安可曲龍貓的樂聲以及觀眾熱烈的掌聲,為這場發表會畫上一個完美的句點。在此感謝沈老師的辛勤指導和家長的大力支持,也恭賀社員們勤奮的努力練習所達到的美好境界!

高二數理實驗班 專題研究發表會 有趣深入

本校高二數理實驗班專題研究成果發表會,於六月三日下午一至四時在第一會議室舉行。發表會中共有十一組同學,分別針對各小組一年來在化學、數學、生物、物理等領域中所做的主題深入探討,以口語或壁報方式發表他們的發現及研究歷程。報告中,主題明確,研究踏實,表達清晰有趣,具體呈現實驗班學生認真投入、靈活創新的特色。特此感謝施建輝、陳金楓、馮蕙卿、黃善暉老師的深入指導!

國小部資優資源班 畢業作品發表 豐富圓滿

今年國小部資優資源班畢業作品發表會,共分三場次,以小規模發表方式進行。第一場是數學專題發表
,主題有「星陣大對決」、「最佳全翻位探討」、「手套消毒了沒」等;第二場語文組,以網頁發表「鐵窗內的故事」,專題探討更生團契從事監獄輔導工作,幫助受刑人重建生命的真實故事;第三場由自然組發表「 讓你擦得乾淨 」及「 螞蟻雄兵 」,會後並放映資源班活動剪影及朋友「MTV」。每一場次發表內容都豐富、精采,學生們將四年所學及歷程,做最完整的呈現,讓與會者對這些資優小尖兵們讚賞有加,祝福他們不斷地往前邁進。

國小部畢業活動 熱鬧滾滾

國小部六年三、五、七共三班,原計劃五月中進行兩天一夜的畢業旅行,因SARS疫情被迫取消,致另規劃一天的校內活動替代。國小部特於六月七日在一樓綠地廣場舉辦歡樂唱跳的團康活動,三個班級的導師余郁苹、徐素貞、麥淑瑛特別邀請七位團康高手來帶領全場的活動。有帶動唱、團體競賽、大地闖關活動、清涼有勁丟水球、大廚師野炊、還有high翻天的晚會活動,從早上九點一直進行到晚上九點,同學們不但又叫又跳又鬧,更展現了多方面的才華,共同創造了一個難忘的實小回憶。

雙語部烹飪課 期末成果發表 色香味俱佳

雙語部廣受歡迎的選修課程:生活藝術之烹飪課於六月七日下午四至七時,在音樂教室前廣場舉辦期末成果發表會。本學年共有二十一位九、十年級的學生修習這門課程。他們在王秦俠老師的指導下,將一年來學到的烹飪本領,一一施展出來,合力負責當晚所有以夏威夷風味為主軸的菜色:除了香噴噴的現場烤肉為主食外,更有好看又好吃的沙拉、甜點、果汁、餅乾零食等,所有食物飲料,完全不假手他人,全部都是學生們巧手自製,而且好看又好吃,果然讓老師、家長讚不絕口,刮目相看!

雙語部戲劇社年度公演 師生共賞

雙語部戲劇社分別於六月五日晚上五時三十分及六月六日晚七時三十分在網球場舉辦戲劇社年度成果發表,各演出Canned Hamlet及Slightly Left of Paradise兩齣戲。這次公演由雙語部戲劇社指導教師Ms. Evelyn Bendick指導二十位九年級學生擔綱演出。參與演出的同學勤練多時,用心揣摩角色表情;幕後的同學絞盡腦汁,準備了幻麗服飾以及精緻舞台,為全校師生獻上努力的精采成果,果然贏得觀眾一致的讚賞及喝采。

A TIME OF PARTING ARRIVES FOR THE CLASS OF 2003

The Class of 2003 graduation ceremonies for the High School and Junior High School Departments, the Elementary and Kindergarten Departments, and the Bilingual Department are to be held at 6:30 p.m. on the evenings of June 11, June 12, and June 13 respectively. A committee of Bilingual Department students led by Mr. Ray Chin did the decorations. Principal Tai, parents, and students alike will shower the graduating students with words of blessing. We would also like to wish the Class of 2003 well as they embark on the next stages of their life and continue their journey in this world.

NEHS WEBSITE LAUNCHES WITH A NEW LOOK

The NEHS website will emerge in mid-June with a new face. The new site will not only appear differently but will also have new features to improve the efficiency of website maintenance. With the new features, administrators will be able to update more frequently, increasing the informativeness of the site. The new site will also have more frames for the convenience of browsers. A forum will be set up for all to express concern about NEHS issues, in the hope that NEHS will become a better place. Check it out at http://www.nehs.hc.edu.tw.

WIND ENSEMBLE END-OF-YEAR PERFORMANCE
RINGS WITH THE SOUND OF MUSIC

Lead by Mr. Min-Shun Shen, the NEHS wind ensemble held their annual end-of-the-year performance on Sunday, June 8. Due to the recent SARS outbreak, students and teachers decided to hold the event outdoors under the stars, in the small oval in front of the flagpole. They enraptured the audience with The Sound of Music, Caribbean Variation, Holst's The Second Suite for Military Band, and other familiar melodies. The evening ended blissfully in the midst of the tune from Totoro, the chosen encore, and enthusiastic applause. Let's give another round of applause to congratulate Mr. Shen, the parents who helped make this possible, and the members of the wind ensemble for their success!

HIGH SCHOOL GIFTED PROGRAM
PRESENTATIONS: OUTSTANDING

Students of NEHS gifted math and science program held their end-of-the-year presentations in the first conference room from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 3. Eleven groups of students, including chemistry, math, biology, and physics concentrators, did in-depth reports on their research topics of the past year. The presentations showed clear topics, thorough research, scientific thinking, and used visual elements well, fully expressing the intellect and creativity of NEHS gifted students. Special thanks to Mr. Chien-Huei Shi, Mr. Chin-Fong Chen, Ms. Hei-Chin Feng, and Mr. Shun-Hei Huang for their instruction.

ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT GIFTED PROGRAM
PRESENTATIONS END SUCCESSFULLY

The Elementary Department gifted program displayed the results of their learning in a presentation that lasted  three sessions. The math, the language, and the science concentrators in turn went onstage with their presentations. Afterwards, photos of the gifted students in class and at work were shown, thus concluding the four years the children spent learning together. The presentations earned deserving praise from all who were in the audience. We hope these promising young students will continue to find motivation in the future and to fulfill  the potential

that has been recognized in them.

ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT GRADUATION
 FESTIVITIES ROCK THE CAMPUS
Three sixth grade classes of the Elementary Department originally planned a graduation trip for two days and one night, but due to the SARS outbreak, the trip was cancelled in favor of a day of on-campus activities. Teachers Yu-Ping Yue, Shu-Chen Shue, and Shu-Ying Mai invited seven “professional group activity leaders” for a fun-filled day. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., students participated in sing-alongs, group competitions, games, water balloon matches, and a barbeque. During the exciting activities, students got a chance to reveal their hidden talents. Amidst all the reveling, many lasting memories were created. Everyone had a great time!

ART OF LIVING CLASS PRESENTS A MOUTH-WATERING DELIGHT
Students of the Bilingual Department's popular elective, art of living, held an end-of-the-year cooking exhibition to show the results of a year's hard work at the grill. Twenty-one students from the ninth and tenth grades worked with teacher Terry Wang to produce a feast of barbequed meat, salad, tasty pastries, homemade juice, cookies, and other delights that just kept teachers and
parents wanting more!

DRAMA CLUB END-OF-YEAR PRODUCTIONS WIN LOUD APPLAUSE

At 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on the nights of June 5 and 6 respectively, the Bilingual Department Drama Club brought to a theater near you , the tennis court , their end-of-the-year productions of“Canned Hamlet”and“Slightly Left of Paradise.”Ms. Evelyn Bendick and twenty ninth graders spent hours rehearsing and understanding their roles, while many other students were helping with designing costumes, and setting up props. The encores and enthusiastic applause at the end of the show proved that their hard work had indeed paid off.
