      Bilingual Department  Spirit Week

Grade 11, James Yang

A multitude of students watch from the side as two teams position themselves on the field, all eyes
riveted  on  one  tiny  object.  That object is a Frisbee. Silence. Tension. Excitement. Suddenly,
everything  springs  into  action  as feet trample the dusty field and tumultuous shouts echo in the
     air. Spirit Week had begun.

Despite  what  outsiders  may  say,  a special pride  and  unity  exists among Bilingual Department
students.  For  a  week  every  year,  BDSC organizes a week of competitive activities aimed to
promote  camaraderie  between  Bilingual  students.  Each day of Spirit Week involved dress up
guidelines and a lunchtime competition with teams split according to grade. Dress-up rules varied
    from  day  to  day  as  students alternated between wearing beach attire and formal dress clothe;
then dressing up as twins to dressing up as movie characters. Meanwhile, lunchtime competitions
are  organized  individually  by  clubs  including Key, YUP, VPC, Interact, and BDSC. Key and
BDSC hosted intense physical games of Ultimate Frisbee and Capture the Flag. Interact's water
balloon toss ended  in a  frenzy of water balloons that drenched both competitors and spectators
alike.  On the other hand, VPC and YUP organized a Movie Bee and a Music Bee respectively.
Continuing the Bilingual tradition, the seniors of 2001 emerged victorious after an action-packed
    week of fierce competition.

Apart  from  being  fun and exciting, Spirit Week provides Bilinguals with the opportunity to freely
express  themselves  in  the form of competition and class unity. To top things off, prizes of Spirit
Week includes a bowling party for the seniors, pizza and ice cream parties for 2nd and 3rd, and
plenty of popcorn for the rest! Bilingual pride? You bet!
