NEHS Conducts Professional Teachers Development
Evaluation Training
A professional teachers development workshop
was held at our school on November 29th and 30th. We invited
Tamkang University professor Ms. Shu-Xin Huang to make a speech.
Principal Huang has also had 17 years of experience as a
principal at Da-li High School and shared her knowledge in
helping teachers with their lesson plans and methods of
teaching. Teachers who attended this workshop took10 hours of
online workshop beforehand in order to understand the rules and
inner workings of professional teacher development. With
Principal Huang’s brilliant experience and humorous teaching
methods, the two day course was greatly enriching. Teachers
learned a lot from watching videos of different instructional
methods, sharing ideas, and asking questions. The teachers feel
enriched by this training experience.
Teacher Shr-Yuan Huang receives an award from
the Ministry of Education
Teacher Shr-Yuan Huang’s “Nighttime
Kites?honorably received recognition from the Ministry of
Education for being the best high school educational design
material in 2010. “Nighttime Kites?originated after teacher
Huang-Shr Yuan took numerous trips with his family to Nan-Liao,
Hsinchu to fly kites. He realized that as winter is just around
the corner, there must be a way to fly kites even as the sun
sets earlier in the evening. However, the batteries used by
typical night time kites are not only heavy, but also carry
consequences such as risks of danger. Such batteries can only
illuminate the night sky for a brief period and will also affect
the stability of the kite as a whole. Therefore, the educational
design activity created a new night time kite that used wind
power as its main source of energy, allowing the kite battery to
be fuelled solely from the wind. This new battery not only
allows the kite to fly with stability, but also allows it to
continually soar in the sky without external sources of energy.
A Creative Competition of Speed and Distance in
Water
“The Sailing Competition,?the Third Annual
Physics Creative Activity, was held in the afternoon on November
17th. After an intense competition, teams from Class 204 won the
first place in both the distance and speed categories. This
event was planned and supervised by Mr. Chen Yuen Chung, Mr. Liu
Yen Chen, and Mr. Lai Yi Fan, with the aim of cultivating team
spirit, strengthening students problem solving skills, and
enhancing students creativity. After learning about the basic
physics principles, students formed groups and signed up for the
activity. Each group unleashed their potential, combining theory
with creativity, and created outstanding final products.
Something noteworthy was that the hosts of the event provided a
bucket of Tang Yuen that was quickly devoured by the
contestants. [Reported by Tyeh Ding from NEHS]
THIMUN Singapore¡XA Great Success for IBSH
MUN-ers
The 2010 Annual THIMUN Singapore conference
was held from November 23 to November 27 at Hwa Chong
Institution. This year, more than 72 schools and 1000 students
participated in the 11 committees, with around 150 delegations.
20 students representing IBSH attended, and teachers Mrs.
Elizabeth Wyant and Mr. John Liu participated in the
International Criminal Justice (ICJ) and Approval Panel,
respectively. The theme of this year’s THIMUN conference was “Good
Governance—Striving for Transparency and Equity in
Government.?The General Assembly (GA) committees took on world
wide issues ranging from GA1’s issues on telecommunications and
transfer of arms to GA6’s issues on implementing universal
jurisdiction and the responsibility of internationally wrongful
acts. IBSH students also participated in the Economic and Social
Council (ECOSOC). After the training and experience the students
received through Hsinchu’s HSINMUN and Taichung’s TAIMUN
conferences, these students were selected to participate in
THIMUN and show their debate skills with fellow MUNers from
various countries around the world.
14 Elementary Department Students Visit IBSH
19 Experimental Department students joined
our 10th-11th class for a week in September, and the first
student exchange program between two departments was successful.
Again, 14 students from the elementary department participated
in classes with 6A and 6B during 11/17~11/19. The 6th graders
from Elementary Department introduced themselves to all the IBSH
students during the flag ceremony and then joined the classes.
It made the students from both departments to understand more
about each other and make more good friends in the three days.
¡§Elegance of Dyed and Woven Handcrafts¡¨
Exhibited in the Library
The “Elegance of Dyed and Woven Handcrafts?is
a two-week exhibition starting from December 6th in the library.
All hand-dyed cloth and handmade baskets are the elementary
teachers?creations during workshops and classes in Green Grass
Lake community college. In hand-dye workshops, the teachers
experiments with plants such as onion skin for dyes, and tying,
clipping, or sewing the cloth to create patterned cotton fabric.
During basket-weaving workshops, teachers use various techniques
to give life to the baskets’woven patterns. Everyone is
encouraged to visit this intriguing exhibition. [Reported by
Elementary Department Teacher Jen-Rhu Huang]
