Principal and Volunteer Moms Send Blessing to Seniors

During noontime of the first school day of 2009, Principal Wu and the Dean of the Academic Affairs, Mr. Chung, gave all the seniors a steamed bun, a glutinous rice dumpling and a cloth made glutinous rice dumpling accessory. Dr. Wu reminded all the seniors to eat the bun before the glutinous rice dumpling*, and to hang the cloth made glutinous rice dumpling accessory, which was handmade by the volunteer moms. One can also carry the dumpling good wish charm in pocket or hang in one’s study rooms for good luck. These accessories carried the blessings of all the teachers, parents, and friends, who encouraged the seniors to study harder in the hope of seeing great results in their upcoming college entrance exams.

A group of volunteer moms gathered to produce one hundred and twenty rice dumpling accessories in the span of three weeks. Each accessory was meticulously made by hand and had a wishing paper attached for each student to write on. Then the dumplings were further adorned by Chinese knots, creating a meaningful good luck charm.

* Steamed buns and rice dumplings are a pun in Chinese. In this case, it means “a guaranteed university acceptance.”

This event greatly moved the Elementary parents and teachers, who generously donated many items that took two big transport trucks!
