This slash this slash that. That... is the job of a slashie. While there are so many career options that sometimes, and choosing
one specific career can be a hard decision to make, so there are people that do multiple jobs at a time, also called a “slashie”. It
isn’t fixed, it isn’t stable, it is completely based on the events leading up to this. Educated with only the vast knowledge of Google,
Jackie Lin jumped from one career to another. From design to filming to management to even translator and voice actor, Lin leaped
from career to career, interest to interest, dreams to success. According to Lin, there are three important things about being a slashie,
learning about information for jobs, googling things to train themselves, and enjoying the process of a flexible career experience.
Since the meaning of “slashie” is a person with multiple jobs which means you can pretty much have any job possible on
the face of the planet. In this case Lin has 16 jobs. These include filming, graphic design, coding, makeup artist, be a reporter,
management, translator, voice actor, web design, video editing, digital archiving, librarian, rapping band management, college
teacher, toilet fixer, and light fixer.
Lin shared that his passion for computer science started in middle school, By being bullied by his peers made him want to learn
psychology, liked singing and performing on stage has led him to work in the music industry. Lin took on many majors throughout
his time in college. In college, his main major was computer science. He also took psychology, designing, and communication arts,
and engineering. Other than the skills he learned in college, he learned many skills on the internet. Although the speaker learned these
wide range of majors, it really comes down to what type of slashie you want to be in the future. As a slashie, it is important to learn
many skills and have a good understanding of them to the point where you can start charging people.
With that said, one important part about being a slashie is learning about all the information you need to do these jobs. The first
way of learning various things is through school. According to Lin, the slashie in programming, designing, voice-acting, music band
managing, and many more, he claimed that he studied different subjects throughout his high school years and college years learning
skills that are drastically apart from one another. The second skill is to go to classes such as the speaker went to special classes to
learn more about voice acting. Lastly, there is everyone’s best friend, Google. Lin says that to use Google and to use Google well, are
two different things. Google can help one learn about different skills for different tasks too.
In terms of the value of life for being a slashie, you need to actually like what you are doing or it will be hard for you to
continue on. You also need to be good at what you’re doing and be persistent and willing to try new things and have a flexible
schedule, you can’t be stubborn or have a hard to manage schedule. And most importantly you must enjoy what you do and be ready
at any time to try new things and solve any problems that may come in your way.
As a slashie, they should acknowledge that Google is very helpful, important, and influential, as it could help with
understanding more about the careers and jobs one could work for and could learn more than fifty percent of the things one should
know about. They should also be open to different jobs and ideas and work for it, they could try different things to have more
experience and knowledge on what they are interested in. One should not overwork / work overtime or force themselves to do
something that is not enjoyable. There are many things to do in order to maintain being a slashie such as gathering information and
enjoying the careers. Slashies can also find jobs that interest them by learning about it and seeing if they enjoy it through first hand
experiences. Throughout time, it will be worthwhile to gain valuable soft and hard skills.
