ELEMENTARY
CHOIR AND BILINGUAL SKIT PPLAUDED AT 2006 ENGLISH-FRIENDLY
ENVIRONMENT FAIR
The Elementary Department
Choir, directed by Ms. Hsieh and Ms. Shih, together with the
Bilingual Department’s cultural skit, directed and performed by
Ms. Eva Chen and 4 seniors, Cindy Chang, Kelly Kuo, Amy Hsu and
Lucia Hsieh, were invited by the Ministry of Education to
perform at the Taipei 101 building on November 30 for the 2006
English-friendly Environment Fair. First on stage was the
cultural skit about possible misunderstandings resulting from
cultural differences when foreigners visit Taiwan. Despite the
intense academic pressure and the deadlines of the college
applications, the Bilingual seniors put on a great show in a
would-be Broadway style, performing how people of different
cultures can learn to understand, accept and appreciate one
another. Following their performance, the angelic faces and
heavenly voices of the recently assembled Elementary Choir
mesmerized the audience to their final note. Both performances
won a roomful of applause, including from Principal Wu, who sat
in the audience for moral support.

BEAT CONCERT
2006 A COLLABORATED SUCCESS OF FIVE HSINCHU SCHOOLS
The 2006 Beat Concert took
place on the evening of November 17 at the Gym. In addition to
the enthusiastic NEHS students from both the High School and
Bilingual Departments, there also were performers and audience
from the Hsinchu Senior High School, Hsinchu Girls?Senior High
School, Chien Kung Senior High School and Chutung Senior High
School. All the performers brimmed over with enthusiasm and the
spirit remained high both on and off stage until late at night.
The annual Beat Concert, now in its eighth year, has been an
exemplary effort of cross-department collaboration. It was truly
touching to see how it magnetized music lovers from other high
schools and connected the young hearts beyond the boundaries of
school walls. Thanks to the hard work of the EDSC (Experimental
Department Student Council) and Interact and the support of the
principal and the chaperoning teachers. May next year’s Beat
Concert bring even more joy to everyone!

ELEMENTARY AND
BILINGUAL 4TH GRADERS RECEIVED FIRE-SAFETY PASSPORTS
The Hsinchu city Fire
Department issued Fire-safety passports to the 4th
graders of both the Elementary and the Bilingual Departments on
November 17 and 24, after a thorough introduction to fire safety
that was packed with excitement and fun. For two mornings, the
fourth graders met with fire-fighters and fire trucks, including
an earthquake simulation truck and ambulance truck, at the flag
circle. Several fire fighters with their gears set up six
checkpoints for fire safety awareness and skills. In the
process, students acquired the knowledge, operated the fire
extinguisher, took a descending ride from the height of 2nd
floor on the emergency gear, operated a fire hydrant, learnt how
to exit a smoke-filled room, and received professional CPR
training. Thanks to the fire-fighters and the supervising
teachers, our NEHS fourth grade students are now better prepared
for fire emergencies of life.

STUDENTS AND TEACHERS HOSTED ITORS FOR A WEEK
Ten students from the
Affiliated High School of National Chengchi University,
accompanied by English teacher, Ms. Wen, spent a week at the
Bilingual Department immersing themselves in the language,
curriculum, culture, and friendship of the Bilingual Department.
This was a new challenge for both the visitors and the hosting
sophomores and juniors and their teachers. Thanks to the
meticulous efforts of the Bilingual administrators, also thanks
to Ms. Wu, the military instructor of the High School Department
who helped with the dormitory arrangements. We hope to build
this experience into a pattern of communication and a long-term
friendship between the youngsters of both schools.

"BRIDGING
THE TOWN AND COUNTRY" ELEMENTARY 5TH GRADERS
VISITED NAN JUANG
Fifth grade students and
teachers of the Elementary Department went to the Nan Juang
Elementary School in Miaoli County on a mission of
"bridging the town and country" in education through
various activities and exchange of experiences. Nan Juang
students welcomed our fifth graders with their renowned
lion-drum performance, followed by an aboriginal dance.
Afterwards, with the instruction of Nan Juang’s drumming coach
Mr. Liu, the NEHS students played with the drum sticks and
enjoyed the fun. More games later on lead the students of both
schools to sweat and laugh together, having weaved the day into
a sweet memory for both town and country.
