校運會熱烈舉行

本校九十二學年度運動大會,於十一月八日 (週六) 熱鬧登場。為了合力迎接這個年度盛會,各部如往常分辦各項比賽活動。國小部舉辦校運海報比賽以及班際拔河比賽,高國中同學則加緊練習比賽項目。當天上午八時,全校學生陸續以整齊的分列式步入會場,呈現活潑的朝氣與團結競爭的精神。接著,活潑可愛的幼稚園部,表演親子體操及螃蟹舞;雙語部則以充滿活力與熱情的大會操及啦啦隊表演,為比賽項目揭開序幕。今年校運會更有管理局員工、本校家長及教職員工組隊,進行大隊接力及趣味競賽,為當天學生們優異的體育表現,增添更多快樂團結的熱鬧氣氛! (當日賽程詳見第三頁)

江滄炫博士 蟬聯本屆家長會會長

九十二學年度家長代表大會於十一月四日改選完成,選出委員  31 名,並由委員中推選常委9名。最後由懷特新藥科技公司總經理江滄炫博士,在全體委員一致推舉下,蟬聯本屆家長會長。江滄炫會長一年來,對本校的服務與貢獻備受肯定,再次感謝江會長擔下重任,為大家服務。

高溫超導磁浮創意競賽 高三學生榮獲金牌

第二屆「高中生高溫超導磁浮創意競賽」決賽,於十月二十五、二十六日兩天,在高雄市國立科學工藝博物館舉行。高國中部陳金楓老師指導高三三班五位學生王竣鋒、林奕均、洪才雲、楊筑方、游知澔,以作品「高樓火災緩降逃生裝置」,在全國共一百四十一隊初賽隊伍、二十四隊決賽隊伍激烈競爭下,脫穎而出,榮獲金牌,並獲頒三萬元獎金。「高中生高溫超導磁浮創意競賽」是由國立清華大學、成功大學、暨南大學與國立科學工藝博物館共同主辦,並由國科會及教育部擔任指導單位,不但以競賽的方式,鼓勵高中生深入瞭解探討高溫超導體特性,更提供報名的隊伍免費參加研習活動,由專家學者深入指導。恭喜參賽學生,在陳老師辛勤指導下,經過一年多的奮戰努力,收穫滿滿,為校爭光。

新竹市國語文競賽 高國中部榮獲多項獎牌

高國中部多位代表學生,於十月十七日及十八日兩天,參加在東門國小舉辦的「新竹市九十二學年度國語文競賽」勇奪高中組及國中組字音字形比賽第一名、國語演說高中組第一名及國中組第二名、閩南語演說高中組第三名、國語朗讀高中組第二名及國中組第一名等多項個別獎項,更以整體優異表現,榮獲團體總成績第三名。特此感謝張惠英、高美玲、林祺榛、李巾賢、王文秀、李文蓉、丁美芬等多位老師,除了平日辛勤教學,還花了許多心力,為學生作個別的指導,才能獲此佳績! (得獎名單詳見榮譽榜)

兒童文學編輯兼作家 郝廣才先生 蒞校演講

格林文化總編輯郝廣才先生,應新竹市文化局家庭教育中心及本校國小部之邀,於十月二十三日下午一至四時,在多功能教室演講:「從國際及國內兒童繪本,談生活中創造故事」。郝總編輯長期關注國內外兒童文學作品,尤其對於繪本有特別濃厚的喜愛及深入的研究。演講會吸引了近兩百位聽眾,專注凝神享受郝總編輯生動精采、豐富深刻的分析介紹。此演講為「快樂學習營」系列活動之一,在此邀請社區人士,踴躍參與洪蘭博士將於十一月二十五日(周二)下午一時,在同一地點,發表的演說:「激發孩子的潛能」。

中學體育活動幹部培訓 與會學生收穫豐碩

學務處於十月十八日在第一會議室,針對國高中學生,舉辦體育活動幹部培訓研討會,共有30名學生參加。前國小部主任林本源博士,專程從任職地金門前來授課,指導學生如何舉辦校園體育競賽,內容精采,盛情可感;另外施文彬主任亦以其豐富的領導經驗以及生動的口才,教授學生溝通協調技巧,最後還有交通大學張生平教授及本校教師指導足、排、籃、網四項球類競賽規則及裁判法研習,參與的學生均收穫良多,感謝不已。

雙語部學生服務社區 快樂分享英語才華

自十月份起,雙語部七到十二年級共十五位學生應邀,利用每週二早自習時間到國小部,為三、四年級共七個班級的學弟妹們讀英文故事。我們特別為這群熱心奉獻的志工同學,喝采加油,也謝謝他們為全校同學做了分享服務的最佳榜樣!

萬聖節 快樂裝扮玩遊戲

在美國校園中,十月三十一日萬聖節,常為學子們提供一個特別展現活潑創意,及充滿歡樂的舞台,成為美國文化中最受孩子們歡迎的節日。雙語部在當天不但於中午時分,在停車廣場,舉辦園遊會,由同學們辦攤位,玩遊戲、用餐點,還接著舉辦了頗受好評、令人目不暇給的裝扮大賽,連吳校長也粉墨登場,成為群魔之首。更有後續精采的Guess Who活動,腦力激盪、笑聲連連,師生、家長都玩的非常盡興。幼稚園部則於當日午後,由Kelly老師帶著孩子們,裝扮成各種鬼怪、天使或卡通人物,在教室及走廊,進行驚奇屋以及裝扮遊行等活動,不但充滿了歡樂的氣氛,也由老師、家長手中的攝影機,紀錄下珍貴、難忘的經歷! 

SCHOOL FIELD DAY HELD WITH VIGOR
This year's school-wide Field Day was held on November 8. All students practiced enthusiastically to win all the individual and group events. On Field Day, the opening ceremony began with all classes marching onto the school track, showing off their liveliness and high spirits. The kindergarten students and their parents performed the “Gymnastics and Crab Dance”. Then, the cheerleaders of the Bilingual Department performed their routine. This year, some parents, Science Park employees, and teachers organized several teams to join the relay competition and other fun activities to make our Field Day even more exciting. Congratulations to all whose hard work resulted in victory.

DR. JIANG TSUNG-SHANN REELECTED PTA PRESIDENT 
NEHS parent representatives elected new PTA Committee members on November 4. All PTA committee members reelected Dr. Jiang Tsung-shann, whose efforts and achievement are well recognized, as the new President. We'd like to give Dr. Jiang our gratitude for undertaking this responsibility for the third term. 

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WIN GOLD MEDAL IN NATIONAL COMPETITION
The final round of the second “High School Innovation Competition Using Superconductor for Magnetic Levitation” was held on October 25 and 26 at the National Science and Technology Museum in Kaohsiung. Advised by high school teacher Mr. Chen Jin-fong, five students Wang Jun-feng, Lin Yi-jun, Hong Tsai-yun, Yang Jru-fang, and You Jre-hao won the gold medal and were awarded NT$30,000 for their project, “Magnetic Elevator Device for Towers in Case of Fire.” Congratulations to all the participating students and Mr. Chen Jin-feng! 

NEHS STUDENTS BRING HOME GLORY FROM 
CITY CHINESE COMPREHENSION COMPETITION

Several NEHS students from the Junior High and High School Departments participated in the Hsinchu City Chinese Comprehension Competition, held on October 17 and 18 in the Tung-Meng Elementary School. The representatives won the gold in both the Junior High and High School groups of the Phonetics and Form category, the gold and silver in the Oration category, the bronze in the Taiwanese category, and another gold and silver in the Recitation category. Many thanks go to all the supervising teachers for their laudable efforts in giving extracurricular guidance.

RENOWNED STORYBOOK EDITOR HAO GUANG-TSAI GRACES NEHS WITH A VISIT
Mr. Hao Guang-tsai, head editor at Grim Books, visited our school on October 23. Many enthusiastic teachers and parents gathered to hear his speech on “The creation of stories from everyday life via both international and national picture books.” His speech attracted an audience of two hundred listeners, who were truly awed by his ideals.

MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETE CULTIVATION SEMINAR A SUCCESS
On October 18, the Student Affairs Office invited three speakers to lead an athlete cultivation seminar for middle school students at NEHS. Dr. Lin Ben-yuan gave a speech to 30 sports-related student club executives on how to lead school-wide competitions and events. Director Shih Wen-bing then spoke on “Communication and Negotiation.” In the afternoon, Professor Chang Shen-ping from Chiao-Tung University tied up the seminar with an interesting talk on the rules of soccer, volleyball, basketball, and tennis competitions. We thank these orators for their instruction and inspiration.

BILINGUAL DEPARTMENT STUDENTS OFFER VOLUNTARY SERVICE

Starting in October, fifteen Bilingual Department students from grades 7 through 12 read English stories to the elementary students in the Experimental Department every Tuesday during morning quiet time. We applaud these students for their exemplary act of kindness to the NEHS community.

HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL: A FUN AND EXCITING EVENT

In American schools, Halloween is known as one of the children's favorite holidays because it gives students a chance to show their creativity. On October 31, the Bilingual Department not only planned a fun filled carnival with food, games, and booths, it also held a successful costume competition. In addition, there was a very exciting Guess Who activity where many students, parents, and teachers had a great time. In the afternoon, students from the Kindergarten Department also dressed up in a variety of costumes and paraded down the hallways and classrooms. It was really fun!
