My GYLC Experience

The first thing that struck me about GYLC was the  diversity of students. The name
is not a lie , it trulyis Global. There  are  people  from  Kenya ,  Germany , Hong Kong,
Australia ,  New  Zealand ,  England , Hungary , and   the  list  goes  on.  It  was  really
interesting  to  see  the  different o utstanding  youths from different parts of the world ,
gathered  in  one place. You are split into LGMs (Leadership Group Meetings) and you
get  to  know the people in  the  LGM  pretty well. By the end of 12  days , we were all
pretty  close.  Each  LGM  represents  one  country. For example, our LGM represented
Venezuela. There are simulations and  activities  that  you  do  with  your  LGM, which
all gear  towards  a  final " global summit " where  the  whole conference  gathers . The
global summit alone  is  worth the trip of GYLC because it is held in the United Nations
headquarters  in  New  York  City.  That place is amazing. It's huge, and we got to sit in
the same seats that  people in the UN sit in when they have their meetings and such. As
with  any  leadership  conference ,  or  any  experience for that matter, GYLC is a place
where you can make as much as you want of it. You can just sit back and relax and just
suck  in  everything  that's  going  around you.  Or  you could be more aggressive, and
make the most of it. It's up to you.  I  suggest that you go to a session that none of your
classmates or friends are going to.  Expand  your  comfort  zone and get to mingle with
different people from different parts of the world. Get  to  know your roommate. It  will
   definitely be worth it.

My NYLC Experiences

The National Young Leaders Conference provides good opportunities  for teenagers
to strengthen their speech skills, teamwork skills, and social skills. At NYLC, the leaders
of tomorrow develop abilities that will be useful  in occupations both inside and  outside
of  politics .  The  conference  is  also  an  excellent chance to meet other teenagers from
diverse  corners  of  the  U.S.  and  explore Capitol Hill.  The  workload at NYLC is very
heavy, but all in all the Conference is a very enjoyable and useful experience.
                                                                                                        By Jacob Jou, 11B

The conference was six days long related to politics. There were also trips to renown
places like the Washington Memorial, White House and the Lincoln Memorial. Tiring?
Yes. Interesting? Most of the time. Recommendable?  If you are someone interested in
politics or want to become a leader of tomorrow.                                                                                                           By Cindy Huang, 11A

National  Young  Leaders Conference was a great once  in a lifetime experience. By
spending 6 days with a couple of  strangers, I've  strengthened  my communication and
cooperation  skills.  Like many other camps, the first  few hours were hard and difficult.
However,  after I got to know everyone,  things  were  much  easier.  Strangers  became
friends  and  I  began  to enjoy it more and more  each day.  Although some of the time
spent there was bit boring, the  experience was great.
