7TH INTELLIGENT IRONMAN CREATIVITY CONTEST   NEHS WINS DOUBLE GLORY

The final competitions of the national and international Intelligent Ironman Creativity Contests, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, took place on July 26 at Chang-jung Unversity in Tainan. The NEHS team, formed by six High School department juniors Da-bang Wang, Bang-yen Guan, Da-zen Hsu, Jan-hsien Gu, Yen-hao Chen and Yo-jieh Cheng, brought home double glory. They not only won the championship of the National contest but also took the bronze medal at the international competition, winning a total of $6500 USD as scholarship. The topic this year was “Phoenix Rising from the Ashes”. Contestants must think from both the seemingly controversial angles of innovation and inheritance, taking a traditional guild or product and give it new life. The NEHS team selected Hsinchu’s failing traditional industry, glasswork, and designed new ways to present it, an innovative idea that greatly impressed the judges. The number of contestants reached a new high this year. The intense competition and the 72-hour non-stop final project put contestants’ intellectual and physical abilities to the test. NEHS came out with double glory and are, without doubt, Ironmen.
