Welcome New Teachers!

Bilingual Department

Hi, My name is Dana Su (蘇惠君)  and I'm the new life science teacher in bilingual department. I received my bachelor's degree from National Taiwan Normal University and master degree from National Taiwan University. I completed teacher's internships in Taipei Municipal Long Shan Junior High School and I'm very glad to be teaching at NEHS. I enjoy exploring everything about nature and designing activities for students to learn with fun. I'm willing to teach students and learn from and with all of my students, parents, and colleagues here.

Greetings to NEHS students, parents, and faculty. My name is Aubrie Nielsen, and I'm excited to have joined the staff here as the new third grade Humanities teacher. I am originally from Redondo Beach,California, and I stayed in Southern California to earn my degree in Communication Studies with a French minor from UCLA. I have taught second and third grades in the Los Angeles area for four years, and I am excited to be working with third graders again in Taiwan. In my free time I enjoy ballet, yoga, writing, and crafts. Thank you all for sucha warm welcome to both Hsinchu and the school community.

My name is Jeff Nielsen, and I am the new fourth grade Humanities teacher. The NEHS parents, teachers, and students have been incredibly welcoming already, and I am looking forward to an excellent school year. I am a native of California. I received my degree in Psychology at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and then took a position at a Montessori School in the area. Realizing that I love teaching, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a credential, and then spent four years teaching in Los Angeles. My hobbies include basketball, surfing, cooking, and traveling, and I look forward to continuing these as well as developing new interests here in Taiwan.

Ms. Brandi Christie Ni hao! I am very excited to be here in Hsinchu. So far, the students, the parents, the administration, and my fellow staff have been so welcoming and supportive and, for that, I am very appreciative. The students here, thus far, have proven to be smart, creative, and hard working, and I know we will accomplish much together. Prior to moving here, I was working in a junior high school, teaching Language Arts and Reading, in East Harlem (Manhattan). Before that, I taught in the Amana Colonies and on a Meswaki settlement in Iowa. Five years ago, I began teaching English and Geography, in a middle school and high school, in Lesotho, Southern Africa. This year, at NEHS, I am the seventh grade Humanities teacher and the Drama teacher. I am
excited to learn, travel, and work in Taiwan, as well as meet new people and eat lots of tasty food.

Mr. Ron Azoulay Shalom! I am the new first grade teacher and it is an extreme pleasure to be here as part of the NEHS bilingual department. I am from Israel, and have been a traveling man for the past 6 years. I have lived in Iowa, New York City, and now, Taiwan. My students have been teaching me many new things, and I can already tell that this is going to be a memorable experience.

Hello from the Lamirands. We are a Canadian family from Vancouver. My name is Rod and I am teaching Humanities 6. Stacey, my beautiful wife, teaches Humanities 2. Our kind-hearted and wonderful daughter, Kirstie, is in grade 9 and our little man, Spencer, grade 3. On them falls the greatest weight of our hopes to learn to speak Chinese; on us the pleasant responsibility of focusing our family's energies toward exploring the wonders of Taiwanese culture and the geography of this most beautiful island. Our international experience also includes teaching in Muscat, Oman in 2001/2002. Please stop us and say hello if you see us.

Mr. Charles Hart Since Illinois is paying my family an annual salary to make sure I never teach in that American state again, I am very grateful NEHS and Taiwan is willing to give me another chance at teaching. Having taught in Singapore while it was experiencing an economic revolution and South Africa while it was experiencing a political revolution, I feel especially blessed to be a Social Studies teacher in Taiwan while this island nation is in the midst of its economic revolution and perhaps on the eve of its political revolution.

Ni Hao! My name is Joyce Orobello and I am a new English teacher at NEHS. Although a native New Yorker, my studies in literature and writing have taken me to the Sand Hills of North Carolina, the peaks of the Italian Alps, and back home again to complete my MA in English Education at Columbia University. I then taught in New York and China, and the brief time I have spent at NEHS seems like a bridge between those two very different worlds. Although my students already know I'm nuts about literature and writing, I also love to put on my play clothes and get them as dirty as possible, be it on the hiking, running, or biking trails. My other interests include traveling, lazing about in my hammock with a book, and, most recently, getting lost while weaving in and out of Hsin Chu traffic (with hopes of discovering the city's hidden nooks and crannies). My students also know that I consider learning to be an academic adventure, and I am looking forward to the many adventures we will be embarking on together.
