全校運動會 爭取榮譽 團結歡樂

本校九十三學年度運動大會，在全校各部學生摩拳擦掌、積極練習數週之後，於十一月十三日（周六）上午八點十分舉行開幕式。開幕式中各部準備了精采的表演節目：高國中部以「戰鬥有氧操」展現力與美的結合；幼稚園部的小朋友們表演「熱力四射」的大會舞；雙語部則以啦啦隊表演呈現出無以倫比的青春活力。當日除了進行各項正式比賽的決賽項目之外，十時二十分國小部、雙語部、幼稚園部同時舉辦各部的趣味競賽，下午二時三十分更有來賓、志工團員以及教職員工個別組隊、共同參與的滾輪胎趣味競賽。認真專注的比賽、活潑有趣的玩耍讓校運會充滿了合作競爭與歡樂交流的熱鬧氣氛! (賽程詳見第三頁)

黃昉鈺女士當選本屆家長會會長

九十三學年度第一次家長代表大會已於十一月三日舉行，並進行委員改選，選出委員三十一名，繼由委員中推選常委九名。最後由國中部、國小部家長、國聯光電集團副執行長兼聯嘉光電公司總經理黃昉鈺女士在全體常委推舉下，榮膺本屆家長會長。新舊任會長訂於十一月十三日交接。感謝江滄炫會長連續兩年來對本校的熱忱服務與諸多貢獻，並恭喜黃昉鈺會長當選。

艾莉賑災 實中全校總動員 熱烈響應

八月中旬艾莉颱風重創新竹縣山區，本校吳校長立即率領行政同仁以實際行動積極協助災區的學校與學生，不但數度上山瞭解災區學校狀況，更頻與各處室主任挑燈夜戰、研商規劃協助事宜。全校同仁同心合力、分工合作，不但動員全校師生家長募捐款項，更採購、組裝、運送山上亟需之用品，並帶領五峰鄉桃山國小的小朋友至竹南老郭樂園做一天的校外教學。賑災募捐活動於十月底結束，，共募得新台幣七十四萬四千六百四十四元及書籍一千三百八十冊，捐款分別轉撥五峰國中及桃山國小，圖書則轉贈尖石、嘉興國小以及尖石國中。在此感謝台灣積體電路製造公司在第一時間響應贊助帽子一百五十頂
、三洋旅行社贊助校外教學多項支出以及所有家長、師生的熱情關懷和慷慨奉獻。賑災及募款收支詳情請見內文第四頁。

李家同教授 蒞校演講英語教學

前暨南大學校長李家同教授以理工博士之專業素養及慈善博愛之人文關懷，除長期奉獻於大學教育工作，並以多本著作反映關懷社會上之弱勢族群，近年來更致力於國內初、中級英語教育之觀察、省思及建言，並已出版數本英語教學書籍。國小部輔導室特別邀請李教授於十月十一日下午蒞校，演講：「
如何學好英文」。這場演講吸引了兩百多位家長及教師，擠滿了多功能教室。李教授以淺顯的例子與豐富的語言說明充實字彙與加強基本文法為學習英語的不二法門，並再三強調基本功夫的重要性，讓全場聽眾重新思考英語「教」「學」的方向與態度。

獅光盃竹市足球錦標賽 雙語小將榮奪亞軍

由新竹市竹光獅子會所舉辦的第一屆獅光盃足球錦標賽於九月底至十月中的週末在國立交通大學足球場舉行，本校雙語部李炳承等共十六位四、五、六年級學生所組成的隊伍，於六支參賽隊伍中，脫穎而出，榮得亞軍。十六位隊員在林惠琇、陳靜芳等多位家長的全力支持下，主動積極，勤奮練習，辛苦的汗水終於換得勝利的光榮! 我們為這十六名小將喝采，也深深感謝家長們的熱忱付出! （詳細隊員名單請見榮譽榜）

高國中部志工團 校運會日舉辦系列活動 歡迎熱烈參與

本校高國中部「歡喜園丁」志工團，響應教育部及新竹市政府推動學習型組織方案，並配合校運會
，舉辦系列活動以介紹及加強全校家長、教職員對志工團的瞭解與參與。校運會當天，志工團團長施清玲女士特於正午十二時至下午二時在第一會議室主持 Open House，邀請全校師生家長及社區人士參加瞭解志工團事務；上午十一時至十二時段安琪組長於同地點，邀請志工及住校生家長，進行親職座談會；下午二至三時副團長兼活動組組長洪秋桂女士，在運動場帶領志工團員組隊參加全校趣味競賽。在此感謝所有熱心奉獻的「歡喜園丁」志工們，以智慧與熱忱，陪伴、帶領教職員及家長不斷成長，更讓全校學子一同受惠。

推動「高中職社區化適性學習社區」本校舉辦人文學科研習活動

為積極推動高中職社區化適性學習社區，本校特別舉辦「社會人文經典閱讀」系列以及「史傳散文的人生智慧」兩場人文學科研習活動。「社會人文經典閱讀－『資治通鑑』研習」是由國立清華大學歷史研究所教授張元博士應邀主講，自十月二日起八個週六上午九至十二時於國文專科教室，為本社區各校教師及本校高中部文組學生，深入講述司馬光編著之『資治通鑑』。「史傳散文的人生智慧」研習活動，由國立交通大學董毓葳教授主講，於十一月十六日下午一至四時，專為本社區之國文科教師，從豐富的中國文學切入，暢談玄妙的人生智慧。秋收季節，兩位大師親臨實中，授課講學，果然為實中師生及社區教師帶來一番豐收!

SCHOOL-WIDE FIELD DAY: GOING FOR THE 
GOLD, UNITING FOR HAPPINESS

After weeks of intense training and competitive preliminaries, the school's long-awaited Field Day finally took off on November 13. Beginning at 8:10, the opening ceremony, a joint effort among all departments, was a panorama of performances. The Junior and Senior High's invigorating aerobic exercise, the Kindergarten's effervescent dance, and the Bilingual Department's cheerleading stunts impressed crowds with unrivaled spirit. In addition to the usual ongoing finals of numerous track and field events, the Elementary Department along with the Bilingual and Kindergarten Departments also held fun-filled activities beginning at 10:20. Then, beginning at 2:30 in the afternoon, guests, volunteers, and teachers formed teams and participated in fun-filled activities. The dedication and concentration of the athletes, as well as the fun and lively games added to the harmonious atmosphere of joyful interaction and collaborative competitions. 

MS. HUANG FANG-YUE ELECTED NEW PTA PRESIDENT

The Annual NEHS Parent Representatives Meeting was held on Nov. 3 and thirty-one new PTA committee members were elected. Ms. Huang Fang-Yue, the Vice CEO of UEC Group and the President of Excellence Opto. Inc., was elected by all standing PTA committee members to become the new PTA President. Congratulations to President Huang and special thanks to former President Jiang for his contribution.

NEHS COMMUNITY GIVES WARM HANDS TO 
SCHOOLS SUFFERED FROM TYPHOON ALLIE

In Mid-August when Typhoon Allie hit the mountain area of Hsinchu County, Principal Wu immediately rallied up help for the schools and students in the area that had suffered the most damage. The entire school cooperated and worked hard to help these schools. Not only did teachers, students, and parents contribute monetary donations and charitable items, but they also led the Jianshih Township Tao-Yuan Elementary School children to Junan Lao-Guo Park for a one-day field trip. When the disaster donations drive ended in the end of October, a total of 744,644 NTD was received and donated to Wu Feng Junior High School and Tao Shan Elementary School, and 1380 books were sent to Chia-Hsin Elementary School and Jianshih Junior High School. We hereby thank Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), San-Yang Travel Agency, parents, students, and teachers for their generous contributions and support.

PROFESSOR LEE CHIA-TUNG VISITS NEHS AND 
GIVES A SPEECH ON ENGLISH LEARNING

Former Principal of National Chi-Nan University, Dr. Lee Chia-Tung, who is also a speaker for the rights of ethnic minorities and a leading advocate of public welfare, has shifted gears to educating parents, teachers, and students on how to correctly learn English. On October 11, Professor Lee came to our school and hosted a seminar on “How to Learn English,“ attracting two hundred odd teachers and parents. Through his well-tested didactic methods and emphasis on reinforcing the student's academic fundamentals, those who attended were given an enlightening experience on how to master the English language.

BILINGUAL ELEMENTARY STUDENTS WIN 
SILVER IN CITY SOCCER TOURNAMENT

The First Annual Chu-Kuang Lion Club Soccer Tournament was held between mid-September and October at National ChiaoTung University. NEHS Bilingual Department student Vincent Lee and fifteen others in grades 4, 5, and 6 competed with great enthusiasm in six tournaments against five other teams and triumphantly won second place in the final match that took place on October 17. Under the endless support and encouragement from the parents, these students finally basked themselves in glory. Once again, many thanks to the parents and congratulations to the soccer team!

”HAPPY GARDNER”PARENT VOLUNTEERS 
HOLD ACTIVITIES ON FIELD DAY

The parent volunteer group, Happy Gardener, of the Junior and Senior High School Departments held activities on the school field day in response to the Hsinchu City Government's promotion on Learning Organization. An ”Open House”session was scheduled to invite schoolteachers, students, parents and people from the surrounding community to understand what the Happy Gardeners do. Thanks to all the ”Happy　Gardeners”for their contributions!

NEHS HOSTS LITERATURE AND HISTORY 
STUDY SEMINARS

In order to vigorously promote High School community learning experience, NEHS held Social Humanity Classics Reading series and Life Wisdom from Historical Essays Chinese seminar. The first lecture series invited Dr. Chang Yuan from National Ching-Hwa University as the main speaker and it started from October 2 for eight Saturdays. Dr. Dong Yu-Wei from National Chiao-Tung University will present the second lecture on November 16. NEHS students and teachers are honored to have these two masters come and teach these lectures.
