College Entrance Exam Results Announced- 11 people scored a perfect 75!

National College Entrance Exam results came out on February 21st and revealed that NEHS high school students beat the school record this year, with eleven students scoring perfect 75’s out of the one hundred and twenty students who took the exam. The students who scored 75’s include Ta-Pang Wang, Chen-Ning Lee, Hao-Chun Sun, Chih-Kai Chang, Hong-Qi Kuo, Jun-Yu Chen, Yan-Ting Chen, Pang-Yan Kuan, Zu-Yi Zhao, Ping-Chi Tsai, and Shih-Ching Hsueh. At the same time, fifty-four people scored above 70 (which is 44% of the total participants from NEHS), which was the best statistic in the years we have taken the test. We express our deepest gratitude to the teachers for their guidance and effort. Congratulations to the seniors, and we wish all of you the best of luck for entering your dream school!

Chairman Dr. Peter Taylor of AMC Math Competition Visits NEHS to Present Awards

The students of NEHS demonstrated excellent performance in 2010 Australia’s AMC Math Competition., executive director of the Australian Mathematics Trust Dr. Peter Taylor and Chiu Chang Math Foundation Dr. Sun Wen-Shen arrived on February 22nd to present awards to our students. Bilingual Department Brian Chen (8A) earned the highest score and received the Prize Certificate Award. Experimental High School Department students Ying Shr-Chia and Lin Boh-Ruhn both received the Certificate of High Distinction. Brian Chen (8A) and Lee Lung-Shin (H105) respectively won International Mathematics Tournament of Towns first place and third place. More awards to our students are posted in the Honorary Roll.

NEHS High School Sophomore Students Had Remarkable Performances in Essay Contest

The NEHS sophomore students participated in the 2011 Essay Contest and received remarkable results. The essay "Discussing Values of The Romance of Three Kingdoms on Online Games" presented by Su Buo-Song and Chang Quing-Yu received the first place; "Analysis of the Differences Between Western and Taiwanese Romance Literature in the End of the Twentieth Century -- from The Vampire Armand, Notes of a Desolate Man, and Crystal Boys presented by Shieh Jia-Yun and Chu Wei-Mi also received the second place. Moreover, Chang Jie-Ya (Behind the Secret Smile -- Feminism), Lee Yun-Hsuan (Ancient Chinese Male Facial Hair Style Investigation), Chen Yi and Chen Hsuan-Ning(Feet in Tears-- Should We Blame on Men?) received the awards of excellence. The NEHS website holds free-topic essay contests every March and November. Great thanks to the high school teacher Mrs. Lin An-Ying for guiding the students to participate the essay contest and receive various prizes. (More on P. 8)

Congratulations! Experimental Department Track Team Members Bring Back Brilliant Results!

On February 25th, 2011, the Hsinchu-wide Athletics Meet ended on a high note; several athletes hailing from NEHS, including ¾GµXèûfrom class H203 and ªL´P´@ from class 602, won several distinctions for their outstanding athletic performances. Placing first in the high school men’s division for both the 400m and 100m hurdle, ¾GµXèû broke the previous record for 400m hurdles by .26 seconds at 57s winning wide acclaim for his accomplishment. ªL´P´@ also performed exceptionally in her chosen categories, and won first place in 60m track and 100m track, as well as third place in 400m track. The Elementary Department girls track team, with their collective efforts, placed fourth in combined scoring (please view the Honorary Roll for more outstanding achievements.)

Fresh News: Elementary Department Broadcast Channel On Air Now

The elementary department broadcast channel, planned and produced by Mr. Chih-Ching Chu and aided by several other teachers, is currently on air to serve parents, teachers, and students. Since last April, the broadcast team has been planning news to be reported and finding suitable six-graders to be anchors. After vigorous discussion and preparations, the broadcast team finally can put the news on air. Up until now, NEHS Elementary department broadcast channel has three episodes and has reported sixteen events. In addition to the reports on the dancing competition and other school events, the broadcast channel also serves to record our school special curriculum, and to share educational materials. The broadcast channel, which focuses on news about school activities, is on the elementary department website and serves as an important element of media education.

NEHS Middle School Department Joins the After School Alternative Program

From January 21, 2011 to January 20, 2012, the Ministry of Education has instigated the After School Alternative Program, a free program sponsored by the Ministry of Education that focuses on utilizing school resources to help students with their school work and to provide counseling for them. The Office of Academic Affairs has established curriculums on two subjects, mathematics and science. We hope this program will encourage students to learn more and to create a solid foundation for their academics.

Students from NEHS at Central Taiwan Science Park Visit NEHS

On 2/17, Principal Chen Kuo-Shiang and the PTA director Dr. Shieh Fu Shun led the first class of the National Experimental High School at Central Taiwan Science Park on a visit to the Senior Department of NEHS. Mr. Chung Tian Ding from the Experimental Group of the Discipline Office was in charge of organizing the visit’s itinerary, and Class H204 served as the host for the event. The visit began with the humorous opening of Lin Ging Lun and Lee Yah Hwah, and was succeeded by the unique military song welcoming ceremony. The students of both schools displayed great creativity and enthusiasm as they shared the results of a multi-dimensional topic project, which included the use of the English Theatre to display the intricacies of the English language, and the exploration of the connection between the High Speed Rail and regional and technological innovations.
