Congratulations! NEHS won the Ministry of Interior’s "Green Building Honor Award"
To accommodate over 2,600 students’ educational needs, NEHS launched a series of expansion reforms in June, 2012 to offer copious study spaces and diverse subject classrooms for all students. The New Campus has been widely loved and used by the school after its ribbon cutting ceremony on September 30, 2015. The campus was also recognized for its sustainability, leading to win the honorable “Green Building Honor Award” from the Ministry of Interior on December 16th, 2017. The new campus buildings ia a permanent statement of our school’s push for environmental protection; the honor resonates with all teachers, students, and staffs’.

Inbound from Japan: Japan’s Tokyo Metropolitan Oizumi High School and SSH Visits Our School
Our school actively advocates for an international education. In recent years, it has welcomed inbound students and teachers from various areas of the world, especially Japan, to visit and establish better relationships. On November 17th, 2016, 207 people from Japan’s Tokyo Metropolitan Oizumi High School visited our school. As the student size was obviously large, students from both NEHS (classes H104 and H106) and IBSH guided them. NEHS middle school teacher Mr. Lin designed a special course on Hsinchu’s culture – including the chance to engage with Lei Cha and making kites with recyclable materials – for visiting students, simultaneously granting students the chance to interact and bond. IBSH was in charge of hosting a conference and guiding visiting Japanese students to better understand our school. Additionally, student’s from Japan’s SSH high school visited H201 from December 13th and 14th. This is the second time students from SSH visited our school to exchange scientific and humanities knowledge with our students. On their second day, H201 students hosted a competition for homemade spiral cars to let visiting students and teachers feel welcomed and better understand both the Taiwanese culture and the culture of our school.

Elementary Department International Education
Our school has been promoting a long-term international education plan, hoping to instill global vision and awareness in students beginning in elementary years. Last year in December, the elementary department promoted a global educational plan called Innovate and Transcend: Explore Vietnam’s New South Bound Policy. The dean Ms. Lai, the head Ms. Su, and Ms. Tian led a team to Vietnam twice to visit the Taipei School in Ho Chi Minh City. Before the visit, our little elementary ambassadors spent extra class time to train for the plan, learn Vietnamese, practice international etiquette, engage in pre-visit video-chatting, and design puzzles and activities. This year, they even prepared a dimension of athletic interaction through a dodgeball game to increase the students’ interaction. In addition, the elementary department welcomed visiting students from The Church of Christ in China Kei Wa Primary School in Hong Kong on December 14th. Our school’s elementary teachers, Mr. Han, Ms. Chen, Mr. Guo, and Mr. Zhu combined biology with informatics technology in their classes, allowing both schools to gain new knowledge.

Season of Appreciation: Series of appreciation events from each department
As the year ended and the bells of Christmas began to ring, each department of our school hosted events to celebrate the holiday and to show its appreciation. On December 22, the elementary department hosted a singing competition. This year, the teacher’s team, led by Principal Lee and Dean Lai, consisted of fifty elementary teachers, performed Sodagreen’s "I Wrote of You in My Song” and JJ Lin’s "You N Me,” which brought up the atmosphere and started the song competition. Following the teacher team’s astounding performance, the ten finalists groups did their best and displayed all their talents. All of the performances, whether it be of the whole class, a team, or an individual contestant, were fantastic! On the day of Christmas, the middle school department showed their appreciation for school and holiday spirit by performing joyful choral singing. Their melodies filled the hearts of students and teachers with blessings. At the same time, the Office of Student Affairs continued its fifth year tradition of giving out shoe boxes full of gifts and love to Taiwan’s elementary students in the mountains. The kindergarden department also hosted the shoe box love activity in hopes of instilling the importance of helping others in their children from a young age. In addition, the bilingual department hosted a thanksgiving feast, which the principal starting by the symbolic act of cutting the turkey and passing plates of food to the students and teachers. On December 29, the bilingual department brought a perfect closure for the Christmas celebration with the holiday spirited winter concert, which was organized by the parents and performed by the students.

Hsinchu-wide Relay: A Victory
This year, the six teams representing NEHS at the 2017 Hsinchu city-wide relay competition again brought celebratory results to the school. The team from E602, the champions of the 2016 fifth-grade NEHS-wide class relay, won first place in division B for the 1600-meter relay. As for the middle schoolers, M103, M205, and M304 each came in third for the seventh grade, eighth grade, and ninth grade divisions respectively. In high school, the bilingual department teamed up with NEHS, winning third place in the city-wide girls’ high school division and second place in the boys’ division. None of these feats would have been possible without the hard work of many teachers, for whom all the students are immensely grateful.
