Descriptions of Activity
Walkathon is an event at the
beginning of the year held by InterAct with the goal of raising
money and bringing schools closer together. Through collecting
sponsors on signup sheets, participants gain the ability to
fundraise for charity. On the actual day of Walkathon, schools
such as XinKe, and GuanWu come together and “walk” for a good
cause. By inviting multiple schools to our beloved NEHS/IBSH
campus as well as the lake beside our school grounds, students
of different education systems get to have friendly competitions
with one another or simply pick up everyday conversations. All
the while, achieving good in society through earning money with
every bead of sweat they lose walking the Walkathon, earning
hard money for those in need, either to children of Unicef
International, or the mentally delayed at Lux Mundi. Whichever
way it goes, the money they have earned through this bonding of
students and promotion of physical as well as mental health,
finds its way to to begin their running expedition their

Comments and Reflections,
Generally, the whole event ran
pretty smoothly, and was quite a success. However, one thing we
could really work on and improve upon is the idea of advertising
the event itself. Though Walkathon already has established for
quite a while and is well known throughout IBSH, we have learned
that talking to the student body with clarity is imperative. Due
to the rather unorganized and disorderly method of simply
telling people that there is an event called Walkathon, which
none of them really worked on conveying anything at all, we
could have used to blackboard to emphasize where permission
slips are located, use online campaigning earlier, and branch
out to the “popular” kids in each grade to persuade their peers
to join the activity, we could’ve increased the participants
from high school drastically. Announcing when the event takes
place seems to be the most principle way of advertising,
surprise. As for companies, all the companies we’ve worked with
outside of school for Walkathon, such as the wristbands, seemed
to be able to coordinate well with our schedule, which is a
clear indication that they are the right one and can be
contacted next year again!
