The trip was still packed with fun, the rest of the week was
full of touring, bonding, understanding, and learning. We
visited various technology companies(including Intel, Google,
Apple, Portwell Tech, and Cisco), along with De Anza College,
and Stanford University. Perhaps that isn¡¦t the most memorable
parts of the trip. The most memorable is the bonding experienced
with my host family. They are one of the most friendly people
I¡¦ve ever met in my life, and the mother is one of the most
incredible person I know. Along with that they are a
unique(relatively family. Already a family of five, they still
applied to host another student.
The events that made the family most memorable is probably how
their family trips are spent. These ¡§family trips¡¨ would start
with a decent ten minutes wasted on the doorstep, where the
mother would attempt to gather everybody and get them in the
car. Upon arriving the destination, we would unconsciously split
up into two groups: those that appreciate the view and those
that want to end their suffering. Along with that, every trip
would end the same way. The oldest child, a 9th grader, would
torture the mother to stop taking the pictures and same them all
from the everlasting hell. Eventually, the father would join in
and we would happily head home.
The nights spent with the host family would be full of fun and
games, we would teach each other how to play games from our own
distinct culture. We would all fall peacefully to sleep soon
afterward with smiles on our face.
Overall, I loved this trip. The bonding, sharing, and affection
were all contributors that made this trip very exciting. Yes, it
has its downsides, but yet the journey itself is as fun as it
can be.

The trip began on October 28. It was a cool autumn night, as we
headed towards Silicon Valley, also known as Cupertino. My heart
pounded with excitement and anxiousness, but unaware that this
may be the experience that would change the perspective of my
whole life.
You can¡¦t believe that we visited America in its, Halloween
season! My host student and I made one-minute costumes and went
trick-or-treating. Some even told us that our ¡§hand-made¡¨
costumes look cool!
The most exhilarating part of this trip is that we exchange
students have the opportunity to visit some of the famous
companies and colleges in Silicon Valley. Companies like Google,
Apple, Stanford, and more. Maybe be someday I will study there.
For more information, please ¡§Google¡¨ online for yourself.
Instead of the events above, my host family and I visited famous
places like the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. We also
went to the latest Apple working area. What¡¦s more, they even
bought a mini-drone for me!
At last our trip in Cupertino was coming to an end. I promised
that I would come back and visit them again. I learned a lot
about American culture during these days. This journey not only
broadens the horizons of my international views, but also
fulfilled my dream of being an exchange student overseas. This
may be the most exciting and inspiring adventure yet!
9A¡@Jennifer Liu
During the beginning of October 2017, the school gave us the
idea of becoming an exchange student in Cupertino for a week. At
first, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go for it, doubting myself
whether I was capable of going out to the world by myself.
Although, through this trip, I couldn't be happier in taking the
chance of going to Cupertino. Starting from the very beginning,
meeting the family. From the very start of knowing I was going
to a host family, I immediately thought that it was going to be
awkward and I wouldn't be able to fit in. Therefore it was both
nerve-wracking and exciting to see what was to come, and
thankfully I was wrong. The host family was amiable and
Michelle, the host daughter, was very outgoing and didn't make
me feel out of place at all. As the days passed, I realized how
much I rely on my parents. Whether it was deciding on what to
eat, or needing help on homework, I might have even taken them
for granted. At times I was lonely, seeing my friends in school
living their lives like I did, made me miss them. Which then
comes to the topic of school. From being an IBSH-er since 1st
grade, I was curious about what education was like in America. I
do admit that I kind of thought high school there would be like
the movies. However, I was wrong, having class in America is
very gratifying, and students and faculty on campus are affable.
I had a great time making friends around the school, and we even
kept in touch till this day! Even during Halloween, I could tell
the spirit everyone held in school, also having competitions for
costumes. People went all out, wearing onesies, painting their
faces, and there was even a cotton candy machine! As sad as I
was that I could only go to Monta Vista for three days I
couldn't wait for what's more to come. The next few days the
exchange students toured around companies and colleges including
Stanford, De Anza, Apple, Google, etc. I was so excited to see
Stanford University considering my dad went there as a student
and I wanted to take a look at what the campus looked like.
Touring these places made me realize that I also wanted to do
something that will be successful in the future, whatever it was
going to be. Although what I now know is that, whenever life
gives you opportunities to expose yourself to new experiences,
cease it.
