CITY-COUNTRY CULTURAL INTERCHANGE BONDS IBSH AND KOUHU JUNIOR HIGH

Nineteen IBSH High School students from Chinese Level 5 Class visited Kouhu Junior High School in Yun-Lin County on May 18th, lead by Principal Huang and teachers Ms. Tiffany Chen and Ms. Helen Jou. Located in a remote, seaside area, the Kouhu residents have to survive the resource-depleted status quo on a daily basis and fight the seasonal unforgiving floods that often leave the area as wetlands. Such severe challenges in turn nourished their unyielding spirit and inspired their positive outlook on life. The IBSH students learned about their tenacity and courage, wrote to express their admiration and thus started a lovely friendship. On May 18th the IBSH students and teachers were welcomed by Kouhu’s Principal Wu, Director Hong and the lined-up singing students at front gate. The highlight of the day was when the two principles lead the students to plant two cherry blossom trees in front of the old church, symbolizing the beginning of a perpetual friendship. Great appreciation to all for making this meaningful event happen. May this beautiful friendship continue to grow and last forever.

After the proposal being approved, the class then put it into action and accomplished it by May 21st with a final report. This project was done once in 2006 with a tremendous success. This year teachers hope to further encourage students to integrate good character building into daily life.
