Spirit Week

2020 ~ 2021 School Year New Student Lottery Conducted by Live Webcast
The New Student Lottery takes place every April and May, with thousands of parents and students anxious to know the results. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Epidemic Command Center has taken measures to prevent large gatherings. NEHS has thus decided to move the lottery online to avoid group infections. Preparations include an examination of the priority candidates, the lottery signature sheet review, and the signing process. The school has also done mock lotteries and set up broadcasting equipment. Relevant staff members will practice the process multiple times before the event and strive to conduct lottery operations in a fair, just and open way. The new student lottery was successfully completed in early May; we’d like to give a huge thank you to the hard working staff members and individuals who came to assist in the event.

Bilingual Department Spirit Week
Every year the bilingual department student council (BDSC) hosts spirit week to bring teachers and students together. Each day there is a specific theme with designated dress codes and group activities. This year’s themes were PJ, St. Patrick’s, Twin, Throwback, and Disney. Spirit week allows IBSH students and faculty to use their creativity and design costume, and the varying activities allow students to showcase their talents and demonstrate their passion and spirit. ( For more information please see p.5)

Elementary teachers’ professional seminar
Throughout the past few years, the elementary department has continuously adjusted the form of professional seminar in order to fit the needs of their teachers. At the beginning of every semester, the elementary department teachers discuss ideas about the professional seminar, and the faculty promote their community plans through morning meetings or on paper. Each teacher is required to select a professional seminar to partake in. This semester, there were three communities -- animation, science, and Hsinchu history. Through this program, teachers were able to sharpen their teaching styles and methods, and it appears to be effective.

"Hsinchu Studies" Course Hosts Activity -- Understanding the Meinong Hakka
As part of a program to learn more about Hsinchu, the Bilingual Department invited retired teacher Ms. Wenrong Li to talk about her book, "The Meinong Grandma." Both Ms. Li and her editor, Ms. Yiyu Hsu, are our school’s retired teachers, making the speech all the more sentimental. In the book, Ms. Li talks about her family’s story, connecting it with her love for Hsinchu and admiration for the resilience of traditional Hakka women. The accompanying illustrations are drawn by Mr. Wuyi Tong, a local painter from Hsinchu. His drawings showcase the culture of the Kaohsiung Meinong: wicker chairs, blue shirts, blue dyes, and oil-paper umbrellas. Ms. Li writes about the sincere emotions between mothers, daughters, and grandparents, meticulously recording the history of the Meinong, leaving behind precious historical knowledge.

NEHS Workshop Cultivates Students' Soft Skills
In order to cultivate students’ multifaceted potential and broaden their perspectives, the Middle School Academic Affairs Department hosted the "Experimental School Workshop," inviting experts in various fields to teach students in the form of workshops. In accordance with the 2019 learning theme of self-motivated learning and presentation skills, the workshops on presentation and communication abilities were specifically selected to lead students in creating their own posters and practicing speaking skills. For the workshop on presentation skills, the Academic Affairs Office invited Mr. Jiaan Zhu, the founder and visual designer of Anchr Report, to teach students the critical skills in creating presentations. The workshop on communication skills focused on oral expression, with the school inviting Ms. Yirou Lin to share with the students the teaching system she designed, hoping to improve students' interpersonal relationships and enhance their presentation abilities. Thank you to the Academic Affairs Department for planning such a practical workshop, improving the soft skills of students!
