Spirit Week

IBSH Janet Jiang

Held by BDSC from March 16th to March 20th, this year’s spirit week was one for the books. This year’s themes were quite challenging but fun to participate in -- the classics, pajama day and twin day, were on the rotation, as well as never-seen-before themes like Disney day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Throwback Thursday. Up for grabs were bean bag chairs and a pizza party, and students were more motivated than ever. Anyone who dressed up with at least three items that fit the theme would earn a point, and students could earn extra points by representing their grade in games held during lunch.

The points were quite close at the beginning of the week, but by Thursday the juniors and eighth graders had formed quite a lead. However, it was anyone’s game, and people weren’t discouraged -- there were enough points allocated to the egg hunt that if a grade had collected nearly all the eggs, they could win even if only a handful of people dressed up that week. Many people showed up to the egg hunt on Friday afternoon, and at the end of it the winners were revealed. The eighth graders had won by a landslide and the freshmen came in second, followed up closely by the juniors. Although it passed by fast, the week truly showcased our panther pride. This year had one of the highest participation rates in our school’s history, with nearly half of our student body dressing up each day and teachers getting in on the game as well. If it does happen to be the last school-wide event due to corona, at least it was a great one. :)))
