九十三學年度　熱鬧迎新

八月三十日是本校開學日，在高國中部及雙語部合辦的開學典禮中，本校校友陳怡君所屬「蜜雪薇琪」合唱團體的演唱為九十三學年揭開了活潑的序幕。為歡迎新學年、新同學及新進教師，各部均熱烈辦理迎新會：九月十日，高中部學聯會舉辦烤肉及迎新晚會；九月十五日幼稚園部由全園的實習老師特別穿著繽紛的動物造型裝扮，為小朋友表演了一齣生動感人的戲劇「友情出租」；九月三十日國小部在活動中心舉辦大型迎新活動，由六年級的大哥哥姊姊牽著一年級新生的小手進入會場，校長致贈禮物，並有多項精采的音樂舞蹈表演活動；十月十五日晚上雙語部高年級則在多功能教室舉辦電影欣賞、卡拉OK及小型迎新同樂會，熱情歡迎轉學生。在此祝福大家快樂融合，共同創造充實美好的實中歲月！(認識新老師，請見內文3-5頁)

家長魏明珠女士捐款設置賴敏中先生紀念獎學金

本校家長魏明珠女士為紀念其夫賴敏中先生並鼓勵本校學生並重學業及體育，特於九月初捐出新台幣三十萬元整，在本校設置賴敏中先生紀念獎學金，自民國九十三學年度起，每學年頒給三位學業及體育表現兼優之學生，每位新台幣壹萬元獎學金。賴敏中博士生於民國四十一年，今年五月猝逝於台北市六號水門外足球場，享年五十二歲。賴博士生前熱情真摯，深受家人朋友愛戴，工作上曾當選九十二年度十大傑出工程師，公餘之暇熱心體育，關愛學子，多年來從不間斷，陳樹華老師敬稱其為「熱心義工賴爸爸」。我們深深懷念賴爸爸，也感謝魏女士在傷痛之中，還推愛實中學子。獎學金申請資格、辦法及審查方式，將公佈於本校電子公佈欄。

思源大賽 高中部學生囊括金、銀牌大獎

由思源科技教育基金會主辦的2004年思源科技科學統合創意大賽，總決賽於八月二十八日在逢甲大學育樂館舉行，共有北、中、南三區共十六隊，從參加初賽的六十四隊高中職隊伍脫穎而出，通過各地區複賽，參加最後角逐。本校高中部吳家宇等八位學生勇奪全國金牌及十萬元獎金；王皓平等七位同學亦不遑多讓榮獲銀牌獎及六萬元獎金。另外，在數學專題競賽部分，陳昱衡等四位同學，打敗各路高手
，榮獲金牌及特別獎，並獲頒五萬元獎金。今年暑期這些學生在林秋月、施建輝及陳惠珠三位老師的的指導與啟發下，積極投入骨牌、數理與科學實驗研究，充分發揮專注沉穩、努力不輟的科學研究精神與態度，終為自己及實中贏得極大的光榮! (得獎名單詳見榮譽榜)

台灣區TRML數學競賽 高中部學生榮獲銅牌及優等獎

本校高中部學生蘇皓瑋等十五位學生參加第六屆台灣區TRML數學競賽，榮獲A組團體賽銅牌獎；王渝浦等十五位學生則贏得思考賽優等獎。此競賽活動是由財團法人九九文教基金會主辦，競賽內容分團體賽、思考賽、個人賽及接力賽四項，於八月二十一日及二十二日兩天在台灣大學新建巨蛋體育館舉行
。今年總計有五十五所學校、一百一十六支隊伍、二千五百六十五名學生參賽。本校兩支隊伍在莊添丁及顏貽隆兩位老師的指導下，積極勤奮，獲此佳績，特此恭賀! (得獎名單詳見榮譽榜)

高國中部劉柔希何應佑 全國科學競賽露鋒芒

高三四班劉柔希同學由揭維邦老師及馮蕙卿老師指導，以「見光死蘆薈薄膜的光抑菌作用」為題的專題研究，參加第四十四屆全國中小學科學展覽，榮獲高中生物組佳作。國三四班何應佑同學獲選為第一屆國際國中學生科學奧林匹亞競賽國家代表隊選手，將與其他五位選手，經過輔導培訓，於十二月五至十四日，代表台灣赴印尼雅加達參加此國際競賽。兩位同學在科學研究上已建立紮實的基礎，在此預祝劉柔希同學進入理想的大學科系，何應佑同學在培訓過程收穫豐碩，並為個人、學校及國家爭光。

全國科展 國小部資源班學生榮獲數學科佳作

國小部劉如加老師於九十二學年指導四位六年級畢業班學生段凱文、梁廷宇、羅子瑞及黃蛟晟進行數學專題研究之作品「王位繼承人」，於四月中參加新竹市科展，榮獲第一名，並獲晉級於六月中參加由高雄縣教育局主辦之第四十四屆全國中小學科展比賽，通過四位口試評審委員嚴格的初審及複審，於全國精英中脫穎而出，榮獲國小組數學科佳作，殊屬難得。在此感謝劉如加老師的辛勤指導。

Covenant Players 短劇表演 活潑生動 引人入勝 

雙語部邀請 Covenant Players 劇團共三名團員於十月十三日為全雙語部五百多位師生，以三個年級為一組，各帶領五十分鐘的表演及活動。當日上午十時起至下午三時，共分四個時段，在雙語部多功能教室演出以尊重、自律、誠實及責任為主題的迷你劇以及延伸活動。 Covenant Players 劇團是一群環遊世界之美籍教育表演者，在活動中以幽默逗趣的短劇表演，以及即席互動方式，引導學生觀察、思考、討論
、並找出較為妥適的方法，來處理生活週遭切身的事情以及人際關係，並間接教導學生如何紓解壓力並與人溝通。今年是此劇團第三度應邀來實中表演，三位教師表演者的演出與活動，除了受到學生們熱烈的喜愛，也給教師們帶來深刻的討論與省思。

2004~2005 SCHOOL YEAR OFFICIALLY STARTS

The new school year's opening ceremony took place on August 30. To welcome the new students and teachers, all departments held eventful parties; EDSC organized a barbeque for new students on September 10 and the Kindergarten Department teachers dressed up in animal costumes and held a play for the students on September 15. The Experimental Department hosted a welcoming ceremony for the first graders on September 30 and the Bilingual Department hosted a”Social”on October 15 that included a movie, karaoke, and games.We hereby wish everyone an enjoyable time working together to make this a great year! NEHS PARENT ESTABLISHES COMMEMORATIVE 
SCHOLARSHIP 

NEHS parent Ms. Wei Ming-chu donated $300,000 NTD to set up a scholarship in NEHS in attempt to encourage students to pay equal attention to studies and sports and to commemorate her husband, Dr. Lai Min-chung. Starting this year, annually, three students with high marks in both athletics and academics will receive a $10,000 NTD scholarship. Dr. Lai Min-chung, born in 1952, suddenly passed away this May during a soccer game. Dr. Lai was deeply loved by family and friends alike and was awarded as one of the ten National Outstanding Engineers in 2003. Even though Dr. Lai was often busy with work, he still showed great concern for both athletes and young students by being a volunteer for many sporting events. We fondly remember Mr. Lai, and thank Ms. Wei for setting up this scholarship for our Junior High and High School students. 

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WIN GOLD AND SILVER
MEDALS IN CREATIVITY CONTEST

This year, NEHS High School Department Students, led by Wu Jia-yu and Wang Hao-ping, brought home both the Gold and Silver Medals in the ”National Spring Soft Comprehensive Creativity Competition”, sponsored by the Spring Soft Education Foundation. This competition was held on August 28, and our teams were chosen out of an initial number of sixty-four teams island-wide to compete and triumph in a final group of sixteen. In the Math category, Chen Yu-heng and three other classmates pulled through to win a Gold Medal and an Outstanding Performance Award. These students deserve our whole-hearted encouragement and admiration for their prowess and perseverance!

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS RECEIVE BRONZE MEDAL 
FOR TAIWAN REGIONS MATHETMATICS LEAGUE

Upon entering Taiwan's Sixth Annual Taiwan Regions Mathematics League Math Contest, high school student Su Hao-wei and 15 other students were awarded the bronze medal. Wang Yu-puu and 15 others won an Outstanding Performance Award as well. TRML, which was sponsored by the Nine Nine Cultural and Educational Foundation, took place on August 21 and 22 in the recreational center of National Taiwan University. There were a total of 2565 students in 116 teams, representing 55 schools. Under the supervision of teachers Juang Tian-ding and Yan Yi-long, the students' passionate determination earned them outstanding achievements. 

 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE 
IN NATIONAL SCIENCE COMPETITIONS

High School Senior Lui Rou-shi was awarded with the "Great Accomplishment" title to her research paper when she entered the 44th Nationwide Science Fair. At the same time, 9th grader Ho Yin-yo has become one of the six representatives of Taiwan to participate in the International Junior-High Science Olympiad, to be held in Indonesia in December. We are very proud that both students have established a firm basis for scientific research. Best wish to Lui Rou-Shi on entering her first-choice college and we also wish Ho Yin-yo great personal growth as well as the great glory he will bring to our school and country! 

ELEMENTARY STUDENTS WIN OUTSTANDING 
PERFORMANCE IN NATIONAL SCIENCE FAIR

Four sixth grade graduates of 2003 Resource Class of the Elementary Department, Duan Kai-wen, Liang Ting-yu, Luo Zi-ray, and Huang Jiao-shen, entered their project into the Hsinchu City Science Fair during April and received the First Place. Their project also won an Outstanding Performance Award in the National Science Fair after they passed two difficult interviews. Special thanks go to the supervising teacher Ms. Liu Ru-chia for her guidance!

COVENANT PLAYERS PERFORM IN 
BILINGUAL DEPARTMENT

Three members of the Covenant Players visited the Bilingual Department on October 13 and performed short skits for the entire department. From 10 am to 3 pm, students grouped by grade were entertained by plays and activities that taught them to observe, ponder, and talk about the world around them. This is the third year that the world-traveling teachers group has performed at NEHS, and their compelling illustrations of respect, self-discipline, truth, and responsibility have made them a source of interest and discussion among teachers and students.
